  WP:Lead
  articles < 15,000 characters should be 1-2 paragraphs.
  • 1. Context - see Template:Biography - covered in article BTW very well
  • 2. Characterization - appearance, age, gender, educational level, vocation or occupation, financial status, marital status, social status, cultural background, hobbies, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ambitions, motivations, personality, what the biography refers to as used in the given context.
  • 3. Explanation - deeper meaning and background.
  • 4. Compare and contrast - how it relates to other topics, if appropriate.
  • 5. Criticism - include criticism if there has been significant, notable criticism. Need to compare to other footballers, if appropriate.
    • • If the article was to become a feature article or an article chosen for a portal - only the lead would be used - does it induce the reader to desire to know what the article is about and seek further information?

- I'm not sure what issue (if there is one with the links) is apparent, but please do kindly point out any suggestions. This is an automatic javascript program that looks at format issues according to wiki guidelines on the referenced pages. You have an amazing amount of citations compared to a number of articles I have seen. This auto peer reviewer sees that perhaps the same reference is used in close proximity to itself as per the wiki referenced pages...

- No available images of use as of now. -Fair enough - these are hard to come by sometimes.

Just letting you know, seeing as you implemented it, that for the time being I've removed the footnote {{{repstatsend}}} because it was appearing on every infobox even though most of the time it wasn't applicable. Do you know of a way to make it optional?

Job well done mate, in shaping the infobox, it's now a much more sensible size. For some reason however the 'place of birth' heading now appears, whereas in the past if it were blank, like the 'position' option, then it wouldn't come up on the infobox. As we don't know the birth places of most footy players, or at least those from the VFL era, would it be possible to make that bit optional again. Great to see your still around to help as you've done great guns on the article so far. AFL article in the main are really very poor and it would be great to have a FA. A couple Peer Reviews will be needed first, although it's a very solid art with a good amount of refs. Not sure about the claim that he is the "second-youngest player in VFL/AFL history to win a premiership" at 19. That honour is held by Brian Leahy, with Murray Weideman the youngest. There have been three other 17 years olds who have played in a premiership team - Cameron Clayton, Allan Davis and Charlie Payne as well as numerous 18 year olds. All these though seem to be pre 1990 so perhaps the Geelong Advertiser article only took into account the AFL era? Jevansen (talk) 10:52, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This may be a better reference to use. Dustin Fletcher and Joe Misiti were 18 year olds in the 1993 premiership team, so even if the journalist was meaning the AFL era it would still be inaccurate. Ablett was chosen in VFL (not All Australian) Team of the Year - 1984, 1985, 1989.

Boomtish, I appreciate your sentiments and good faith. Before seeing this message [2] I had already added the stats section back in, on reflection is adds to the article a lot. I see you are working on this article, was wondering about the "missing years" between port and captain. But regarding the intro - and all respect to the FA selwood - can I suggest Roger Federer as a better example. It is brief and a good intro rather than summary. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section.
