Seattle Kraken and previous user trouble

Thanks to you...I have started to stand my ground against the user that was frustrated with me earlier this month. I think hearing from you that it was not right for them to get mad at me and bully me was really helpful. Today for the first time I edited the Seattle Kraken game log and he/she did not get mad at me after the fact. If they get mad at me in the future over something, is it okay if I ping you in the conversations? I have a second question for you. I know this sounds silly but what looks better when you look at a team record on a game log one with a space in between the home record and the ; (see October) or like this (see October). Thanks. ) 09:21, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
I have commented on this matter on a previous discussion over at my talk page. I sent a notification within my response, but I haven't gotten a response from the editor at this time. Yowashi (talk) 03:29, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

@Yowashi:, @Bagumba: It was my mistake about the whole whitespace stuff. That was not the smartest of decisions on my part and I won't fiddle with that again. As far as the disputes go, the reason that I haven't been responding a whole lot is cause I am scared that if I do that my response will some how manage to get people more frustrated with me than they already are. I also felt like it was necessary to bring an admin in because I feel like this matter needed a third party. And Bagumba is someone that I feel like I can trust. I realized that I have made my share of mistakes on this site in the past. I am trying very hard to learn from all of them. I will be more than willing to forgive and move on from this if everyone else involved is willing to forgive me for the mistakes that I made in the last few months. Last point, I did not see any notifications from Yowashi and so I did not know there was something waiting for me to respond to. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 06:48, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

@
WP:DROPTHESTICK, there should generally not be a reason to be "scared".—Bagumba (talk
) 07:38, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

I think my fears in all this have to do mainly with Yowashi seeming to have these unresolved feelings of frustration/anger towards me and my extraneous edits problem that I had a few months ago. And there will be fear I feel if I were to deal with them one on one. I just feel like I may accidentally write the wrong thing in trying to resolve this matter and that I may make this situation worse than it already is. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 07:48, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

@GoWarriors151718 and Yowashi: I don't mind mediating if you two want me involved. For the record, I don't see anything serious so far, and I'd like to think it's, at worst, a misunderstanding. It's fine if you want to

  1. Ignore my offer
  2. Take it offline among yourselves

If you want my help and you have suggestion for improvement for the other, please provide examples with

diffs and an explantion of your concern. Regards.—Bagumba (talk
) 07:30, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

This next post's main purpose is to put these things on the record. Instance #1 Sockpuppetry claim. I understand his logic behind this but it definitely left a negative taste in my mouth that I should steer clear of them. Instance #2 Edit amounts. I understand that I made a lot of unnecessary edits back during the end of the last NHL season (2020-21) on the Sharks season page but that was around the same time that I was still new and was still learning about how to be a true Wikipedia editor. I learned through experiences on how to get better and I improved. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 07:48, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

@GoWarriors151718: Yowashi seems to have subsequently proposed a resolution to you on their talk page.—Bagumba (talk) 02:03, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

DYK for NBA anniversary teams

On 20 November 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article NBA anniversary teams, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that only four NBA players have been named to all four of the league's anniversary teams? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/NBA anniversary teams. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, NBA anniversary teams), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

NBA Rookie of the Month Awards in 2021

Hello, I just wanted to ask for assistance in this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Rookie_of_the_Month_Award#2001%E2%80%93present

I was trying to add the new Rookie of the Month Awards for November 2021, but I could not seem to get the format correct with regard to the season showing first before the month in the table. I followed the same coding format as the previous seasons but it still shows up wrong. Could I ask for your kind assistance on this?

Advice?

