A kitten for you!

Thanks for your efforts. I've got to tell you, you've made me smile. I have been reviewing new userpages for the last hour or so, and yours is the first one I've come to that wasn't either essentially blank or that I had to nominate for deletion due to some sort or promo issue or even worse. Glad you are here!

Your work on Augustin-Jean Fresnel inspires me immensely. I thank you for this masterpiece! We should rename it to "Putland's memoir on Augustin-Jean Fresnel". I never knew the French called their papers memoirs. How fascinating. I am happy you kept that language.

BTW, I was afraid to even touch it. I am doubly inspired by your graciousness. I would be honoured if you would nominate it for GA and allow me to review it. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 07:40, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Submissions on article ratings

At Talk:Fresnel rhomb and Talk:Total internal reflection, I am testing a hypothesis: That you can get a newly improved article re-rated up to at least B-class, reasonably promptly, if you are willing to do the work of compiling all the relevant information that can be objectively compiled.

Total internal reflection

optical phenomenon
in which light waves are completely reflected under certain conditions when they arrive at the boundary between one medium and another. This photograph was taken from near the bottom of the shallow end of a swimming pool. The swimmer has disturbed the water surface above her, scrambling the lower half of her reflection, and distorting the reflection of the ladder. Most of the surface is still calm, giving a clear reflection of the tiled bottom of the pool. The air above the water is not visible except at the top of the frame where the angle of incidence of light waves is less than the critical angle and therefore total internal reflection has not occurred.

Good day sir. Is it possible to add citations for this bicentenary, otherwise it cannot be displayed Bumbubookworm (talk) 03:22, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The date of the reading to the Academy of Sciences is given in reference 3 (A. Fresnel, "Note sur la double réfraction du verre comprimé"...). For confirmation, I have inserted a link to the first page of the reprint in the Oeuvres complètes, where the date of the reading is stated. If more evidence is needed, the reading is confirmed in the Procès-verbaux des séances de l'Académie for 16 September 1822, at https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k33009/f367 and https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k33009/f368.
Or did you mean that the date should be mentioned in the text of the article? — Gavin R Putland (talk) 07:20, 12 September 2022 (UTC).[reply]
Hello, the date of the event needs to mentioned in the artcile and be cited, and in general, almost all the contents of the article need to be inline cited like in a GA, which I see you have experience with. At the moment there are many uncited sections. Thanks Bumbubookworm (talk) 10:43, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I have updated the list of OTDs for September 16, but this is preliminary and the photoelasticity can be substituted back in, if you are able to add the sources Bumbubookworm (talk) 20:53, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'm not in a position to do that much work on the article any time soon, so I'll have to let it go. Best regards. — Gavin R Putland (talk) 07:24, 13 September 2022 (UTC).[reply]
