General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I have given the article a minor copyedit, because it is simpler to just do it, rather than try to explain so many tiny issues to you. That will not affect DYK. Some issues:

  • In the 1983 attack section, please repeat the citation at the end of the intro sentence, and at the end of the blockquote. This is because the citation is offline, and the reader cannot tell where you got the speech from.
 Done Citation added.
Thank you, the quotation is now cited. Storye book (talk) 11:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Re ALT0: the source has gone offline. Can you find an alternative source?
Done I ran internet archive bot to revive make an archived version of the dead citation used, because I don't think there are anymore alternative sources for this part of the article without doing original research.
The citation for ALT0 - on this template and in the article - is offline for me in the UK. Please check and confirm that you can see it in the country where you are? If the citation is working for you, please put a quotation in the citation in the article and here, so that we can accept it. Storye book (talk) 11:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
The original citation is dead for me here in the US as well, but this archived version should work? Johnson524 (Talk!) 15:30, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Re ALT1: the source mentions the British Empire colonial activity, but it does not say that Mandera was the main prison.
Done Corrected the order of citations to clarify this information. Reference "Law" is the correct citation that provides this information, albeit not in a perfect match though, as it does not explicitly say Mandera was the main prison since it's founding, but is heavily implied. For that reason, I wouldn't use this alt if there are two others.
Citation 5 says that it was the central prison, which I understand to mean the main prison, so I have not struck out ALT1.. Storye book (talk) 11:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
I agree with that ๐Ÿ‘ Johnson524 (Talk!) 15:30, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Re ALT2: the source permits a preview of the first 20+ pages, but not of pages 57-59, so we must take this citation in good faith.
Green tickY Using the link to Google books, you should be able to preview the quote on page 58 after scrolling down. That's odd that page 58 specifically is locked for you.

So if you could please

  • (1) source the quotation and its introductory sentence, and
  • (2) find alternative sources for ALTs 0 and 1,

then all problems will be solved. (If you cannot find acceptable citations for ALTs 0 and 1, then we can accept just ALT2, in good faith.) Storye book (talk) 10:46, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

@Storye book: Thank you for taking this DYK review, I'll get to these issues later today ๐Ÿ˜ Johnson524 (Talk!) 13:34, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Johnson524. Storye book (talk) 13:43, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
@Storye book: Ok everything should be addressed, but to be sure I ran down each point individually above. If anything else is needed let me know, cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 11:06, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Johnson524 for your extra work on the article. I am still not sure about ALTs 1 and 2, though due to your explanations I have not struck them out. I'll give it a green tick just for ALT2, though, as that one is the safest. Storye book (talk) 11:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
@Storye book: Thank you for you help! I responded to your two comments above just because, but I'm very happy that ALT2 got the green light. I will say, if a picture is needed, you could use this one I placed on the right, which is a photograph of some of the prisoners freed from the same prison break being discussed. It's not the most colorful photo, but could work for if having a picture is better than not having one. Johnson524 (Talk!) 15:30, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
GTG with ALT 2 and image. Thank you, Johnson524. The image is free, and works fine as a thumbnail. I have shortened the caption. Storye book (talk) 11:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
