Hi, Dhtwiki, I noticed your edit, in your opinion, are there too many images in the article? Lotje (talk) 14:22, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

@Lotje:I don't know if there are too many, but that wasn't the reason for my edit (if that was what you thought). I see that you just added a series of 4 pictures at the bottom (which would look better left-justified, BTW). Are they particularly illustrative of his work? Are there enough explanatory captions and text to go with them? Dhtwiki (talk) 19:26, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
@Dhtwiki:, regarding the 4 pictures I added at the bottom: French art critic Louis Viardot states these are of the same series of 5 paintings of fools (les momomanes) created between 1819-18211. (Insane Woman). Étienne-Jean Georget commissioned Théodore Géricault to paint a series of portraits so that his students could study the facial traits of "monomaniacs" (les momomanes), as he preferred using such images to having patients in the classroom. Between 1821 and 1824, Géricault created ten paintings of which 5 would have survived. They include those of a kidnapper (le Vol d’enfants) in the (Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, Massachusetts of which I do not find an image on commons right now. Hopefully this answers your question. Lotje (talk) 10:36, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Dhtwiki, happy to let you know I just found the file I was looking for and added it to the article. Lotje (talk) 13:58, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
@Lotje:I think you have the entire series now. I've just left-aligned the lower gallery, as I think it looks better aligned with the gallery above. Your gallery title ("Les Monomanes") doesn't exactly relate to "portraits of the insane" in the article text; and your left hand picture caption, "Woman Suffering from Obsessive Envy", doesn't relate exactly to "Insane Woman" in the text, although the caption does link to that picture's Wikipedia article. I think those textual relationships could be improved. Dhtwiki (talk) 09:11, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
The thing is, imo, the name of the article
Insane Woman is not exactly what the French artist meant: La Monomane de l'envie literally means: the The Monomaniac of envy. Lotje (talk
) 09:19, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
I understand that, but I think it would be helpful to somehow clarify that the picture is what is referred to in the text. Even a French speaker wouldn't necessarily realize that at first. Dhtwiki (talk) 09:25, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Would 'Woman Suffering from Obsessive Envy (as it is in the Envy article be acceptable you think? Lotje (talk) 09:57, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
You could keep the title you have but add something like "(Insane Woman)", or, better, put the English title first, with the French in parenthesis, as this is English Wikipedia. I'd also add "Portraits of the Insane" to your gallery title similarly, especially as that is how the Metropolitan Museum of Art also knows them (from their monograph Gericault's Heroic Landscapes: The Times of Day). Dhtwiki (talk) 10:13, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

hey, you reverted back my edits on the Jonathan Thulin Page...and I am Jonathan Thulin i was updating some dated information and worked on for like 2 hours. I should have looked at the revision history page. You seem to have written the article yourself. For one thing, you didn't leave any explanation of what you were doing in the edit summaries. However, what you added isn't verifiable (see
WP:OR) (and you removed some of the "Citation needed" templates that others must have put up to point out the lack of verifiability). I think any further edits need to be made with an eye to the policies I linked to. Dhtwiki (talk

NaMo18

You noted and gave a warning on NaMo18's talk page about prior inappropriate posts. Did you note this one as well? There's an indifference to warnings and blocks because there are so many sockpuppets available for use. I think the first one I noticed was

ObRoy as here and Shilkanni. Worth watching but I don't know what can be done to prevent abuse that stretches back 10 years -- so far?. FactStraight (talk
) 14:18, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

If people don't put the warning templates on talk pages the administrators won't do anything, which is why I do it. However a mechanically scolding chore it is, you've got to do it or give up the right to complain. I didn't place a template when I first reverted NaMo18, because the picture of a unicorn hart on his talk page for some reason made me think he was in earnest. As far as sockpuppets, I can't speak to that. Wikipedia takes that seriously (as I believe you know). If you have real grounds for such an accusation, they would likely investigate. Dhtwiki (talk) 16:06, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh, isn't it once again the guy with Wikipedia's most ironic nickname. Without any deeper investigation and without any attempts to test the pro et contra of your conclusions, you automatically assume that every single user who, over a span of ten years, happens to appear in an article related to royalty or nobility and who, there, adds something that, with an obsessive preconception, might be interpreted as racism, e.g. 'Another story (myth or like) of a black child born to European royals is that of a black daughter of Louis XIV and Maria Theresa of Spain' (as you are referring to above), is the same person. You must have a weak grip on reality if you see the same person everywhere you walk and stand during a decade. If this so-called 'amateur genealogist/historian' actually exists (contrary to being a fantasy foetus of yours), you have found your monomaniac twin brother.
Why on Earth would I spend ten years on Wikipedia, and under several nicknames, adding this type of anecdotes to royal biographies? And why would I travel to Finland to edit Wikipedia via a Finnish IP address? I've had (and still have) only one account: this one, whose name I've changed three times, I think. And soon four.

