Hi Beland. As time passed shows, this is not high on the list of my priorities. To seriously go through with that re-write I'd have to buy an external membership for my local university library and hope I can obtain the use of some relevant source works that way. This is really not important, but since you said you were a programmer, I wondered if you can explain something that is puzzling me. At the top of my own usertalk I have put a box that I pilfered from somebody else's page that is supposed to show what time-zone I'm in. But it is always an hour behind. Right now it is 14:34 here, and the box says my current time is 13:34. Under settings I have the time set to Berlin, so when I save this comment it will give the right time - it is just that one box that is getting it wrong. Where is it getting that from? Like I said, it is not important: if the box doesn't work I will just delete it again. But I like to know what is going on. Any ideas? --Doric Loon (talk) 12:36, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What you have in your source code for the time display there is from MediaWiki's "Magic words" and "Extension:ParserFunctions".
I tinkered a bit with that and found it far too complicated. So I looked elsewhere and settled for a call to template {{time}}.
This is the source code of the call I'd recommend to you: {{time|CET|timeonly=yes|hide-tz=yes}}. For the AM/PM folks you can use this one: {{time|CET|timeonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|df=dmy12}}. An example, analogous to what you currently have, would look like this:

I don't want to be overly dramatic, but mathematically my petition for protection from the German ArbCom against a false troll association has just been lost. It is possible that this account will be globally banned, shortly.
I really enjoyed my time contributing to Wikipedia as a hobby. I've learned a lot about working with sources and the workings of Wikipedia. I loved the friendly, respectful and open atmosphere towards newbies that I found here, in my time as an active editor.
Thanks again to the folks at the IRC help channel for all your patience and showing me the ropes. (This will likely not be published under the circumstances.)

Here's an answer to the question you expressed at IRC #wikipedia-en-help. The pipe symbol is used to introduce a sort key different from the name of the article. This WDR article gives a good overview of the 2009 law and its effects. Every bit of content is assigned a limited online time ("Verweildauer"). For most stuff this is one week to one year.
A few selected bits of historical interest may be kept for longer in archive sections on the stations' websites.

On this page you can find an exhaustive list of all German state radio and television station websites. The logos of the stations link to the respective websites.
It's a long list: I counted 150 logos there.
