Bodin page
I have started work on Jean Bodin. It looks like a long project. Charles Matthews (talk) 09:56, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
That would be a start, certainly. I have more than enough material in fact - Quentin Skinner's Foundations has over 30 mentions, and those alone would take time to go through. My way of building up articles probably seems atomistic and non-linear, but I'm not going to apologise too much for it. The whole absolutism debate isn't something to rush at. As you'll notice, I believe in "naming names" first. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:29, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
It would be useful if you put it on the Talk page of the article, so that it can be integrated gradually (by anyone). It doesn't have the kind of inline referencing that is now considered de rigueur here (not that I think that deWP has that wrong for this kind of topic); and it also mixes the works and life in a way that doesn't scale up as well as separate sections, which are pretty obviously better for a writer who turned his hand to disparate subjects. Charles Matthews (talk) 19:15, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- The translation from German is up now. It has a strong biographical narrative. Enjoy.
- I am not an advocate of excessive inline referencing for basic factual information that is "encyclopedic". I concede that I have lost this battle on Wikipedia. Gamonetus (talk) 14:07, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll do more Bodin as time goes by. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:15, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, it took my modem dying on Friday, giving me some compulsory offline days; but I managed to do the note-taking I wanted. I have put most of my first pass up now; also copied in the biography from the talk page; and have begun merging and copy editing and referencing. I can't say I'm pleased with the results yet: more work to do. But at least what is now up there may do the subject more like justice. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:03, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of

Page move
I have made the move to Konrad Pellikan, some time having passed. I haven't forgotten about Bodin, but I was working at Pierre Charron this morning, which was needy. Thanks for your input at editio princeps, by the way; that page is transformed now. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:43, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks.
- Yes the editio princeps article has come a long way. User:Aldux has done most of the heavy lifting.
- I have not forgotten about Jean Bodin either, but have been more interested in a few other issues of late including the Petri family. Gamonetus (talk) 02:41, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your translation--you saved me the trouble! Did you see that the BBKL is no longer a free service? I guess I understand, but it's very unhelpful--and 300E is not cheap. Drmies (talk) 03:11, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
- The acknowledgment is appreciated. Crankiness often seems to overwhelm scholarly comradery on Wikipedia. Yes the loss of free BBKL is substantial. Gamonetus (talk) 14:03, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm plenty cranky. I've been writing up a bunch of those 19th and 20th century scholars, and fortunately their coverage is pretty good on the German WP, though their sourcing and formatting style lacks a bit compared to the English WP. I'm embarrassed to admit that I still haven't written up (or translated) Michael Tangl, even while I'm redlinking him all over the place. BTW, I'm pleased to see that the MGH is available online--how can they afford to do that? Hey, maybe you can answer a query: a couple of years ago I often used this database that listed the contents of thousands of German journals (for my purposes, tons of historical and religious journals--I don't know what their other coverage was). I can't remember if it was on a university's server or not--I want to say that there was mention of Stuttgart somewhere. Does this sound familiar to you? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 14:45, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

- Thanks for adding the reference cite text, which I turned into a journal cite using information from here. I'm guessing that the Gurf Morlix guitar riff comment is also from this article? If so, cite it as well. Thanks. -- J. Wong (talk) 20:25, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I considered making the Gunnar Karlsson article a draft for being unsourced; the only reason I didn't, is because there are - apparently - sources on the Icelandic Wikipedia's article. Please integrate those into the text. Thanks. DS (talk) 23:15, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
- How did that turn out? He was a major figure and thus merits the article in English.
