Let's keep it clean, OK?  :-) Anyway, JaGa, if you've looked at the script status page, you may have noticed one odd thing. Most of the scripts are running much more quickly on Labs than they did on Toolserver; for example, the twice-daily Disambig Updates are taking about 10 minutes as opposed to about an hour. But the "hourly" DAB Challenge updates are taking longer; anywhere from 65 to 85 minutes, where they used to run in 20-30 minutes on the Toolserver. Well, since the problem is solely coming from the create_results_list() function, I suspect something in the API calls is causing problems. Oddly enough, the create_results_list() method of dab_procs.php is performing acceptably well. I've set logging_enabled=true in ch_procs.php to get a look at what's going on - maybe something is causing the method to go too deep into each article's history. Greetings! Is it possible to do a one-day disambiguation contest count? If so, is is possible to do one that covers all disambig fixes, and not just those on the usual lists? Yes, but it would require bandwidth that I simply don't have right now. I'd say I'd make a copy of the monthly script, rename all the tables, remove the top 1000 limit, scrap all the bonus list stuff, and tally up at the end of the day. For a small wiki such as ours with just 57000+ articles this is not good and we are unable to fix that easily. so we request your help to provide an extension to use dplbot for tawiki if possible. I think the last of the fixes to this article have been completed. I am the one who moved this article and incorrectly thought I had fixed all links to and from the subject article, as well as create a new disambiguation page to point to the three Lake Valencias in English Wikipedia. The link to Sardinian appears in the very first version that you originally submitted, and it has not been changed by any later edit. Recently I removed the "incoming links template" from the Bishop of Ross disambiguation page but your DPL bot has readded the template again because the disambiguation page has 30 or more links. The problem is that the disambiguation page only appears to have more than 30 or more links because of the Template:Scottish Church navbox. I've edited/updated the link in the Template:Scottish Church from "Bishop of Ross" to "Bishop of Ross (Scotland)", but for some reason or another the navbox still behaves that it has not been edited/updated. Why the navbox still does that I do not know. If you ignored those links which the navbox generates, then there'd be 5 or 6 links, a few of which have the same problem with the navbox, leaving only a few links left to the Bishop of Ross disambiguation page. So, I was notified of a disambiguation link on a page, and it suggested an edit, which produced this result. What the issue is is that it sent it to a red link, so I was wondering if you wanted to repeat this bug, because I have never encountered this before. Thanks!

It suggested that because other articles were using that redlink. There's really nothing wrong with using a redlink, but in this case, the redlink should have been a redirect to blog. Greetings! I have been tossing this idea back and forth in my head for a while. Sometimes, at the beginning of the monthly contest, I will notify specific projects about disambiguation pages relating to those projects that have large numbers of incoming links. For example, this notice to WikiProject Mathematics. Would it be possible to automate this, so that at the beginning of every month, various wikiprojects would get such a notice? I've thought along these lines too, but I doubt there would be many disambigs that are project-specific beyond Mathematics and some biology disambigs. I do wish there was some way to get the Mathematics WikiProject more involved since their dabs are usually the only ones I feel really need expert attention to get fixed properly. It would be great to have a math-dab contest for that project, but I just don't have time to set it up. It would be a huge undertaking. --JaGa^talk 07:49, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

The dabs may not be project-specific as a whole, but the solutions may be. I would tend to say, for example, that almost any dab titled "Battle of Foo" for which any link on the page is under the military wikiproject should generate an alert to that project; any dab titled "Saint Foo" should generate an alert to the Catholicism wikiproject; links to things like "Spanish" and "Italian" and "German" should generate alerts to the respective wikiprojects for Spain, Italy, and Germany; and links to "heavy metal" should generate alerts to projects for both music and chemistry. Even if it turns out not to be the right project (e.g. alerting the chemistry project when the link is to a "heavy metal" band), the notice may spur someone to fix the link. bd2412 T 19:44, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I wonder if you can help with something that puzzles me. Today your "DPL bot" added Template:Incoming links to Woodbridge. I noticed that because I was the last person to update that page. It does have a lot of incoming links, most of which weren't there earlier today! What seems to have happened is that today someone created Template:Vaughan and added it to a lot of pages, all of which now link to Woodbridge. But I can't see how Template:Vaughan links to Woodbridge. It only links to Woodbridge, Ontario and Woodbridge College. Can you show me what I'm missing? Thanks! Thanks, I understand what happened, but the oddity is how long those incoming links have taken to disappear. I've been watching, just for interest: they've been going slowly, but even now, a week later, Special:WhatLinksHere/Woodbridge still shows two spurious incoming links, from Vaughan Mills and CFU758. Hi Today when I logged in I found message showing I have blocked indefinitely, I do not know why as far as I know I haven't add or edit anything false but I have seen same user keep on editing with false information and they are doing it everyday. Therefore my question is why they are not blocked but I am doing or fixing lots of error and I got the message that I have been blocked then immediately this blocked message removed. I my opinion people should be blocked permanently who add false information or without knowing corrupt the page and left. Thanks for the info concerning disambiguation. On another note, I wonder if it would be possible (and practicle) to make a change to the wikipage titled McHale's Navy (film). There were two movies with this title, one made in 1964 under the wikipage title McHale's Navy (1964 film) and the other was made in 1997 under the wikipage title McHale's Navy (film). To help remove confusion, I think the latter should be retitled as McHale's Navy (1997 film), but I fear doing so might undo all the links to the original title. Editors who don't use a script to see disambiguation links may want to fix them, but may not want to click through dozens or hundreds of links in an article to find the ones that need fixing. Would it be possible to adjust this template so that if the number of links is not unwieldy (I would say, if there are less than a dozen), the template actually lists the links that need to be fixed? There is a note at the top of the page about the page having "multiple issues" — "This article needs more links to other articles to help integrate it into the encyclopedia. Please help improve this article by adding links that are relevant to the context within the existing text. (September 2013) — I did this a few days ago. How do we get someone to recognise this and remove the comment?

