Tennis-related articles

Greetings! I see you are creating a number of tennis-related articles, and while this is commendable, I suggest that it would be best to focus on one series before moving to another. As it is, there are tremendous numbers of red-links and unfinished bits in the articles. For example, please do not place articles into categories which do not exist (and do not create categories that will only have one or two articles in them). Take note not to try and call templates that don't exist...I see at least one or two calls for a {{

Verifiability policy. Take your time, and don't try to add everything at once, or you will overwhelm yourself with cleanup later on, and some of the articles you have worked hard to create may be deleted for not complying with policy. Please thoroughly read the links contained in the welcome message at the top of this page...they will help you tremendously in creating articles. If you have any questions, please leave a note on my talk page. Cheers! -- Huntster T@C 18:45, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply

Set tiebreaks

Hey man! You don't really need to put the number of points won during a tiebreak by the winner. The score is implied based on the score of the tie-break loser.

Match results

Can you stop editing match results before they're finished? You just did it AGAIN for the Blake-Stepanek match, editing in the result 5 minutes before it finished. And that's not even the first time I've seen you do it, so I thought I'd mention it.

Yuri Schukin

Could you please explain why you changed the nationality of Yuri Schukin from Russian to Kazakhstani? AecisBrievenbus 01:33, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the source. I have changed the article Yuri Schukin accordingly, and I am in the process of changing the flags in tournaments he played. Do you know when he changed nationality? AecisBrievenbus 21:51, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just came across this article from last week by Taiwanese news agency CNA. It says that "Schukin recently obtained a Kazakhstan passport..." This would mean that he still played under a Russian licence in 2007 and earlier, which means that he would get a Russian flag in tournaments prior to 2008. 2009 Tennis articles

In an attempt to upgrade the quality of tennis articles, I have taken up the suggestion of adding short day-by day summaries to each of the tournament articles for 2009. I noticed you were adding results to draw pages and wondered if you would mind helping me with this (see for example this summary of Day One of the Brisbane International that I wrote yesterday. I have added titles to this effect for tournaments currently taking place (Doha, Chennai, Brisbane and Hobart - the latter of which did not have an article until yesterday and needs a lead section). Can you let me know on my talk page. Thanks. 03md (talk) 11:49, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Were you planning to do any of the summaries this evening? 03md (talk) 16:55, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good start to the summary of the Chennai Open. I have added a few further details to the singles paragraph - just the players that the seeds beat and scorelines. 03md (talk) 22:50, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have you got the time to do a review of Days 4, 5 and 6 of the the Brisbane International - I have added references under the titles. I have already written comprehensive reviews of Days 1, 2 and 3 of the tournament which you are welcome to check through. 03md (talk) 18:18, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Are you planning on doing the daily reviews for the tournaments. 03md (talk) 17:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian tournaments

I saw you were doing the 1998 ATP Tour article and was wondering if you knew whether the Split and Zagreb tournnaments were one and the same. According to the International Series template, Split was played in 1998 and Zagreb before 1998 and then in 2006-2008 but the PBZ Zagreb Indoors article says no tournament was held from 1998 to 2006. Thanks. 03md (talk) 09:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers - I had created a redirect to PBZ Zagreb Indoors so will now create an article for Split and add a note to the Zagreb article. 03md (talk) 22:40, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tennis summaries

Hi, I asked you a month ago about doing the summaries for tennis articles this year. User:LeaveSleaves has proposed this structure for the grand slam articles that could also be applied to regular tournaments. Would you be able to write a review (not day-by-day but a tournament summary) based on those proposals, and I will then attempt it for other articles. Let me know on my talkpage. Thanks. 03md (talk) 19:01, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You could start with one of the completed tournaments from last week - which article are you going to do so I can keep an eye on it? Remember to add references from ATP/WTA and other reliable websites. 03md (talk) 22:02, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's starting to look good. I have moved the first two sentences of the "Tournament" section back to the top so it still has a lede section - hope this is okay. I will not alter anything else until you are finished. 03md (talk) 22:53, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritics

Hello ! You may have noticed that I have added diacritics to the players' names on the 2009 ATP World Tour article some days ago, as it seems their use is now the preferred practice in tennis articles like 2009 French Open or 2009 Wimbledon Championships - so please continue using them in you next edits on the page. Hello there!

Unfortunately I had to revert your recent edits, since as far as I am concerned partial updates make more damage than not. "Partial" as only adding points to eliminated players thus giving them an unfair advantage and "partial" as not updating according to the criteria written in the headline (players above 300 pts). So in general you have to count all other player's results (in Challenger series as well) to see who entered as new ones to the table. My calculations show that Dmitry Tursunov, Xavier Malisse and Mikhail Youzhny will enter the following week though I am planning to level up the limit to 400 hundred to cut down the table. All things considered I must say that there's no need to update it until the end of the actual running highest tournament (because it only makes sense as daily updates do). If you want to follow the current results or see what will be added in the end of the event you can check my

Hello again. There's a debate going on whether the Monte Carlo Masters is 500 OR 1000 event regarding its classification in the best 18 tournament limit (it rewards 1000 points but it was added to the 500 table last year according to the 2010 ATP Rulebook). I haven't found any information for that this year, and I guess it's because that it haven't changed. That's why I included it in the 500 coloumn and the concerning sidenote and points will show that it's still a Masters event. In its current form the table has capacity for 19 tournaments, which is wrong and misleading. What's your opinion?

