@ThylacineHunter: Thanks for providing these info. I am aware that the name change did not occur until 2000, which is why I put "(government operator)" within those operator tables to distinguish from the post-privatisation entities. It also appears that PTC was only split into those operations on 1 July 1998 as opposed to the October 1997 date that was used across Wikipedia. See this report from the Institue of Public Affairs. Thanks you for those, I was unaware of those. I also didn't know the the Met ones were a year later than V/Line ones. I'll do some more research into this, but I'm happy to change it to 1998 as those documents are reliable.

@ThylacineHunter: Now that I know that PTC was split up on 1 July 1998 and not October 1997, this meant Bayside Trains did not operate Stony Point at all (I previously thought they operated it between October 1997 and July 1998 but this was not possible). I have a published book saying the trams were rebranded in 1997, but it may be incorrect if it is based on the incorrect info from here.

I may have found something relating to the split of the trams: Yarra Trams article. "Met Tram 1" and "Met Tram 2" may be the names from 1997 to 1998. If so, I'd guess at "Met Train 1" and "Met Train 2" as potential names for Bayside / Hillside. I will nee to head into the railway library to have a look at some publications from 1997/98.

I have just acquired some 1997/1998 Newsrail magazines. Here is when the following became seperate corporations:

• V/Line Freight, Victorian Rial Track Corporation (VRT) (trading as Vic Track Access) was on 1 July 1997
• V/Line Passenger, Hillside, Bayside, Swanston and Yarra was on 1 July 1998

Turns out Stony Point was also covered in Newsrail September 1998. "On 1 July 1998, operation of the Stony Point line passed from V/Line to Bayside Trains" taken from Newsrail September 1998, page 266, article title: Change in Management of Stony Point Service, by C Banger.