Regarding the second note — "This article relies on references to primary sources. Please add references to secondary or tertiary sources. (July 2008)" — I have more or less rewritten the page by adding in a lot of detail from the liner notes from the CDs. Is the note still relevant? Went to the Toolserver list today to do an uncats batch, and I got the following message: The page you requested is hosted by the Toolserver user jason, whose account has expired. Toolserver user accounts are automatically expired if the user is inactive for over six months. To prevent stale pages remaining accessible, we automatically block requests to expired content.

Would it be possible for you to either reactivate your account, or hand that tool off to somebody else if you're not planning to stay active on Toolserver anymore? Just for a bit of background on this, what's happening is that a user created a new template, {{wikisource redirect}}, for soft redirects to Wikisource and has started using it to replace the old {{softredirect|wikisource}} on some pages. The uncats tool correctly avoided detecting soft redirects as "uncategorized articles" with the old template, but it is picking up pages which have the new template on them. Technical 13 did identify and fix a coding error in the new template, but it hasn't resolved the erroneous pickups.

So I guess the question is, is the uncats tool coded to avoid soft redirects by virtue of their inclusion in the hidden Category:Redirects to Wikisource, or is it coded to avoid them by virtue of the page's content consisting of the "softredirect" template itself? If it's the former, then I'm not sure what to suggest besides hunting for a coding bug — but if it's the latter, then could you add {{wikisource redirect}} to the tool code as a new exclusion? My guess, though, is that you're right - it will be an easy fix to add a new exclusion - but before that I'll have to do the legwork of making sure the fix would do no harm. • Hello, and welcome! First, you don't have to enter; as long as you fix dabs your contributions will be noted. That being said, the contest is limited to two lists: the Monthly list (dabs with a lot of incoming links at the beginning of the month) and the Bonus list (dabs with 4 or fewer incoming links at the beginning of the month). I wish I could include all disambigs in the contest, but at present that would mean too many to process. If some of your contributions were missed, I'm guessing they were dabs that weren't part of the contest. If you continue to see problems, let me know and I'll figure out what's happening.

I was looking at your tool for disambiguation pages with links, and I wonder if is there any chance to make something similar for the spanish Wikipedia (I mean, if it is as easy as changing a parameter in the code or it's more difficult). It wears a bit thin.

This bot is an essential part of Wikipedia so don't get me wrong when I say I would like it to be substantially rewritten. For a user with a dozen or more stumbling edits it sets the right tone- but when your edit count reaches 4 figures, and the local addiction clinic starts sending you personlised invitations - the tone is slightly patronising. So I propose that the bot examines my user page, for some sort of marker, may be a hidden category to see how many times it has visited before, on gleaning the information that I am visited regularly- it just sends me a notification with a simple message. "Oops, XXXXX you used on YYYYY is a disambiguation page- this edit needs attention" if there is no record that I have been visited before I get the full treatment as before. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 12:45, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Intentional Addition of Disambiguation Link

I received a notice from DPL bot that I had added a disambiguation link to an article, and probably did it by accident. In this case I did it on purpose in a hatnote. Maybe this is uncommon enough that the bot doesn't need to worry about it. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:32, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Not sure what you're loading, but since the first line in the exception is '/usr/lib/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py', it appears to be an error relating to Dispenser's dab_solver tool (which, as discussed above, is now defunct), not an error in anything done by DPL Bot. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:21, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Jack Johnson confusion

Thanks for the message regarding what I did to Austin & Ally: Turn It Up. I had no idea there was more than one Jack Johnson. I just fixed it so that it only leads to the singer Jack Johnson. The first track on the Austin & Ally: Turn It Up album is called "Upside Down" and contains an interpolation of Jack Johnson's song of the same name. If you listen to the chorus from the Austin & Ally song "Upside Down" and then listen to the chorus of Jack Johnson's "Upside Down", you'll notice the similarities.
