Re the photo of the "renaturalised area, Aug 2005", is that really up at Yanacocha? The exposed rock certainly does not look like the top of an old open pit and I do not remember any trees like that up there. In fact, my lasting impression was of a treeless grassland. No, it is not a neutral article and the bias is quite strongly anti-mining. There is no information about the mine or its employees. I fear that mining is like a red rag to a bull as far as eco-activists are concerned so I'm not surprised. Mafestel (talk) 17:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean is it not a neutral article? All social protests have occured as you can find out by checking the sources. If you have any positive and reliable information on the mining activities in Cajamarca you should put it on the page. You can't blame eco-activists that they put their information here, you should blame others for not putting effort and sharing the information they have to get as more balanced view. And lastly on the content of you remark: yes mining generates work, but often not for the local people of the region itself. In mining cooperation Yanacocha for example, most people working in the mines and especially those managing the mines are high skilled workers from other provinces of Peru (often from Lima) and many are also from abroad. The anti-mining and anti-Newmont tone of the article seems obvious to me. Newmont has a reputation in the business as straight-shooters and as an environmentally-responsible outfit.