RE: AMBROSE BIERCE

Hello Dhtwiki, My apology to you if I have reversed any of your valid edits. The vandalism on the Bierce page was so extensive and spread over so many entries that some good changes may have been swept out inadvertently during the cleanup. I know you are not the culprit. I will be going over the edits again today, and I will try to make sure any good info is kept in. Perhaps you could assist if you are able. My problem was in the removal of the "bathwater" and "cest" and the other crap that this dirty tweaker had put into the article. Thanks in advance for your understanding and your help for our friend Ambrose. SamJohn2013 (talk) 13:33, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@SamJohn2013: I've looked through your edits at Ambrose Bierce. I was able to re-revert the July 2014 edit of mine. My other, November 2014, edit you reverted was undoing an edit you yourself then reverted two edits later. The rest of your edits look very much on-target for getting rid of some of the hilarity that has ensued, but not yet been caught. I am at a loss, however, to explain how you mistook my edits as such, especially given my verbose edit summaries. Dhtwiki (talk) 13:13, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Again, a mea culpa. I was so horrified and upset at what I saw there that I moved angrily and with a heavy hand. I will in future be more careful to avoid collateral damage, now that I know there is a great difference between copy editing and graffiti scrubbing. SamJohn2013 (talk) 13:55, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Pic

Well, You know I understand your reasoning of course, about well known pictures. But I also think that sometimes Wikipedia should be a bit challenging too. It should be like 80 % of the wel known but still 20% that is fairly unknown.. So it could leave a bit to discover to people, so they can say after they looked, oh, wow, that one, I never knew it existed, how interesting. Also it is the Royal Family's collection, so I thought it would be nice to have someting depicting them as well, not only Pythagoras urging people to eat veggies, (but not beans, of course, wonder why...) Anyway, if Her Majesty thought it was a good enough picture of Her to be placed in this prestigious gallery ... so why not go with it - She thought after all it was fine. What do you think? Hafspajen (talk) 16:01, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

@Hafspajen:I questioned the prominence of the picture, for one thing. You made it the second image on the page, I think. If you had wanted to introduce it farther down, I would have objected less. If you had created a separate section for royal portraits and placed it there, even less. As I said in the edit summary, you placed it next to text that told of the wide-ranging nature of the collection, displacing images I though more suitable. Royal portraits are to be expected in such a collecton, old masters and da Vinci drawings maybe less so. I think there's a place for that portrait, but not where you decided to put it. Dhtwiki (talk) 18:02, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Sure, I can be convinced to put it somewhere else. Why don't you add it back somewhere you think it is a god idea to have it?

Indraneil Sengupta

Hi there, with regard to this edit summary, "reality TV series (not film) just reverted seems to be legit (Indraneil's name on roster at linked article)" it sounds as if you are considering Wikipedia it's own source. As you know, Wikipedia is user-contributed and prone to errors. The fact that the guy's name appears in another article doesn't mean at all that the content is legit. That said, I've done a little research and I think there's sufficient information out there to suggest the guy is in that reality show, so I won't be making any reversions. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:31, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Could you please check your english grammar

  • after the verb to be you must add an article before a noun
  • "software" is a noun

so...

  • "is software" is incorrect
  • "is a software" is right
Is it right?
Please check... and correct — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jfayel (talkcontribs) 22:29, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
@Jfayel: "Software" is a collective noun, adapted from "hardware". As a native speaker of English, "...is a software" grates very badly on my ear. "...is a piece of software" seems to be similar usage, but here the "a piece" makes it concrete. Check online, an English dictionary with quotations, or a book in English, to confirm what I've said. WP:INDICSCRIPT, in my edit summary. The inclusion of Indic scripts in the lead paragraph is highly discouraged, if not forbidden, as it doesn't add much to an English encyclopedia, as well as being prone to edit warring or vandalism that can't be easily detected by those not well-versed in such scripts. Denver - 2014 Estimate

Hi, you reverted in Denver on Wikipedia. click to 2014 Estimate. It is 663,862 population in Denver in July 1, 2014 Estimate. Thank you. --Rossdegenstein (talk) 17:43, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

