Citration for assertion in House of Stairs
Hello,
I was wondering if you could add a citation to the assertion that House of Stairs represents a klein bottle projected in higher dimensions. That sort of statement needs authoritative support. Thank you for any help you can contribute. Argyrios 20:33, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you look at the House of Stairs, you can see that it has an inner symmetry represented by a composition of a translation down and a reflection. This is the same symmetry of the Klein Bottle. The difference is that the House of Stairs is a 3D surface, while the Klein Bottle is 2D. Albmont 00:34, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding diff.
You might want to have a look at User:Beetstra/listing1 (and 2, 3 .. etc.). We are working to do this bot/script-wise (in cooperation with User:CheMoBot). Maybe it will help. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:18, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- I was thinking of a more general bot - one that would take the chembox in other languages (mainly German, that has a lot of chembox for compounds that don't have an English chembox) and translate the non-alphabetic fields to English. In the Portuguese wikipedia, the opposite was started, but I think after the user who wrote it was banned the idea fortunately died (I don't think the left side of the boxes should be translated, only the right side). Albmont (talk) 17:56, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- One of the problems is there, how do we know the other language chemboxes are correct. We here now have contacts with some major databases, and that data is properly checked (I think it is a better database to pull data from then other wikis)? What do you think? --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:44, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose that if the data was included, it was also sourced - even it's from a textbook in Hungarian or Mandarin :-) Albmont (talk) 13:32, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Source for L's family name
The source that states that L's name is Lawliet is Death Note Volume 13: How to Read, the character guide for the series. L's section unambiguously states "L Lawliet" - it is spelled the same way in the Japanese and English versions. Death Note How to Read 13 is also available in Portuguese in Brazil: http://mangasjbc.uol.com.br/death-note-13-how-to-read/ WhisperToMe (talk) 14:26, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- The source is a book, not a website. The website explains how to purchase the book (in Portuguese). Anyway, L does not have a middle name. The full name is exactly as printed, "L Lawliet" - "L" being the given name (it apparently does not stand for anything), "Lawliet" being the family name. WhisperToMe (talk) 15:47, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- It's a pity that we don't have a glimpse of Remu's deathnote, where she wrote Watari's and L's names - I really think that, since Raito got that information, we should have it too. BTW, I think it unlikely that L's name would be just L Lawliet - Misa Amane would have a different reaction than the one she had. Albmont (talk) 19:19, 3 December 2009 (UTC)]
- No, that's his whole name. In the Viz Media English version of How to Read 13, Page 10, character file 2 says that "L Lawliet" is the true name of "L." Misa's reaction was because he said his name was Ryuga, but she could clearly see that it was "L Lawliet" WhisperToMe (talk) 23:47, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Category vs Small Category
Hi. You put the following in my talk: "Should the table in the article magma (algebra) replace Category by Small category? A category is not an algebraic structure, because it's not a set - else we can easily run into paradoxes. Albmont (talk) 12:14, 29 December 2009 (UTC)"
It seems to me this would best be handled on the talk for that page, so why not do it there? But my opinion is that while you are technically correct, headings in a table tend to be telegraphic. So I would be against changing the table. DavidHobby (talk) 17:52, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- "Talk pages are useless - nobody reads them. But the table should not have wrong data! Albmont (talk) 18:07, 29 December 2009 (UTC)"
If you make the change, that's where people will look. If you want to have the discussion, we'll have it there. The data would not be "wrong", just simplified. Which is appropriate. Or go change the table, and see if anyone cares. DavidHobby (talk) 19:37, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Kira
In the English manga and the English anime "Kira" is used. In the manga is explained that Kira is based off of the English "killer"
In regards to "but it didn't change Kira to Killer because it would innapropriate for a "cartoon" for "children" to use this violence-loaded name." - I have never heard of such a thing. I wouldn't put that in there. In English speaking countries Death Note was marketed as a property for teenagers and adults - not for young children.

I noticed you added a link to lookchem.com here. Isn't it redundant in this context, not to mention highly promotional? Aren't there standard reference sites we can use for such information? --

- I think the whole issue of simethicone, polydimethylsiloxane and silicone - some of them are taken to be synonyms, some of them are mixtures of some other with either silica gel or silicon dioxide. The sources add even more confusion than data (sounds like greek mythology, my current obsession - the more sources you get, the less reliable the article becomes, because the sources contradict each other). And the interwikis are even worse. Albmont (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2010 (UTC)]
- I came upon the silica gel CAS when I was trying to do a clean up in the Portuguese articles, and then I brought back the Chembox (the pt-chembox is almost compatible with the en-chembox, just change the name). Albmont (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
