Wikicup

Congratulations on 3 of Hearts being promoted to FA. Are you considering listing it as part of the Wikicup challenge as you can do so because you nominated it for FAC on 1 January.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:18, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't think it'll be accepted though, since you worked on it in December 2017. PS, I haven't forgotten about your All Souls FAC. My review is generally in parts and takes a few days to finish. FrB.TG (talk) 15:34, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for your message. I was just about to respond that the FAC would not count as part of the Wikicup as the Wikicup all encompasses work done this year. Almost all of the work done for the 3 of Hearts article was done last year so it would not be acceptable. And take as much time as you need for the review.

  • Thank you for the message. I interpreted that part ("If something was worked on or nominated in an early round, you may still claim points if it is recognised in a later round, but you may not claim points for articles you have not worked on during the competition.") as meaning an earlier round of the competition itself rather than prior to the start of the Wikicup. I do not think that the FAC would be applicable due to this rule (Content must have been worked on and nominated during the competition.), though feel free to ask the Wikicup judges to clarify this.

Ramandu's Daughter

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Ramandu's daughter has been completed.

In the Development and casting section this sentence appears: "Alex Brown of

Tor.com
questioned if the novel's fans would accept the changes made to Ramandu's daughter for the film adaptation, specifically citing how parts of her storyline were adapted out." I was going to change "adapted out" to "omitted" which seems clearer. When I went to check the citation, there is no mention of this in the review although parts of sentences were missing when I viewed it. As well, Tor.com accepts articles from anyone so is probably not considered a reliable source. The publisher is Macmillan, not Tor. I leave this to you to decide.

  • I have removed the part due to your suggestion.
    Aoba47 (talk) 17:23, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply
    ]

Also in this section, why is Brown cited as well as Ford after a quotation attributed to Ford in this sentence: "Paul F. Ford interpreted Lewis' decision not to name Ramandu's daughter as "an indication of the awe in which [he] wanted to surround her." [6][10]

In the Character analysis section Grace Stukenborg of the Odyssey is cited. This is a crowdsourced website where anyone can upload an "article". This would not pass FA standards for reliability, (e.g. Wikipedia is not an accepted source in academic circles either) and a "favorite moment" doesn't pass as criticism.)

In the Religious analysis section this sentence appears: "During his discussion of the film version of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, HuffPost's Carl McColman compared Caspian's return to Lilliandil to one's acceptance of God, writing that the storyline is similar to "all who fully embrace their call will find unique blessings intended for them alone."[22][32] Because I did not understand this as it was written I checked the citation. McColman is not discussing the film, the Huff Post reviewer is and quotes extensively from McColman’s work. My reading of this section is not that Caspian’s return denotes his acceptance of God but rather his acceptance of his unique calling which is decided by God. So, I have removed this section, with an edit you can revert if I am reading this all wrong. Either way, it needs rewriting because of the incorrect attribution noted above.

Another thing I noticed is citations 8, 10 and 17 reference a book but do not include a page number. Am I wrong that they should have page numbers - or are you referencing the book as a whole?

I changed the tenses on any verbs referencing the film or TV series to the present tense which is standard. There appears to be no consensus on whether the writing about an author’s view in a book or journal should be in the present tense – "Paul F. Ford interpreted Lewis' decision…" versus "Paul F. Ford interprets Lewis' decision…" Consistency is the one thing proponents on both sides agree. All the authors in this article are consistently mentioned in the past tense. It may or may not come up during an FA review.

That's it I think. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and good luck with the FA review if/when you get to it.

When you open a GA review

Aoba47, when you open a GA review, please do not change the status field in the GA nominee template on the article's talk page. When you do that by adding "onreview", you block the bot from doing so, and then it also doesn't transclude the review onto the talk page or notify the nominator that the review has been started. It's fine to edit the GA nominee template to change "onreview" (which the bot will put in the status field) to "onhold" when you put the article on hold—indeed, that's what causes the notification message of the hold to go to the nominator—but please let the bot do its work when you open the review. It runs every 20 minutes, and will know that the review page has been opened in the interim.

This may be why your reviews typically don't also generate "Pass" or "Fail" messages when they close; there's something in the review transclusion step that the bot looks for later when it's trying to figure out whether this was an actual pass or fail or just maintenance, and when it doesn't see it, it treats it as just maintenance. For a pass, that's a problem, since it doesn't automatically send the notification and update the article with the good article icon.

