Eckstein was born on September 22, 1981 in Louisville, Kentucky.[1] Her father was a cast member at Disney World.[2]

In 2012, Hot Topic began carrying Her Universe products. Eckstein herself attended New York Comic Con that year to promote the brand.[3]

U.S. compete at the show for the grand prize of designing a line of clothing for Hot Topic.[5] In 2019, Cartoon Network, DreamWorks Animation, BoxLunch, and the Pop Insider co-sponsored the show.[6]

Eckstein published a book entitled It's Your Universe in 2018. Forbes described it as "a roadmap for success ... aimed predominantly at teen girls."[4] She has described the contents as "the process of achieving your dreams [broken] down into steps."[7] It details "how her personal passions led to the creation of ‘Her Universe’ and the creation of an unrivaled female fan community."[2]

According to CNBC, Her Universe is now "a multimillion-dollar fashion empire."[8]

She has sent care packages to Star Wars fans who have been victims of bullying.[4] She is also a UNICEF Kid Power Champion.[9]

Eckstein has also used the Her Universe brand to foster greater inclusion in the Star Wars fandom. She has spoken out about mental health as well.[5]

In 2020, Eckstein released her first children's book, I Am a Padawan. It is a Little Golden Book featuring Ahsoka as the main character. Eckstein revisited her favorite episodes of The Clone Wars starring Ahsoka for the inspiration to write.[11]

She praised the final episodes of The Clone Wars, released on Disney+ in 2020, as "some of the best Star Wars" content.[11]

Eckstein reprised her role as Ahsoka for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker for a short voice cameo.[11]

Eckstein also expanded into the publishing world with the Her Universe Press imprint at Permuted Press, which focuses on publishing sci-fi books written by and for women and girls, particularly young adults. Eckstein herself read each submission.[12] When the brand was acquired by Hot Topic in 2016, the imprint was discontinued;[13] however, Eckstein has said that Her Universe Press "will be coming back."[14]

Business Wire has called her "a force in creating a more inclusive environment for science fiction and fantasy fans and opening up opportunities for fangirls to express their fandom and individuality."[2]
