Orphaned non-free media (Image:Labour Party 2007.png)
You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media
).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:29, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
British & American spellings
I'm not really interested in warring over them, but what's going on with
Pan-Slavic colours? Both were originally started under "colors" and do not concern specifically British topics. I believe the changes were made before the current rules in the MoS, but the MoS does clearly state that this change is "unacceptable" right in the intro. If someone changed them back to American spellings, what would happen? 65.190.92.233 (talk) 04:19, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply

Motto of the day
Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by
our nominations page
and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the

Fair use rationale for Image:Bankofscotlandireland.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to
fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale
.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Suntag☼ 06:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploading Image:Bankofscotlandireland.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on
48 hours after 06:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Suntag☼ 06:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:UniCamLogo.JPG)
You've uploaded
Wikipedia's rules for non-free images
. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.
I'm delighted to announce that we've started a new Ireland Wikimedian email list, that you can join, at mail:WikimediaIE. For Wikimedians in Ireland and Wikimedians interested in events in Ireland and efforts in Ireland. It's there to to discuss meetups, partnerships with Museums and National Archives, and anything else where Wikipedia and real life intersect. --Bastiquedemandez 23:55, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
RTE
Dear Kwekubo,
I would disagree with your decision to delete the images on the RTE entry. They are all in context and given that the article is quite long it makes some what easier on the eye to read. Rather than get involved in an edit war with you, I would welcome your thoughts first.

File:Bankofscotlandireland.png has been restored per your request. You do, however, need to fix the fair use rationale, as the article that the file is being used on and the article that the fair use rationale provides do not match. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:07, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Talkback
Hello, Kwekubo. You have new messages at Edokter's talk page. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of William Macneile Dixon, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://gdl.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/eyrwho/eyrwho0511.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

Replaceable fair use File:VC Beharry.jpg
Hi Kwekubo,
I've explained my rationale in using the image on the image talk page. Quite simply, it's an image covered by Crown copyright which, at the time that I uploaded the file, was acceptable to use in Wikipedia. Furthermore, there is currently no free image that we can use to illustrate the subject - all other images I found were newspaper-produced private pictures. Right now, the only image for Johnson Beharry is an image of the VC medal - there is no image of Beharry himself. If the choice is between a British Crown Copyright image or no image, I'd say the British Crown Copyright image is preferable. I'll copy this rationale to the image. --Deathphoenixʕ 14:42, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's been five years since I uploaded that image and I'm no longer the image expert I once was (not that I was ever much of an image expert in the first place). Do what you want, I no longer know nor care much about the latest version of The Rules on Wikipedia. --Deathphoenixʕ 17:25, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry. It's not about being disheartened, discouraged, or being "driven away" from Wikipedia. I'm practically retired from Wikipedia now (not from any one single event), but I've had my work ruthlessly critiqued enough for me over the years to be used to it. It's the ever-changing bureaucracy on Wikipedia that's annoying. While it can be necessary in some cases, nothing is more contentious and ever-changing than images and BLP. It wouldn't be as annoying or hard to follow if we didn't keep changing The Rules. --Deathphoenixʕ 18:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Excessively tight interpretation of fair use is something that sucks. With the image deleted as a fair use orphan, your actions are hard to review. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:06, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't follow you, I'm afraid: the image is still available at File:VC Beharry.jpg. Any feedback would be welcome, but I do not see how this image differs from any other privately-copyrighted image of a living public individual. --Kwekubo (talk) 06:23, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know where I am wrong. When you remove a fair use image from its only mainspace use, it will be automatically deleted about a week later. The original uploader usually gets notified, but if he doesn't notice, and page watchers don't notice, the image will be deleted without review. This time, the removal was noticed before the image was deleted.
Sure, the deleted image can be undeleted, or re-uploaded, but only by someone aware, interested, and with effort to spare.
Given these issues, I think, as a general principle, a more formal discussion (WP:FFD) should be required to have the image deleted than just a small edit by any editor.
This image is not just any old image. It is the image of the subject on the day of the award, an award that most prominently makes the subject notable. The image looks to be the closest thing to the an official image. There is no evidence of other photos, or likelihood that the copyright holder will release copyright before it expires. Another image of the individual sure exists, or could yet be created, but the interest here is not in the face of the individual, but in the awarding of a VC, and for that, no subsequently created image can be said to be a comparable replacement. Is there some formal definition of "irreplaceable" that I should know? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:46, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media
).