Please start leaving the GA nominee template alone when opening reviews in future. We'll see if this fixes the notification problems and the Pass issues. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:06, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hey Aoba, since you've worked on numerous articles about television episodes, I wanted to get your view on my draft for "

The Haunting of Amphipolis", it's the haunted house Xena episode. How does the article look? I tried basing some things from the way you wrote "Barge of the Dead". Hope you don't mind that the "Broadcast and release" section is basically a copypaste. PanagiotisZois (talk) 18:15, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply
]

  • @PanagiotisZois: I will definitely say it is on the right track. Here are some of my comments below. I hope you find them helpful:
  • For the lead, I do not think that you need to separate the last sentence into its own paragraph. Unless you are planning on adding more information, and if that is the case, then it is fine.
  • Yeah, I do plan on expanding that. But depending on how many reviews I find and what they say, I may not be able to expand it much. If that happens, I'll just connect the two paragraphs.
  • For this part (she's accompanied by her best friend), use "she is" instead of "she's" as contractions are discouraged by Wikipedia policy. Look for contractions throughout the article and replace any that you see.
  • Ugh, yeah. I'm always reminded not to do that. Even in essays.
  • This is not a comment against your writing (as I honestly believe you are better than I am), but I would suggest putting a request for this at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors once you move this into the main space as it is always helpful to have another set eyes look at it. Certain portions of the article could use some copy-editing.
  • Aww, thank you so much, you're very sweet. But trust me, considering I'm the one looking up to you example, literally, you're definately better at writing. I will request for a copy-edit once it's done.
  • For this part (features more horror-related elements than previous episodes had), you can just say "previous episode". The "had" part is not necessary.
  • Removed.
  • The third paragraph of the lead as a lot of great information, but it could use some copy-editing to make it flow better. The content is good, but just play around with the sentence structure and word choice.
  • True. I'll probably add a little info regarding filming and then make the necessary changes.
  • I have seen the show so I understand the context, but certain parts of the plot summary may be confusing to an unfamiliar reader (i.e. characters such as "Eli" and Eve's past as "Livia" could use a little more context).
  • How about: "Eli, Xena's version of Jesus". XD
  • I have received a note during the "Barge of the Dead" FAC about whether or not TrekNation is an appropriate source. I am not saying you should remove it, but I would definitely ask around about its reliability.
  • I actually thought that Green having worked for TrekNation would increase her reliability. Ugh, it's almost impossible to find reviews for this episode. And Xena episodes in general.
  • I would encourage you to find more sources to really prove the notability of the article/episode as that will be one of the first questions when you move this to the main space.
  • The more the merrier. :D
  • This is definitely on the right track. The structure is really good so far. My main pieces of advice are 1) to continue adding sources to support that the episode is notable enough for its own article and 2) when you are done adding sources, I would go back through and do a copy-edit. Good luck with this! Let me know when you are done with it, as I would love to give it a read. It definitely inspires me to work on an article on a Xena episode (Sorry, I type a lot as I am sure you can tell lol).

Something About the Night

"Hood Boy" copyedit

Hi, Aoba47,

Thank you for your review of the article Wheels of Aurelia. I appreciate your time taken in reviewing the game article. I just had a couple questions regarding the review (I have set in motion rectifying these issues for a possible future GA review), so if you would indulge me, I would appreciate it.

  • "For the publisher parameter of the infobox, you do not need to include the person’s full name and can use only the last name as it can be assumed from the developer parameter", and I'm a little bit confused. The game was published and developed by a team called Santa Ragione. The team is actually just two guy Pietro Righi Riva and Nicolò Tedeschi, which I will add to the article. What part of the infobox needs editing.
  • Thank you for the clarification. You never make it clear in the prose that this is a team. I misread "Santa Ragione" as a person.
    Aoba47 (talk) 15:39, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply
    ]
  • You also mentioned that Santa Ragione should be a red link. However, I don't feel like it is a notable topic yet. They only have three games, and this one is the only one that is notable so far. Should I still red link it? Or, should I do what I've done, and red link it in the text, and not in the infobox?
  • I have been given the note in the past that MobyGames as been deemed unreliable. If you look at Dragon Quest for instance, it was passed as a GA in 2007, before MobyGames was probably deemed unreliable.
    Aoba47 (talk) 15:39, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply

Thank you for your feedback once again. I have put the article into the copyeditor guild queue, and will wait for them before I make any more GA attempts. I have written quite a few articles, but never to the GA level, so I appreciate the response.

Also, if you are interested in the game, I'd recommend the iOS version, as it's by far the best experience if you have an apple mobile device. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:53, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A year later, there was a glorified stub (9 lines of text) on the airline WestJet Encore that I expanded more than 5x to get a DYK (Did You Know) that got over 5,000 views. That prompted me to recently try for FAC. I have never written a FAC. If you have any suggestions or want to review it, by all means, do so or offer hints. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/WestJet_Encore/archive1 Vanguard10 (talk) 03:14, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the message. I will definitely review it in the future. I will try to get to it by the end of the week if that is okay with you.

No worries, no hurry. Being a FAC newbie, I am a little scared. A little hand holding will do. If I become experienced in FACs, then I will be ready for a lion of a critic. Vanguard10 (talk) 03:26, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am glad that I can help with it. Good luck with it!

  • Thank you! I enjoy working on obscure acts and albums. I find it to do all of the research and hopefully draw some people's attention to past artists and their work. Hope you are having a great week so far!

Thank you

Thank you so much for your incredibly through GA review of "Rx (Medicate)" as well as your patience throughout the process. And of course, much appreciation for passing the article. Hope we can work again in the future. — Miss Sarita 02:57, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
