Hi Lazytiger,

Thanks for your work on the drum and bugle corps and Drum Corps International pages. I have added some new comments to the former's talk page.

Best,

MattJ 20:21, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi,

Okay -- work's done on the drum and bugle corps page. The "modern" page probably needs some work now to drag it back from DCI back towards a more generic article, but it'll work for now. Please review all three articles in the chain and let me know what you think.

Best,

MattJ 17:38, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Greetings,

With Catherine's latest streak of vandalism on DCI/Drum Corps pages in general (check the histories), I was wondering if you and MattJ would be willing to seek arbitration in this issue. I'm of the opinion that Catherine thinks she can perpetuate biased views with impunity, and she'll continue a revert war as long as she can. Get back to me with your thoughts.

--Mr Bound 03:44, Dec 5, 2004 (UTC)

Mr. Bound, do you have an email address I can reach you at? You don't have to post it here; go to my website and email me. Thanks.

Lazytiger 14:02, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Lazytiger: I contacted you at your "speak" account from your site. Hope to hear back from you soon.

Catherine

So this is more than just a battle then... I can't actually understand what she's trying to say, and hence I can neither agree nor disagree with what she has said about DCI. I posted on the [drum corps international] discussion page, and would be interested to hear from anyone who can explain what this is all about. Funny topic for an encyclopedia :\ --Sbutler 21:22, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Heads up! The Cat is back! See the modern and classic pages for edits, reverts, and commentary! Things finally get fun again. --Mr Bound 01:02, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

I would like to invite you to join the newly formed WikiProject Drum Corps, a WikiProject for the expansion of all things drum corps. If you'd like, add your name to the list of members, and lend a hand in some of the things we have yet to do! There's plenty lying around, but even a small contibution is very welcome. Hope to see you lending your knowledge to our growing collection of drum corps articles! Mr Bound 18:50, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Strap It On (Helmet album)

I couldn't see what grounds you had for speedying this; I've made it a redirect. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:14, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • A redirect certainly isn't wrong, I'm just saying that this redirect isn't needed. Nothing points to it, and it seems unlikely that someone would type in exactly that article name. If it's not a problem for Wikipedia to be littered with unneeded redirects, so be it. — Lazytiger 18:01, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well, the slogan that's always trotted out here is "redirects are cheap"; also, though, speedy deletion can only be done when an article meets specific criteria. For this to be deleted, it would have to go through AfD — and it doesn't really seem worth it. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:44, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strap It On (album)

There are three problems with your addition. First, the Manual of Style dislikes the use of concealed links such as 1974; secondly, the infobox doesn't make clear what the two dates are, and the normal approach is to give original release dates, adding rereleases (if significant) in the body of the article; thirdly, dates should be given in Wikipedia format – e.g., 23 January 2006 – so that reader's preferences can format them correctly (in this case:

23 January 2006). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:42, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply
]

I couldn't agree more; I go along with linking years, etc., because I know that the links will be added by someone else anyway, but it usually seems pretty pointless. Wikipedians are split pretty even;y on the matter, I think; there have been many long debates on the issue. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:10, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marching percussion photos

Those all look great, keep me posted about the emails back from the staffs. I myself will be taking a couple of pictures of percussion equipment a week from now, I'll probably photograph on-and-off body, or on-stand and on-harness, see what all I can get, and then will put them on the Commons. This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Blue stars logo.jpg. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

That map is great. There really is nothing like it, even in antitrust docs. Can you direct me to your sources for the original borders? Thanks. Ckcarruthers 19:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the complement! I believe I used this map as a basis. The borders are only a rough view of reality; they're just broken down by state as they were originally assigned to the Baby Bells and it does not show any of the non-RBOCs, which do account for some large areas.—Lazytiger 20:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The naming of the entire system was in usage from 1963, so for 44 years the diplomas from the schools all said University of Missouri at the top and students on campus called their schools University of Missouri. Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline
is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Guest9999 (talk) 20:06, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you removed the no fair-use rationale and logo copyright tags from the image page. I'm not sure if that is really a satisfactory solution per
WP:NFCC and as I am not an expert on such matters have brought up the issue here. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 03:29, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply

