All the Brightness is a Canadian independent rock band based in Toronto, made up of singer/guitarist Nick Mazzei, bassist Kevin Bailey and drummer Pete Maniatis.

History

Formation and Early Recordings

The band grew out of a previous incarnation, Spokane Jupiter, which also included lead guitarist Darryl Hurs. When Spokane Jupiter came to an end in the fall of 2004, Nick, Kevin and Pete began pursuing some of their song ideas that didn't fit the Spokane Jupiter sound. These eventually lead to a 4-song demo which included the versions of "Never You", "Waiting", "One Thing" and "Come A Long Way" that would later appear on the album Lost in the Soul Deposit.

For their initial demo, the band chose to work with producer Sean Baillie at Electric Machine Studios in Toronto. Baillie had produced the Spokane Jupiter EP in 2003 and had been instrumental in urging the three members to persist in the wake of their previous band's demise. The demo received positive feedback, prompting the band to write and record six more songs to complete a full album with Baillie at the helm.

2006 saw All the Brightness take 1st place in the Rock/Alternative category of the USA Songwriting Competition with the song "Never You", which eventually helped the band secure several media placements for the song, including the feature film The Roommate, the CBS television show Shark (episode "Bar Fight"), and the Vin Diesel video game Wheelman. In the fall of 2006, the band was approached to arrange and record the theme song for reality-based television show Crash Addicts, airing on Outdoor Life Network. To cap off the year, All the Brightness received a nomination for "Best Alternative Band" at the 2006 Toronto Independent Music Awards.

In 2007, the band continued to gain recognition, placing once again in the USA Songwriting Competition, this time as finalists, with the song "Soul Deposit". Live performances continued in support of Lost in the Soul Deposit, which was re-released with updated artwork, and the band started developing new song ideas which would eventually form the basis of their second album.

Destiny Weeps (2008)

In the winter of 2007/2008, All the Brightness began recording demos for the 12 songs that would make up Destiny Weeps. Scheduling conflicts would prevent Sean Baillie from returning to production duties, which resulted in the band's decision to complete pre-production for the album on their own and eventually collaborate with Martin Bak at SLR Studios in Windsor Ontario, to co-produce, record and mix the album.

Destiny Weeps was recorded over 10 days in March of 2008 and released on August 18, 2008 at Toronto's El Mocambo. Following the album's release, the band continued to focus on local touring in Southern Ontario, while their mainstream appeal continued to be cemented with various media placements, including for the songs "Overtaken" in the NBC series Friday Night Lights, and "Next Time" in the CW series Roswell, New Mexico. The band played what would prove to be their final performance before an extened break on February 20, 2009, at Toronto's Hard Rock Cafe.

A Minor Sacrifice (2019)

After an extended break, spent raising families and exploring other interests, All the Brightness reassembled in 2016 and started working on new material. The decision was made to work at a slower pace than previously and employ an "E.P." model, whereby releases would be made up of fewer songs moving forward. In January 2018, the band joined with producer Michael Jack at Phase One Studios to record A Minor Sacrifice, a collection of 5 new songs inspired by their changing lives. Distributed exclusively to digital channels, the new release was accompanied with a successful reunion concert at Toronto's Pilot lounge on June 22, 2019.
