History

Kampung Kuala Pari is a Malay village. Located near the city of Ipoh and between the town of Menglembu, this village is also unique because it is situated at the confluence of two famous rivers in Ipoh, namely the Sungai Kinta and the Sungai Pari[1]

Kampung Kuala Pari is nearly 100 years old, based on the date registered at the Perak State Land Office in 1937.[2]. This makes the village one of the oldest in Ipoh, alongside Kampung Paloh and Kampung Kuchai, which are located nearby.[3]

Kampung Kuala Pari is divided into three distinct sections. It begins with Kuala Pari Hulu and is separated by a small tributary.[4]. The names Kuala Pari Hulu, Kuala Pari Tengah and Kuala Pari Hilir are synonymous with the village residents, even those residing in Ipoh.

According to tales from older generations, Kampung Kuala Pari was explored by an individual known as Pak Sangkan.[5] He and his companions, including Haji Yunus and Pak Kulup Hitam, ventured to explore the land in Kuala Pari Hulu. Subsequently, Haji Yunus was appointed as the village's first chief.[6] Several years later, an increasing number of Malays began to explore the land in Kuala Pari due to the population density in Kampung Paloh and Kampung Kuchai.

Facilities

Education

  1. An educational institution was established to meet the needs of the village residents as well as the surrounding villages. Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Pari was established in 1951 as a rural school.[7].

Mosque

  1. "With the increasing population in this village, a surau was established for the purpose of worship and village management."[8]. The first surau was established in Kuala Pari Hulu. Over time, the surau became unable to accommodate the growing number of congregants from the village. The village chief at that time took the initiative to apply to the Jabatan Ugama Islam Perak to establish a mosque for the village's needs. Coincidentally, the surrounding villages did not have mosque facilities apart from Masjid Kampung Paloh at that time. After approval and allocation from the Jabatan Ugama Islam Perak, a mosque was built in Kuala Pari Tengah on September 11, 1963.[9] The stone-structured mosque was named Masjid Idrisiah, in honor of Sultan Idris Shah, who at that time was the ruler of the state of Perak[10].

Community Hall

  1. Adjacent to the hall, there are 4 food stalls along with restroom facilities to support the economic activities of the villagers. It is named Benteng Selera.[13].
