Did you know that there is a template for the talk page of featured media on the en-Wiki; see File talk:Rooster04 adjusted.jpg? You could add {{WikiProject Birds|class=FM}} to the talk page of your photographs that are featured on en-Wiki. As far as I am aware, this probably does not include articles featured on Commons, which is a different project. Snowman (talk) 11:11, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did not. I guess I could add them to my images over about 30 minutes or so I think. That said, it seems like it would be smarter to do it with a bot on every image in Wikipedia:Featured_pictures/Animals/Birds. JJ Harrison (talk) 11:21, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to know what you thought first. I plan to add the templates with semi-automated software. Snowman (talk) 11:37, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Update: all done; see Category:FM-Class bird articles. Your talk page is rather long and I think that it would be better to archive most of it. Snowman (talk) 12:10, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Calling them 'articles' is a little awkward, but I don't think it matters really. I archived my talk page. JJ Harrison (talk) 13:16, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Since your request is five years old now (heh) so I doubt you're still watching it, I provided a link on the talk page of Diffusion (acoustics) for a primitive root diffusor calculator. Solarbird (talk) 18:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've never really bothered editing my watchlist much, so I suspect it'd still be on there. Easy to miss something like that though. I replied on the talk page of that article. That'd be the longest response time I've had! JJ Harrison (talk) 08:19, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, JJ Harrison. I have nominated your image File:Thinornis rubricollis Bruny Island.jpg for Featured Picture delisting. I love your work and this picture is okay but this one doesn't seem up to the standards of Featured Pictures for reasons stated in the nomination. No hard feelings, Jason Quinn (talk) 20:35, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing as the last human edit to it was in 2008, I wonder if anyone will notice it's gone? Were you doing random page patrol? I must get into that more often. Peridon (talk) 14:06, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it would be missed. It came up somehow on a Facebook page actually. I clicked through because several of the guy's kids or grandkids went to my school and so I recognised the name. I'm not sure the subject meets notability criterion, and the article as is does meet the criteria for CSD because of the way it is written, imo. JJ Harrison (talk) 23:45, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My name is Alice Robets and I'm a communications intern with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. You can see some of our past POTD posts here: https://blog.wikimedia.org/c/communications/picture-of-the-day/
Given that your photo is scheduled for 4 December 2012, we'd love to do a short interview with you either by phone, Skype, or email to discuss your work and your POTD. If you are interested, please send me an email at [email protected] and I can send you a short list of questions.
Hello,

Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site:
1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at:

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. Age template
Hi, I was admiring the images in your Featured Picture Gallery. That's a pretty awesome collection. I noticed that you gave a manually input "23" as your age. There is an age template that automatically calculates your age that will save a bit of updating every year, as in the following: 35.
Important: Do not use your exact date of birth. You don't want to be giving out too much information that can aid identity thieves.

Featured Pictures titles
Hello JJ, Your photo gallery is outstanding. Just for information (not a criticism) the first two featured pictures on your user page have the titles swapped, that is, the first picture is labelled 'Curlew Sandpiper' and the second 'Pacific Golden Plover' when the opposite is the case. Regards.....Summerdrought (talk) 10:18, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JJ, I have just noticed that the same title swap error is on your Gallery, about 10 photos from the top of the list. Regards, Summerdrought (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In the interest of full disclosure, I've made a few tweaks to the border (outside the image itself) since you voted. I think it's pretty clearly an improvement, but think it only fair to tell everyone. Adam Cuerden(talk) 06:01, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I could persuade you of the the importance of recognising truly practically free content, without onerous restrictions, at FP, but that's not why I'm here. Few contributors can claim to have produced content in sufficient quantity and quality to make a mark in Wikipedia's vast collection of articles and photographs. I think you are an exception. Your collection of thousands of completely free images and hundreds of featured pictures is quite amazing. These are not the sort of photographs anyone could produce (like my meagre efforts). You investment in time and commitment to take them, describe and catalogue them (and your investment in the kit required too), along with your obvious talent, makes quite an impressive donation. Thank-you. Colin°Talk 09:49, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I see your great picture [2]. I have Canon camera too, and I wont to choose macro lens for my Canon 600d. Could you please tell me witch kind of macro lens be best for macro photographing? Or witch kind of lens was used for making picture witch I give above? Afro-Braz-Iliantalk 23:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. I used a Canon MP-E 65mm with focus stacking for that photo. But I have since sold that lense. I'd recommend starting with a normal macro lens first though. JJ Harrison (talk) 00:22, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Now I photographing with CyberShot Sony DSC-w690 witch I get together with Canon cam in January 2012. But the canon cam has state lens. I have practice in macro photographing since 2007 (with DSC w30). Now I wont to get professional macro lens for making insect pictures in Latvia, but in future I gonna go to voyage round the tropics and subtropics, and that so I wont to make best quality photos. Afro-Braz-Iliantalk 12:05, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Is possible to make quality photos of for example birds witch are far (~100 m) of my place? Or for it I need some else lens? Afro-Braz-Iliantalk
Hey, JJ, Um... we have an article on Preah Pithu, and it really needed a good photo, as the only photo in it was a long shot through a crack in masonry. Artistic, but not very informative. I've added the image there, but you might want to check for articles to put images in a bit more before nominations, as this would be passing easily had it been in there from the start. =) Adam Cuerden(talk) 17:00, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Back in the WT:BIRDS archive, you mentioned something about creating a GreaseMonkey script to capitalize bird names. How would that work, exactly? Wouldn't it just have to check a really huge list of known strings and change their case? If there were a way to automate it, I can think of quite a number of style disputes such a tool could help alleviate, far beyond vernacular name capitals. Even aside from that, I'd previously thought of a {{vernacular}} template to wrap around vernacular names, since some botanical and a few non-bird zoological niches also like to capitalize these. A Lua script could probably handle it with aplomb, including possibly different handling of capitalization after a hyphen, depending on preference. The effects would only be available via a Gadget in logged-in user prefs, or user CSS, but it would be something. — SMcCandlish ☺☏¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 07:00, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
