Howrse is a free, online game in which players breed and raise

equestrian centers. Howrse is owned by Owlient, a subsidiary of Ubisoft
.

Launch and Current Membership

Owlient was launched on April 19th, 2007. The game was an immediate success, and now the game is over 15 million members strong and is present in 12 different markets. [1]

Owlient and Ubisoft

When Howrse was first launched, Owlient was a privately owned company out of Paris, France. In 2011, Ubisoft bought the company and all of its online titles, such as Howrse, Babydow, and Fashiown. [2]

New Developments

In 2010, Owlient announced the launch of its first-ever Facebook game, called “Howrse for Friends” ( correction Horse)in which the game is similar to the original game, but when the players build their own equestrian centers, they can request help from their Facebook friends and also organize competitions between their friends. The goal is to be the best breeder or have the best equestrian center among their friends. [3]

In January of 2014, Owlient signed a contract with

Zara Phillips, the Queen of England’s granddaughter, and world renowned, Olympic silver medalist equestrian. Phillips will appear in the game as a mentor and give players tips on how to look after their horses. The words will appear in a speech bubble type format, as Phillips will be lending her name and image, not her voice to the game. It is rumored that Ubisoft is paying the Olympic equestrian a six figure sum for this. [4]