Heh, I never realized I had that many edits. And I usually almost always only edit tennis results & ranking changes. Yes, I religiously play and watch as well as edit. GAThrawnIGF (talk) 22:33, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. Gosh - you do spend your time well! I like tennis too - prefer doubles mostly - singles is too hard work (you can't shout "yours" so easily in singles!).

Yes, you have indeed done that many edits - see here.

I think the sterling work you do on tennis is very valuable to Wikipedia.

Just a thought, though ... did you realise we're supposed to supply

Edit Summaries
(ESs) with our edits?

Had you thought about ESs? How do you feel about them? Regards, Trafford09 (talk) 22:49, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can see you're a person of many actions, but usually (in WP circles) little conversation. Nonetheless, there is clear evidence that you are very articulate.

Why am I harping on about ESs? Well, like many editors, I suppose, I have a lot of articles on my

wp:watchlist
- I expect you may have even more. And like many editors, I try to maintain the quality of those articles, by keeping tabs on their edits. If an edit's by a known (blue) editor, and has an ES (however brief), then there's a reasonable probability that the edit is sound & I can ignore it & sleep peacefully. But if not, I feel it's my (joint) responsibility to review the edit, and if necessary undo it &/or notify the editor concerned.

But why should this concern you? After all, you seem a sincere (& prolific) editor. What's in it for you, if you supply ESs? Well, like me (& I dare say more so), you have a passion for WP. You contribute to its quantity & have a care for its quality too. Very commendable. But of course it's a collaborative project, and we can all be different team members. So, while you do more than your fair share of creating articles and maintaining them, you benefit from other editors monitoring the articles & maintaining their quality, by reviewing suspect edits, yes?

So, I think that's where ESs play their valuable role for me and even indirectly you (and why, of course, consensus is to

wp:ES#Always_provide_an_edit_summary
).

So, you're already, as I said before, an invaluable WP editor. Won't you consider the fairly small step of supplying ESs, becoming an even more valuable and exemplary team member? After all, ESs don't need to be verbose. Single words like 'ranking' or 'result' are quick to type (or paste), and other editors know not to review such edits.

If you think my argument is unreasonable, please tell me where I may be wrong, won't you?

Best wishes, Trafford09 (talk) 10:01, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summaries

Hi - it might be interesting to note that (completely separately from the above) I just came here to comment on your (and User:Mrf8128) lack of edit summaries at 2011 ATP World Tour Finals. I noted that someone had updated the performances of Troicki and Almargo at the US Open but no one else. Because of a lack of editing summaries, it made it very difficult to work out if this was an error, or deliberate. As Trafford09 notes above, the reason for doing it is fairly clear: Wikipedia articles are developed by a community, and it makes it much easier for others to support your many edits! --Pretty Green (talk) 12:53, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WTA Finals qualification points

Hi, I am contributing myself to 2015 WTA Finals and I see that a gold background for a player means she has enough points to qualify, but could 4000 points be enough? Today, Serena reached 4015 points, does that mean she has qualified? Last year the 8 qualified players where over 4000 points. Thanks for any input.

Luxembourg

Well, it's not my decision: The Road To Singapore leaderboard follows the same ranking guidelines as the WTA Rankings for singles, with one exception. Points earned from Luxembourg, an International event the week of October 19, will not factor in due to the fact that the Luxembourg final falls on a Sunday. The points will however, affect each player's ranking and qualification chances for the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai. http://www.wtatennis.com/news/article/5045337/title/a-numbers-game-the-rts-leaderboard Better inform yourself before starting to swear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tennistz (talkcontribs) 10:55, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2017 WTA Finals

So... again... /* Singles - @GAThrawnIGF ok smarty if you don't believe check race on wta official site http://www.wtatennis.com/rankings .. so is it 3,365 or 3,396 for Wozniacki? inform yourself before editing */ the thing that on the chart there are not seen all the tournaments Wozniacki played does not mean that she doesn't have those "unseen" tournament points counted (till she fills all 16 tournaments seen on chart, you know); because the thing is that the rankings are made of the 16 best tournaments, but if you haven't played all those most count tournaments (Majors, P.M, and two P5), their place can be replaced with those "other tournaments"; so, since Wozniacki played 15 tournaments this year, but still there are two must count tournaments that aren't played yet (US Open and Beijing), and also one more for Wozniacki since she played only one P5, and their place can be taken by those other tournaments, and Wozniacki has two more other tournaments which aren't seen in chart because she already filled other tournaments with six best. But of course those famous invisible for you 31 points will disappear when she enter those must count tournaments (first to disappear someday will be this one point for some first round loss, and then 30). That's how rankings work. So yeah how do you think the rankings work for those lower ranked who don't even play those must count tournaments? Funny, considering you, they would be like 5 more times lower ranked because they can only fill 6 best other tournaments, and then they would play but nothing would be counted. So, again, inform yourself before editing.

Infobox Update

Hey GAThrawnIGF, Please when you're updating infoboxes, make sure that all the information in the box is updated. I just wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions were not quite right. When updating statistics within the infobox of a tennis player, please make sure you update the timestamp at the same time, so that both readers and fellow editors know when the information was last updated.

You can do this by replacing the existing timestamp within the |update= parameter for stats. For articles that use a DMY

date format, use five tildes (~~~~~), or for MDY dates, use {{subst:mdytime
}}. This will generate the specific time the update was made.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you, Ugochukwu75 (talk) 05:50, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
