Threats

Poaching

The African Bush Elephant faces the challenge of avoiding high risk endangerment with the constant threat of

black-market trade network has left the species close to extinction.  Poachers target the elephant’s tusk for the ivory and in some cases, remove the tusk while the elephant is still alive. CITES reports the black market is believed to be the main culprit for targeting around 17,000 elephants in various areas.[1]
Currently the species has been pushed further into reaching the stage of extinction. Poaching of the elephant has dated back all the way to the years of 1970 and 1980, which was considered the largest killings in history. Unfortunately, the species is placed in harm's way, due to the limited conservation areas provided in Africa.  In most cases the killings of the African Bush Elephant have occurred near the outskirts of the protected conservations.  Areas found mostly in Central and Western Africa contains the greatest decline in the African Bush Elephants. IUCN’s statistical data concludes, the population has taken a great decline of 111,000.[2]

Predators

The

Predators target the African Bush Elephant’s newborns (calves), due to the calves being smaller in size and straying away from the herd. Over the years, certain regions in Africa
have been known to contain an abundant amount of the elephants’ carcasses. These graveyards are overwhelmed by lions and hyenas, prowling and foraging for what is left from the elephant's corpse. Human interference plays a major role in the drastic decline of the elephants’ species. Vast areas, which used to make up
commercial logging and mining have stripped apart the land, giving poachers easy access to the African Bush Elephant.[4]  As human developments continue to grow, the human population faces the trouble of coming into contact with the elephant’s more frequently, due to the species desperate search for food and water. Farmers residing in nearby areas trouble with the African Bush Elephants rummaging through their crops. In many cases the elephants are killed instantly when they disturb a village or forage upon a farmer’s crop.[5]

Conservation

Legal Protections/Status

The dramatic decline of the African Bush Elephant has resulted in various legal protections being placed in several states of

Range states
, are responsible for ensuring certain areas inhabited by the species are preserved.   The decline of the species was brought to attention worldwide in 1989. During this time officials placed a ban stating the elephants could no longer be hunted for the ivory found in their tusks. Currently, many conservation araes are limited, at least 70% of the species range resides in areas which are not protected by the law.

The purpose of these instructions are to provide any new Wikipedia writer with a clear understanding of how to go about publishing a good or featured article in the category of music biographies. Throughout the instructions there will be references from the articles Aaliyah, Eazy-E, and other well known artist, in order for the writer to have a understanding of what details should be included. These set of guidelines covers detail on organization, content, length, citations, and sources.

Organization/Content

Finding a topic in which one is interested in is important, when choosing to write an article on Wikipedia. As the writer, the goal is to provide a clear understanding of the topic and seem knowledgeable about the information. Featured articles found in the category of music biographies must contain subsections pertaining to the artist life events.  These sections may be categorized differently depending on the artist’s popularity and the amount of background information on the artist.  Typically, when writing a biography on a entertainer, the layout of the article follows as: "Early Life”, “Career”, “Personal Life”,  “Death”, and “Legacy.”

"Early Life" provides a brief summary on the entertainer's upbringing and adolescence stage. It is important to include details referencing towards the artist's birthday, family environment, education or any other aspects leading to their fame. "Career" requires a substantial amount of information about the artist signing to a record label, the artist top selling music, and their performance in the entertainer world. For example, Aaliyah's career focuses on her signing with Blackground Records and the involvement of recording artist R. Kelly producing her widely known songs such as: "One in A Million", and "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number." Note that this section may include further information about the artist activity in other aspects of entertainment such as acting, producing, writing, or televising. "Personal Life" should offer some insight on the entertainer's close relationships and family ties. Articles found as good such as Eazy-E, will include less detail due to the range of popularity. The section "Death" is incorporated into the article when the artist has passed away, if this is the case, there will be info describing the time the death took place, where, and how. "Legacy" is linked back to the artist accomplishments and influences made in society today. Further detail will define what specific achievements or awards were given to the artist for their songs and the impact it made to the music industry.

All music biography articles will include a Discography. In this section a catalog of the artist's songs will be displayed along with details on when or where the song was first written. The catalog identifies the artist's recording session and other people who may be involved with writing the song

Length

Wikipedia's guidelines on article sizesuggest the writer refrain from using excessive amounts of information in a article. All information presented in the article must connect to the topic without any discrepancies. Feature articles that pertain to larger well-known artist like Aaliyah and Tupac will include a word count of 9,000 words or more. Good articles such as Eazy-E and Lisa Lopes tend to have a word count of 2,000 to 5,000 words due to the artist having less popularity.

Citations/Sources

The incorporation of links is very valuable for writing an article on Wikipedia. Articles which are considered “featured” and “good” include at least twenty or more sources. Wikipedia states the context matters when deciding if a article contains reliable sources. For a better understanding, any information included in the article must be able to support the text. When questioning if an article is  reliable, the readers look towards the sources to see if it is deemed as credible. An article related to music biographies may include credible sources such as: Billboard magazine, Rolling Stone, Vibe magazine, and  articles from New York times. Links are presented throughout the text with citations or hyperlinks when information is being applied from that given source.
