Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited: Yes - Offline/paywalled citation accepted in good faith
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: AGF on foreign-language sourcing. Interesting biography of a Korean folk singer, a topic which is underrepresented on Wikipedia. Hooks are sufficiently enticing. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 18:55, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

  • I think we may have a language issue here with the hook. I like the general direction of ALT0, but I'm not sure whose 60th, 70th, and 80th birthdays we are referring to in the hook – is it Wang Su-bok's birthday or Kim Jong-il's? Pinging @BorgQueen: Would you be able to take a look and help? Cielquiparle (talk) 17:18, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
Sure, give me a sec... I'm waking up lol. Coffee first. BorgQueen (talk) 17:38, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
The source says "김일성 부자로부터 총애를 받아 환갑, 칠순, 팔순 생일상을 받은 그는 2003년 86살에 사망해 애국열사릉에 묻혔다" and yes, they are talking about Wang Su-bok's birthday. I suppose it can be a little confusing for Westerners because the article is written for those who are familiar with the context and they chose simplicity over wordiness. But the context makes it reasonably clear whose birthdays those are. BorgQueen (talk) 18:13, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
Another South Korean source confirms it too. Googled her just in case. BorgQueen (talk) 18:29, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks @BorgQueen: One more Q to confirm – does it really say both Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung sent her birthday gifts...? Cielquiparle (talk) 04:30, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
The source says "김일성 부자로부터 총애를 받아... 생일상을 받은 그는..." Which literally translates to "Dearly beloved by the Kim Il-sung father and son... she was given birthday gifts..." so yes, both the father and the son are mentioned. At her 80th birthday Kim Il-sung would have been dead so the common sense dictates that it must have been his son who sent her gifts. (The source I've cited confirms that it was Kim Jong-il.)
