Explain?
Would you please briefly explain, on the film's talk page, your recent move of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds (2005 film)? I can't actually tell the difference. The article has been contentious at times, so an unexplained move has the potential to be misunderstood. Thanks. Categories for Pink Floyd
Hi. I'm wondering if adding categories for Pink Floyd as a duo and trio are going to be rather confusing. I mean, I like Pink Floyd, but they certainly confuse me. I assume that if I read the article I would find out who constituted the trio and the duo, but I tend to think of them as the entire band; perhaps the category just for the classic line-up should be used; Gilmour, Waters, er, Wright... and... um... the other one, if there was another one. See? I'm not very good at this. But, nevertheless, I think the multitude of categories relating to band member numbers is probably unwise. --bodnotbod (talk) 16:16, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
[edit] display
Home sick today so I had a little time for further investigation. The problem apparently exists with all browsers except ... you guessed it ... IE (7.0). The problem can be demonstrated on Firefox (3.5.11), Opera (10.10), and Safari (4.0.5). by visiting the Church of the Brethren article and navigating to the Beliefs section. Then varying the width of the window will show the [edit] links dancing around like sprites. At around 762 pixels wide (on all non-IE browsers tested), the [edit] links for Beliefs and Non-Creedalism display properly. From the looks of the elements moving around them, I would hazard a guess it has something to do with the way Wikipedia is styling the boxed sections since several of them are converging at that point of the displayed page as the window width is being changed. I prefer to style my web pages to work properly on Firefox and then add hacks to accommodate IE. A LOT FEWER problems that way and a LOT FEWER changes down the road when M$ is finally forced to adhere to the standards. Thanks for your feedback. I wonder how we can alert the wizards of Wikipedia to this coding problem? JimScott (talk) 16:48, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Minor Counties cricketers
Can you please show me where the CfD discussion took place? I can't find it. It is wrong, as the cat refers to players who played for a team known as "Minor Counties", not just the "minor counties" as a collective. See
) 00:27, 5 September 2010 (UTC)- Thanks for the quick reply. This case is a fairly easy one to get wrong, as the main topic on the Counties is about the generic counties, with just a mention half way down about the team. As WT:CRIC first to see if there is some unique quirk about the game that may be a reason for an apparent error. There is a fairly high level of scepticism about the CfD regulars, and things like this just reinforce that view - although it isn't warranted in this case, as it isn't as clear as it should be. I'm sure that we can all make it a lot clearer now that the confusion has been highlighted. Regards, The-Pope (talk) 02:10, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Please, stop adding Ginger Pooley to the official member list. Grateful Dead album chronology
Greetings, Koavf. Yes, per
- Indeed, this question has been well thought out and discussed previously, and I and other editors have expended a fair amount of effort making sure that the Grateful Dead album infobox chronologies are consistent and form a single chain. For that matter, the same is true, and for similar reasons, for Allman Brothers Band albums. Again, I agree with what it says at WP:ALBUM#Chronology -- for most artists, studio and live albums should have separate chains, but for some artists they should form a single chronology. So, I'm going to go ahead and put the American Beauty and Grateful Dead infoboxes back the way they were. If you wish to discuss this further, feel free to reply, either here or on my talk page. Thanks again. — Mudwater (Talk) 23:52, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

- Okay I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore; it's the character's name and it's sourced. How quickly it was mentioned or which part of his name is even more trivial than the wordplay itself. Several characters have ridiculous last names that are mentioned once and it makes no sense to delete the last name; this is a waste of time. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 04:10, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

CFD speedy categories
I don't know if you were aware of a recent software tweak, but there's now a very good reason to not process CFD speedy renames manually, as you have been doing. If they are processed by Cydebot, the new category that is created is automatically transferred onto the watchlist of anyone who had the old category on their watchlist. This is not done if we just manually create a new category and delete the old one manually. So I suggest for this reason it should be left to the bot now. Thanks. Good Ol’factory (talk) 10:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- I saw your examples, and they seem 100% fine as manual renaming procedure, but I don't think that the new category you create are transferred to the watchlist of people who had the old category on their watchlists. When the bot does it they are automatically transferred on watchlists, which is why I think they should be left for the bot to do. It's not fair to be removing these from users' watchlists if we don't have to. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:39, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- As long as you move the talkpage then it seems to work. I was misunderstanding what you were doing. (In any case, it seems like a bit of a waste of labour, since a bot can do this automatically and will also delete the old category automatically, whereas how you do it requires someone to delete it manually. It's kind of annoying, really, and would be easier to just let a bot do it.) Also, if there is no pre-existing talkpage, it could result in removal of it from watchlists since there would be no talkpage to move; unless you bothered to create one, of course, but doing so is not always warranted.
