Vandalism
In response to your defence of your vandalism. Yes, your vandalism was a smart alec comment, not a hurtful slander. So is much of the vandalism by adolescents. It's still a damned pain for Wikipedia to have to deal with it, whether it comes from an adolescent boy or a middle-aged Harvard academic behaving like an adolescent boy. Wikipedia works because the level of vandalism is just about within the bounds that Wikipedians can cope with. If it was significantly higher it would drive people away and the project would start to fail (or would never have got far in the first place). Any action which tends to suggest that vandalising Wikipedia is no big deal threatens that fragile balance and is therefore irresponsible. Publicised vandalism by a Harvard academic (I found the Crimson article very easily on Google News) is highly likely to lead to copycat experiments by students or by teachers at less well known institutions, who may think that if it is a smart thing for you to do, it will be smart for them to do it too.Piccadilly 11:55, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Rick Levine
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi. When you recently edited Social objects, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hugh MacLeod (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Double Bottom Line revert
Dweinberger,
This is to let you know that I consider your deletion and characterization of my hard-researched edits of the Double bottom line Wikipedia article as vandalism. The operational concepts expressed in the article are exercised by large non-profit organizations, through-out the western industrialized world. What makes you think you know better? You should think twice before you trash the work of others. HamiltonFromAbove (talk) 01:29, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

A few helpful tips and encouragement from an admirer of your work ...
I'm noticing you haven't edited much since the kerfluffle above, with an editor who isn't entirely clear yet on the difference between an encyclopedic tone and promotional materials, and I'd like to encourage you to try editing here again sometime.
Here's a bit of what I've picked up about interacting on this site.
Since most folks are amateurs and volunteers, the best policy is to take the attitude, "thanks for putting something up to get this topic going, let's see what we can do with it."
You want to propose major changes on the talk pages before carrying them out, and put any corrections regarding your own off-wiki work on the talk page. (If nobody fixes the article for you, ask for help at the appropriate

Custom signature fix needed
Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.
The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.
The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.
Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Click the button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
- Update your signature to fix the error.
- Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.
Solution 3: Do nothing:
- In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.
If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