Hello Bagumba! I'm sorry to bother you on your talk page... I just wanted to get your advice on a user that we've both interacted with. He seems to be reverting several edits on articles and nothing them as vandalism, when they clearly are just bold edits. He left me a message on my talk page, and I have the interaction here [1]. I wanted to come to you because you've brought

WP:NOTVAND to his attention in the past, [2] and I wanted to turn to an experienced user/admin for some help, just making sure I didn't say/type anything through the interaction in poor faith. The other user seems to have a COI as it relates to University of Louisiana at Lafayette, but notwithstanding, I just want to make sure he doesn't continue marking bold edits as vandalism. I would appreciate any help or guidance to make sure I'm not overstepping or not being civil. Thank you for your help! Spf121188 (talk

Cal Basketball 2021-22 page

I was wondering if you could please help me out so that I can remove the additional citations alert on the top of the 2021-22 California Golden Bears men's basketball team page. Basically what in that article needs sourcing? And going back to that Las Vegas/Paradise thing that I brought up a few weeks ago...Thanks for your input. As you probably guessed, I just let it be. Sorry for the late acknowledgment of your response. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 23:12, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

@GoWarriors151718: For the Cal page, the tag generally is applied when there are concerns regarding the Wikipedia:Verifiability policy. Do you have questions on the policy itself, or do you believe that the tag is not relevant to the page? If you still have doubts, you could find out when the tag was applied. Perhaps it was relevant at the time it was added (here), but it is no longer the case. If you are still unsure, you could also discuss with the editor who added it. Let me know if you have further questions.—Bagumba (talk) 23:25, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
After reading your comments, I think my question is with the relevancy of the tag. After looking at the article again, perhaps it was just a time thing meaning it was relevant at one point but not now. I don't want to remove the tag now just for someone else to come in and put it right back in the same place. So I guess that I was asking you if removing the tag will be a good move on my part. There is a redirect of BdotAdot to Brandon Armstrong. The problem is, that Brandon Armstrong (born 1980) is not the right person and is therefore misleading. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

DYK for Bruce Davis (offensive tackle)

On 14 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bruce Davis (offensive tackle), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Bruce Davis and his son, who both played for UCLA in college and professionally for the Raiders, are one of the few father–son duos to have played on teams that reached the Super Bowl? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bruce Davis (offensive tackle). Chuck Nevitt

Regarding Chuck Nevitt, according to his stats he only played 9 seasons in the NBA during his 12-year pro career. He was resigned by the Rockets before the 1983-84 season and according to Basketball-Reference was waived on November 29, 1983, after not playing any games about 14 games into the season. Not sure if that season should count, unless he was actually an unused substitue in some of those games, then we could say he spent 10 seasons in the NBA. He then did split the 1985-86 season with the Lakers and Pistons. Alvaldi (talk) 08:53, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

@Alvaldi: You're right. I fixed it. I probably counted 1985–86 twice from stats tables because he played for two teams that year. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 09:16, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

hatnote

Hi Bagumba, thanks for helping with the Siti articles. I just wanted to ask you about the removal of the hatnote ([7]). I put it there to signpost to the reader that people may have that name through an entirely different origin. I think that otherwise the reader may think that there aren't any others. Do you think that's a problem? If not then don't worry, and if yes, then what's the best way to avoid it, other than a hatnote? Dr. Vogel (talk) 13:31, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

@
WP:NAMB, as the title is not ambiguous with the (given name) disambiguator. Anyone looking for a different topic presumably wouldn't have landed at the article. That said, I notice that Siti still has some people with the given name listed there (or at least their title starts with "Siti"). Is there a particular reason for that?—Bagumba (talk
) 14:58, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, those are the people who have that name, but it doesn't have a Malay origin. Dr. Vogel (talk) 15:28, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
@
WP:APO can offer some guidance.—Bagumba (talk
) 19:04, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
Yes, the point you make is also true, so I'm in 2 minds about this. Initially my idea was to make Siti (given name) about the Malay name, with proper sources etc. But of course the point you make is also valid, and it could be simply a list of people with that name, regardless or origin, and without sources, and if we do that then we'd move over the few remaining people from the dab page. Edit warring and adding insignificant NBA G League showcase team honor at Paris Bass. Also just plain being rude. Could probably use someone uninvolved to help him understand how to work within and towards consensus. Rikster2 (talk) 19:29, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

You can expedite things with an appropriate edit warring warning. I also left an AGF warning.—Bagumba (talk) 00:39, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:NBAhighlights

Are you able to list if a player led the NBA in three-point percentage during a certain year? Mandomanny313 (talk) 03:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

