Veronika Eyring

Veronika Eyring is a German climate scientist, whose research focuses on Earth system modeling and process-oriented model evaluation.

Eyring was initially drawn to study Physics as a result of two high school teachers.[1] She completed her diploma in Physics at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Nürnberg-Erlangen before obtaining her PhD in Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen.[2]

She acts as the Head of Earth System Model Evaluation and Analysis Department at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), as well as Professor and Chair of Climate Modelling at the University of Bremen.[3]

Eyring has contributed to the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).[4] Most recently, she acted as coordinating lead author of 'Chapter 3: Human influence on the climate system' for the Sixth report.[5]

She sits on the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project panel, which she chaired between 2014-2020.[6]

In 2021, Eyring received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, one of the most renowned German scientific prizes,[7] for her "significant contributions to the improvement of the understanding and accuracy of climate predictions thanks to process-oriented modelling and model evaluation".[2]

Helene Hewitt

Helene Theresa Hewitt (nee Banks) is a British ocean and climate scientist. She works at the Met Office Hadley Centre, where she leads the Ocean Modelling group.

Hewitt completed her undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and also participated in an oceanographic cruise as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE).[8]

In 1996, Hewitt joined the Met Office as an ocean scientist.[8] Since 2003, she has led the development of both ocean and sea ice models, as well as work on Polar Climate.[8]

Hewitt contributed to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), acting as coordinating lead author of 'Chapter 9: Ocean, cryosphere, and sea level change.'[9][10]
