Daniel in the Lions' Den
Washington DC. Based on Daniel 6:1–28, it depicts the Biblical figure Daniel trapped in a den of lions by King Darius the Mede. Rubens modelled the lions on a Moroccan species, examples of which were then in the Spanish governor's menagerie in Brussels.Painting: Peter Paul Rubens
