I'm not positive that your grammar correction to this was correct. Crook's taunting of Lennie, zeroing in on his most sensitive fears... is how it was, with a possessive apostrophe. Maybe it should be Crooks' instead, with a trailing apostrophe? I have still not mastered this, so I could be wrong. --Jomegat (talk) 17:09, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- My apologies, I meant to put in the trailing apostrophe since that's how I think it's supposed to be, and that's also how it was written in some other parts of the article. I've added in the apostrophe now, if it is wrong, feel free to correct it. EdoDodo (talk) 17:17, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- No apologies necessary! I was unsure myself, and I was pretty sure it was wrong before you changed it. This book is on my watchlist because it's a frequent vandalism target (especially the section on Curly's wife). I also flag "good" revisions whenever a legitimate change is made. Yours was by no means vandalism, but I just couldn't click the "this is a superb revision" button when I knew I'd be approving grammar that I didn't think was correct (even though it replaced grammar that I also didn't think was correct). I'm glad you went in and fixed it (even the first time), as this is how WB gets better. I'll flag the new rev in a couple of seconds. Thanks again! --Jomegat (talk) 19:27, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Discrepancy between reverts and talk page warnings
A note on your vandalism patrolling style: You seem to always choose the "rollback (VANDAL)" option when reverting unconstructive changes, regardless of whether they are clearly vandalism or not. If it isn't clear, you need to
When warning users it seems you are erring too far in the opposite direction. Virtually all of your warnings are level 1, "assume good faith". If the edit was sufficiently damaging, or they have an existing history of problematic edits, it's okay to jump to level 2 "no faith assumption made" or level 3 or higher "bad faith edit". Otherwise it's hard for editors and admins to tell exactly how severe the problems have been without manually examining every edit. These are just suggestions; every revert is different, but you should try to categorize them appropriately. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 18:26, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for the suggestion, indeed I haven't been paying much attention to which warning and/or revert option I was using. I will take more care to which one I use in future. - EdoDodo talk 18:34, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

DYK Backlog
Hi EdoDodo, I noticed you're reviewing some DYK entries. There is quite a backlog currently, and I was wondering if you would be willing to review some of the older entries that haven't been addressed (for example, I have one submitted 29 Dec that hasn't been looked at yet). Thanks! -SidewinderX (talk) 15:54, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll check out some of the older entries now :). - EdoDodo talk 15:57, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! I, and I'm sure others waiting down the list, appreciate it. Happy new year to you! -SidewinderX (talk) 16:00, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
AWB
I approved your request for using AWB. Please use the latest version found in http://toolserver.org/~awb/snapshots/ and remember that you should avoid making insignificant or inconsequential edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag, converting some HTML to Unicode, removing underscores from links (unless they are bad links), or something equally trivial. This is because it wastes resources and clogs up watch lists. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:27, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

question on article references section
I have noticed separate Notes and References sections in several articles that have become featured content. Is this the preferred way to reference articles with inline citations under Notes and a separate References section? Okiebradshaw (talk) 19:24, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, generally speaking most articles won't be long enough to require separate sections, just make footnotes for your references and put them in a References section. However, some articles that become fairly length have references that are used throughout, and not just for a specific sentence. In this case footnotes would be inappropriate, as footnotes generally refer to just a sentence or two from then text, so the footnotes are put in a Notes section, and the References that are used for the full article and not just certain parts of it are put into a References section. I hope this makes sense to you and that I have helped you. Happy editing. - EdoDodo talk 17:55, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the response. It was very helpful. Okiebradshaw (talk) 16:51, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: Halo Reach, release dates
It's long been decided that while retailer info might be great for release dates after the fact, before the game is actually released they are exceptionally unreliable (after all, they're trying to get your money, so posting a release date for preorders works in their interest.) Until there's a non-merchant source, we keep it off the article. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 14:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

EditCountBot
So EditCountBot is not currently working then? For all the insignificant things templates and bots currently do, I see no reason why service awards should not update automatically. It really is too bad that the community didn't like the idea, but I suspect that in this instance only those who were against the idea actually voted.
- Indeed, its a pity the bot wasn't accepted, I thought it did a fairly useful job too, but consensus was clear so I withdrew the request. I'm going to edit the user page of the bot now to avoid misleading people who may come to visit it. - EdoDodo talk 13:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

IRC Cloak Request
I confirm that I have requested use of the IRC cloak wikipedia/EdoDodo for my IRC nickname EdoDodo. - EdoDodo talk 12:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- What does that mean (I'm just trying to learn somethin)? screech} 12:43, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well basically an IRC cloak hides your hostname (usually your IP address) and instead gives you an identifier such as the one I am requesting (wikipedia/EdoDodo). This serves a double purpose of both proving that I am the EdoDodo on Wikipedia (otherwise anyone could have the IRC nickname EdoDodo and pretend to be me) as well as hiding my IP address when I'm on IRC. I have to confirm it here so that the people who review my request know that it really was me who requested the cloak, and not somebody who wants to pretend to be me. It's explained a bit better on this page, which also has instructions on how you can request a cloak. - EdoDodo talk 12:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Your Unreferenced tag for Merlin
Hello there, I've added some quotes and links to web pages and gave the source refs. Is this what you where missing? If not, can you name specific points needing referencing? Thanks. --ViStam (talk) 11:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, yes, the article and the references are a lot better now, well done. The article could still be improved a bit by using standard templates such as {{Cite web}} to reference things (see my edit), but overall it is in a pretty good state now. If you are interested in further improving the article our page on article development may be useful, I've also left you a welcome notice on your page that contains some useful links. - EdoDodo talk 11:46, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. mono 00:59, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, might help out, thanks for invitation. - EdoDodo talk 06:54, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support!
