How would one translate the term Пустынь into English? And also Подворье and Обитель for that fact and:

  • Покров - Intercession
  • Благовещение - Annunciation
  • Успение - Dormition
  • Преображение - Transfiguration - ??? Epiphany? (However, Epiphany means Theophany, 3 Kings in the Catholic tradition!
  • Распятие - Crucifixion
  • Вознесение - Acsension
  • Воскресение - Resurrection
  • Богоявление - Theophany
  • Пустынь - Eremos
  • Подворье, Обитель - cloister, monastery

Its just a note on how to title churches, because transliterating them is pointless. --

I do not think this is pointless because the Russian Orthodoxes are first and foremost worshippers of their "Third Rome" and they use their Orthodoxy for this aim only. They think they are the single real Christians on Earth. Therefore there is no need to translate their terms into English. Otherwise one should consult correspondent experts in the West.