@Rossdegenstein:I see your new estimate. Good. Is that what was linked to from the source given in the citation? I may have linked to an old table, because I linked from the source that was there. Did you change the estimate without changing the citation? Dhtwiki (talk) 18:36, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
It looks like the QuickFacts page has been updated [1]. The QuickFacts pages are usually updated a few days or weeks after the estimate are officially released. kennethaw88talk 00:06, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
@Kennethaw88:I had been trying to get through to the Census website myself, but couldn't after getting through initially. I was just now able to see your link, which is different from the table I had been looking at. The quarrel I had was that the citation for the source had not been changed when the estimate was. I assume this new number, if properly sourced, will be okay with other interested editors; but I can't, of course, speak for them. Dhtwiki (talk) 03:13, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Bihar Article (Languages)

Hi

You have reverted my edits on Bihar page related to languages,

1) In Bihar many languages are spoken, of which Bhojpuri is the most common. - > This is a original research and not supported by reference.

2) Hindi—the co-official national language, with English—and Urdu are constitutionally recognized languages of the state. - > Your reference http://www.diehardindian.com/demogrph/moredemo/histlang.htm doesn't exists.

3) Urdu—which is the mother tongue of Muslims, who form about 17% of the state's population—is very much secondary to Hindi in official use, although nearly 25% people in Bihar read and write Urdu. - > This is also original research not supported by reference. Urdu is not the mother tongue of Bihari muslims.

Kindly discuss here -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bihar#Languages , so that we can present correct information.

Charles Louis Müller

Allright, the old structure just seemed unnecessarily complicated to me. While you're about it, is there any way you could double check the authorship of that Queen Victoria image? It seems much too static to be one of Müller's. WQUlrich (talk) 18:17, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

@WQUlrich: As far as my gallery structure being complex, that was probably why I wanted to keep it, since I had spent time mastering it; but it also seemed to classify and structure information better. Besides, you had not only removed the structure, but the pictures that were a part of it. The first, the "Call Out" (and it took some doing to get the translation right) has been considered his masterpiece, even though it wasn't the clearest image. The second, the Denon ceiling, needs to be zoomed to appreciate, but it gives an idea of his monumental style, as well as some clue to the authenticity of the picture you question, because I see the same placating gesture in the man before Napoleon I as I see in Queen Victoria's posture. Dhtwiki (talk) 22:45, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
Sorry...I guess I just have a natural aversion to photographs of paintings that have "extraneous" elements like frames, walls etc. I've never used any like that myself. I do see your point about the gesture, but the work is atypical. No serious criticism intended... although I am more accustomed to editing pieces that have been long abandoned by their originators! :) WQUlrich (talk) 22:56, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Should be there somewhere

'"Reverted good faith edits by Geoffrey.landis: "Links should not be placed in the boldface reiteration of the title in the opening sentence of a lead." (see WP:LINKSTYLE). (TW))"

OK. Neverthess, in an article on the moons of Jupiter, there should be a link to Jupiter (the planet) somewhere in the article. If you don't like it where I put it, which was the first mention of Jupiter, put it somewhere else. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 19:55, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

@Geoffrey.landis: I noted that "Jovian", in the lead, was linked to the Jupiter article. Not too obvious, and others might disagree with my stance. If you wanted, you could start a Talk discussion on putting in a link in a more obvious way (is it in the infobox?), or change the text somehow. Dhtwiki (talk) 22:27, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Correct, that is not obvious. "Invisible" would be a better term. "Jovian" logically shouldn't redirect to "Jupiter", since there is a wikipedia article
Jovian System... which is a redirect back to the Moons of Jupiter
article.
I will argue that a wiki link on Jovian, even if it directs to Jupiter, is not the same as a wiki link on Jupiter. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 03:42, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
@Geoffrey.landis: I see that you have linked to Jupiter in the second paragraph, which is rather late in the article (which has no infobox, I now see), and you're linking an "s-possessive", which the software doesn't display as seamlessly as, say, plurals. What I would do is change the second sentence from "This gives it..." to "This gives Jupiter...", which I don't think too repetitious, and link there. Dhtwiki (talk) 07:49, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
May I suggest you just put the link in where you like it in a way you think is correct? I suggest only two things: (1) "Jupiter" (the planet) should be linked in an article about Jupiter (the planet) 's moons. (2) The link should be on Jupiter, not on some other word like Jovian or Jovial or for that matter any word other than Jupiter. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 17:54, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
Already done. But I wanted to give you a chance to implement or amend or protest or whatever, since the idea to have better linking, which I essentially agree with, was yours. Dhtwiki (talk) 18:07, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello user, thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Your recent partial-revert on Jalna, Maharashtra [2] was quite unconstructive. First of all thanks for reverting "partially" and not reverting "fully". But you deleted section name "Tourism", all tourist places can be added under one section "Tourism" instead of making different sections. You restored references at top of the section. Jalna, Maharashtra#Nearby Hindu temples and shrines. We attach references at the end of the sentence, not at top of the section. Hope you will do some copy-edit to article. Thank you. --Human3015 (talk) 00:46, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

