King Oak

• ... that the King Oak is said to have foretold the death of Charles Howard-Bury? Source: "As children we were told that if a branch fell from the tree a member of the Hutton-Bury family — the owners of Charleville Estate — would die. In 1963, a bolt of lightning did strike the tree and, true to legend, Colonel Charles Hutton-Bury died some weeks later" Irish Examiner (note the source has the surname wrong, the family name became Hutton-Bury only after Charles' death when estate passed to a junior line of the family, The Times has the name correct but is behind a paywall: "The Hutton-Bury family believed that if a major branch of the tree were to fall one of their family members would die, so for decades they supported its enormous limbs with wooden props. In 1963 the oak tree was struck by lightning. It survived but Colonel Charles Howard-Bury died a few weeks later")

Overall: @Dumelow:, I always look forward to your articles. Interesting and thank you. Proposed hook ok, but if superstitions are a problem for dyk, then better use ALT1 or ALT2 Whispyhistory (talk) 21:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks RileyBugz, I misinterpreted that when writing the hook. I have changed the hook to "in girth" to match the article and source. If desired "more than eight metres around" or similar could be used. Cheers - Dumelow (talk) 23:12, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
