ANI discussion
Hello. There is currently a discussion at ANI regarding a matter in which you have been involved. —Scheinwerfermann T·C04:48, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for this notification. I will follow the discussion and edit it if I feel I can add value. Ebikeguy (talk) 16:54, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
your request for off wiki action
Hi I have left you a request to retract your request for to wiki action against another wikipedia editor. here - please let me know if you refuse to retract, thanks Youreallycan (talk) 18:54, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- In that I have not requested any action against any specific Wikipedia editor, nor have I broken any Wikipedia editing rules. Therefore, I cannot comply with your request. I will not retract the insertion of contact information for a company using paid Wikipedia editors to whitewash their article on Jimbo's talk page. Ebikeguy (talk) 18:59, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
As you have refused to retract I have posted a report to
Hi -= would you please reply on
- Not at this point. Doing so would not advance the discussion, and could potentially compromise the anonymity of a Wikipedia editor. I will wait to see how others respond to your question before I decide whether or not to respond. Ebikeguy (talk) 21:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
ANI
Several issues here.
- Paid editing is an obvious COI, and we volunteers are understandably unhappy about this practice. I suspect that user isn't the only one; I frequently get responses to deletions/blocks on the lines of "my boss told be to write this". It's undesirable, but not actually prohibited as long as the edits don't show pov — although most do in practice.
- If the edits themselves are clearly pov, they should be reverted, or the article tagged, or an admin asked to take action if necessary.
- If the edits are not obviously pov, I think it is still reasonable to indicate that there is a potential COI. Some care is needed in how often you do this. If you are chasing around many articles, you will be accused of harassment, so better at that stage to involve someone else.
- Contacting an employer is fraught with problems. As you must have realised by now, going outside the wiki is bound to be seen as harassment, however justified your outrage. Encouraging others to do so is, I think, a mistake.
- As far as I can see, you've only identified the company, not the RL identity of the editor, and your correspondence is not deliberately malicious, but it's still a route best avoided. You are too involved; better to have contacted the foundation or gone to an appropriate forum like ANI to involve others
- You've acted in GF, but tried to do too much yourself. It doesn't look as if you are going to be blocked, but I think you have realised what a can of worms this is, and you shouldn't encourage others to go outside the Wiki again. It's too much like edit-warring, where both participants may be acting in good faith, but the net effect is to cause disruption.
- I've added this page to my watchlist, so I can keep an eye on things
I hope this helps, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:44, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Re your message: Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I haven't been feeling well for the past few days (I don't have bird flu, just bird umm... cold, hmm...). I see that lots and lots have been written about the issue so I don't think I have anything further to say that would all of a sudden bring the issue into stunning clarity. Once again, Jimfbleak's advice was written far better than I could and Tide rolls gave you some good advice about it, too. I support what they both said. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:30, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Email address redacted
I have redacted the email address you inserted in an edit to User talk:Jimbo Wales. This is not in any way a comment on your proposal, but a routine and standard action to remove email addresses in order to prevent those addresses from being subject to spambot attacks. Individual Wikipedians have a choice whether or not to publish their own email addresses, as they should be aware of the inherent risks of doing so; however, it is not appropriate to publish the email address of a third party. Note that your addition is only redacted, not revision-deleted or suppressed, and remains in the history of the page. Risker (talk) 23:27, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- You may already be aware of the ANI discussion regarding my insertion of this email address, but I am pointing it out to you in case your are not. Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 01:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello. You have a new message at Anna Frodesiak's talk page. 12:47, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
San Francisco meetup at WMF headquarters
Hi Ebikeguy,
I just wanted to give you a heads-up about the next wiki-meetup happening in SF. It'll be located at our very own Wikimedia Foundation offices, and we'd love it if some local editors who are new to the meetup scene came and got some free lunch with us :) Please sign up on the meetup page if you're interested in attending, and I hope to see you soon! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Maryana. Thanks for inviting me, but I live in the San Fernando Valley, so SF would be quite a trip. I'd be interested in such meetups, if any occurred in the LA area. Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 19:41, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Proposed compromise for Academy of Achievement
Looks like DGG has not replied to either of us on the Academy of Achievement Talk page, but it happens that I agree with you that a limited version of the EduCap section would not be unreasonable to include. I've repositioned my last comment as a new sub-section of the Talk page, and would like to see if I can restart discussion among previously involved editors, yourself included. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 23:24, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