@Human3015: I don't think that all religious sites need to be listed under the one super heading of Tourism, especially when you merely boldface the next lower subheadings, which left them barely visible, rather than placing all dependent subheadings at lower levels. I doubt that religious worshippers think that their buildings exist just to be gawked at by tourists. You also removed, rather than adjusted, those references that you found troublesome. That wasn't the solution. They refer to the section at large, but they do look out of place, especially under the main article link now there. I probably will do something about them. @
Mukhaiyar:You're making too many questionable edits that require more explanation and references than you are giving. I just undid the addition of Urdu as a language of Jalna, because you gave neither explanation or source. I also think that I should revert the addition of the Urdu-Persian script to the native name of Latur section. Why should Urdu be included, when other scripts, perhaps equally appropriate, aren't? I won't add any more warning templates on your talk page for now, you seem to have enough already and are on the verge of being blocked, it seems. Dhtwiki (talk

Operating systems

You reverted my edit on OSs with an edit summary that seemed to have no relevance at all. My edit was simply to restore a capital letter to the beginning of a sentence where an anon vandal had made it lower case and what all this stuff about vague classifications was I could not imagine.

Now, looking back on it afterwards I suspect you probably meant to remove Cesarth~enwiki's edit [[3]]. Although I think I agree with what I think you think ;-), I haven't tried to work out any further what you want to do - I'll leave that to you. Bagunceiro (talk) 00:26, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

@Bagunceiro: Sorry about that. You're right. I meant to revert Cesarth~enwiki. I reverted using Twinkle without sufficient checking, when I should have performed an undo on the relevant edit. Dhtwiki (talk) 00:48, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

United States: Income, poverty and wealth

The statement regarding total compensation has been discussed on talk. I have other references that cover this fact. This was added to counter a misleading claim. There are additional factors that show the income inequality argument overstated, including after tax income and government transfer payments. I am not saying that the gap hasn't grown, but lets get the facts straight. I'd prefer to show both the exaggerated claims and the "rest of the story" so readers can judge for themselves.Phmoreno (talk) 01:17, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Imperial Crown of India Caption

A while back you added "A copy of" to the caption of the Imperial Crown of Indi photo. The trail back to the original flicker has no indication it is a copy. What is the indication it is a photo of a copy rather than the real thing? --CSvBibra (talk) 02:24, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

@CSvBibra: Compare that photo to those at the Royal Collection, linked from the article's external links section. The colors (cap of maintenance, frame) are wrong in the copy, and there apparently aren't as many gemstones. It's the difference in the proportions of the surmounted cross-pâtés that makes it clear that it's not just a matter of color photographic quality or change in the cap. Dhtwiki (talk) 02:41, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I will take a look. --CSvBibra (talk) 22:14, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
You are correct. The number of stones around the greenish stone is different (14 vs 18). If you are correct then the caption for the article on the crown itself should be changed too.--CSvBibra (talk) 22:35, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
@CSvBibra: But now I'm not sure at all. I looked at the un-cropped photo at flicker and the crown looks to be in a very jewel-house-like case. Then I looked at the photographer's photostream, and the other pictures are of London and the Tower. Your concerns may have been well founded. I probably should revert my edit at Crown Jewels. Still, that makes it a pretty bad photo, but not necessarily one of a copy. Dhtwiki (talk) 22:59, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Perhaps it is the back side and the official photo is from the front side??--CSvBibra (talk) 22:40, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I had just reverted my edit at Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom when I saw your message, and I'll leave it at that for now, but now I'm back to thinking it's a photo of a copy. I get the same discrepancy in jewel count around the lower front emerald that you did, and I don't think that's due to its being the backside, of which there are no photos at the Royal Collection, nor description implying that front and back are different. The difference in the proportions of the surmounted crosses-pattée can't be due just to optical illusion, they're too different. The crown may have been photographed at a museum in London that had such copies, especially as photography is forbidden inside the Jewel House (although that hasn't stopped photos from being taken there). River Phoenix

If you looked at the page for 2 seconds you would see River died in 1993, making it obviously impossible for him to be talking to Esquire in '94. I'll be changing it again, and expecting that you won't get involved once more — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.246.95.42 (talk) 17:11, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