@Mandomanny313: No, it's not on that list. It can be added to a bio's prose, if it's not already there.—Bagumba (talk) 03:22, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

LaMelo Ball's All-Star status

So this video was put on the NBA website, and it shows LaMelo Ball as being a 1x All-Star. Keep in mind, this is the official NBA website, and this video was put out there by NBA front office. https://watch.nba.com/video/lamelo-ball-2021-22-highlights Could I add Ball's status to his page? Or should I wait? Mandomanny313 (talk) 20:36, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Tom Brady records sources

Most of the records in question follow a 1 + 1 rule, as he owns most of the records in question for both regular season and post season individually. So by virtue of owning both, it is mathematically impossible to not own a combined record.

Most of those sources can be found in both the regular season record or post season record sections. I am not well versed in adding sources correctly, which is why I limit my edits to updating posted statistics, but I can provide links to several of them, and the numbers are backed through https://www.pro-football-reference.com/

Additional links to these pages help provide documentation for several of the records.

Well they are far from original ideas or thoughts, and as I mentioned, many of them are sourced in the other sections or links already listed, so I can't agree it would be at all considered WP OR. But here are a couple more sources to get your request started. Hopefully that makes other peoples burdens a little lighter in getting the sources assembled.

@FrostCzar: Feel free to discuss with everyone back at the article talk. Something like sacks is not just "1+1", when he's #2 in regular season https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_sacked_career.htmBagumba (talk) 10:40, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

@FrostCzar: I generally stay clear of SBNation for reliability (notable exceptions like The Ringer), mostly amateurish fan blogs. WP:NFL might differ from me.—Bagumba (talk) 10:55, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

I won't argue with your point on SBNation, but can we at least agree to update the numbers to factually correct numbers to help prevent people from creating and posting future blogs and articles that will include incorrect information based on old numbers by lazy writers coming to wiki? That was my main goal in attempting to make the original edit. Updating the sources and talking to the source material can certainly be something worth talking about in the talk page if it must be, but at least have the correct statistics up in the meantime to prevent misinformation, would be helpful. NSPORTS RFC

I just wanted to ask how you became aware of this RFC? BilledMammal (talk) 05:07, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

@BilledMammal: Hi there. Seems a bit out of the blue. While everyone's edit history is public, perhaps you could begin by offering an introduction on your history with NSPORTS? Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 05:25, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
I'm not certain what you mean by history, but my general position on it is that it doesn't reliably reflect
WP:GNG, and I believe it unintentionally furthers systematic bias. I realize the question is a bit out of the blue, but I am hoping you can answer it. BilledMammal (talk

@
WP:NSPORTS#Q6: "I want to create a new sports-specific notability guideline or revise an existing one. What approach should I take?" The intent there is not for NSPORTS to be a free-for-all, but a few popular sports seem to have had their loose guidelines grandfathered in. See also Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(sports)#2021_in_review, for examples of sufficient oversight on new proposals.—Bagumba (talk
) 07:08, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
I believe it actually defers to ) 07:35, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
@BilledMammal: The original intent was not for "meets NSPORTS" to be valid in perpetuity, but it was not intented for "fails GNG" to be commonplace in the 1st AfD nom, either. I'd always hoped that individual sport projects would eventually patrol their own, but my optimism is waning. I would support delisting some specific sports, NFOOTY, being one.—Bagumba (talk) 07:44, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Could you explain what you mean by but it was not intented for "fails GNG" to be commonplace in the 1st AfD nom? For many articles, the only reason to bring them to AFD is for failing GNG? Other criteria can apply, such as
WP:PRIMARY where the article is entirely sourced to databases, though even that depends on your definition of primary source, but those are exceptions. BilledMammal (talk
) 07:52, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
@
WP:FAILN was followed, and sufficient time has passed making it likely this topic is not notable, an AfD nomintated with "fails GNG" is reasonable.—Bagumba (talk
) 08:22, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
I see what you are saying; thank you for clarifying, and I fully agree. It should be very rare for an article that passes an SNG to fail GNG when an in depth search is conducted. BilledMammal (talk) 23:20, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