No harm done. Speaking of en dashes, though, I see you're an alumnus and active author of the

Requested page move

Hey, I know you don't want to get into it again about the name change, so hopefully this will go one way or the other without much trouble. I certainly wasn't going to bring it up again, but the issue keeps coming up, and so I'm going to examine it one more time. I let all the old folks know about the new discussion (including Altari and anybody else who commented in Archive 2). Do me one favor and examine everything again and let me know if there is any likelihood of another change of opinion, because that could effectively put an end to any more debate. I'm going to stay away from too many my facts/your facts debates because I feel like we've all had enough of that. Anyways, here we go again. -Grey Wanderer | Talk 21:43, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MU MOS

What do you think about adding University of Missouri–Columbia back into the article along with Mizzou and MU in the first sentence. I think the name still has enough pull to warrant that. Also do you think it would be a good idea on the category renaming to get a bot on the task. Perhaps it could tackle all the messed up categories from both the UMR→Missouri S&T renaming and the –Columbia→University of Missouri one. Grey Wanderer | Talk 20:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to be all-or-nothing about such things, keep it nice and clean, etc. But, yes, it probably would be appropriate to include it in the parenthetical with Mizzou and MU. I don't think we need to worry about involving a bot to move the categories; only admins can move categories (not sure why that is... policy? software limitation?) so let them decide how to do it. Just be sure to make them aware of all your concerns.—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 21:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I phrased that poorly. I should have said: If the category is removed, there are thousands of articles particularly the alumni and faculty articles that will need to have the category they are in changed. I don't think that happens automatically (I could be wrong). Also only admins can move a cat because there is potential for serious side-effects if a vandal moves Category:People from Missouri to Category:Fuck that displays "fuck" on an awful lot of pages. Grey Wanderer | Talk 21:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, gotcha. I'm not sure whether subcategories are automatically fixed or not. Automatic in the sense of an admin will do it along with the cat change. From my limited experience with cat changes, I believe they (the admins) do fix the included articles. But maybe that's totally dependent on whether the admin remembers or feels like doing it. Regardless of whether it's us or an admin, absolutely we'd want a bot to do it! I've never used a bot before, so that's all you.—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 21:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issue

No problem. I think I can explain it a little better than was put on the MU logo. In short, letters cannot be copyrighted. Neither can phrases or simple shapes. This is an outline of two letters and cannot be copyrighted under U.S. law. I can refer you to a few places, but I think the simplest explanation is that MU wouldn't even want a copyright if they could get one. Copyrights eventually run out, but trademarks can last forever. They can protect this logo from illegal use in association with their school forever, but at the same time, not spend inordinate amounts of time/money to protect it through a copyright process. That doesn't mean there aren't restrictions on it, but the image isn't copyrighted either. For its intended use here, it is fine. I'd be happy to explain far more in depth later, but I need sleep for an upcoming checkride. Here's a quick read Night! — BQZip01 — talk 06:42, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note; I can see you've certainly thought this through and I assume have edited many other wordmark logos on Wikipedia. Your rationale is good enough for me.—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 06:08, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lazytiger, You uploaded this seal File:University of Missouri seal bw.svgand the UMKC logo to the English Wikipedia. Do you think they could be uploaded to Commons, so I can use them for the German UMKC article? Thanks for an early answer. --Hans555 (talk) 08:02, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Hans. It's fine with me for the files to be posted wherever, but I was just looking at the upload rules for Wiki Commons and it looks like you're not supposed to upload anything that's copyrighted, even for fair use. I think you'll have to copy the images to the German Wikipedia. Sorry!—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 00:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
