It’s ok, I have a thicker skin than some around these parts. But it would have been nice to be advised that I was named and mentioned in this hilarity and had been given opportunity to comment. It opened at 12.15am today and was closed at 3.48 am (my time) so I was asleep and therefore had no opportunity to contribute my 2c.

Funny thing is I got alerts notifying me that there were editors (who I have never ever interacted with) who took the trouble to thank me for my edit at the RfA page. They clearly saw that what some say was a snide remark was a harmless dig at unmistakable hypocrisy. Funny how people react sometimes. The silly season gets earlier every year. Thanks for the offer Schwede, but I've decided to stop uploading images. I'm too chronologically challenged to put up with the hassles that always seem to surround images/commons. I uploaded an image of a stamp which I photographed, showing Francis Chichester who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for becoming the first person to sail single-handed around the world by the clipper route, and the fastest circumnavigator. He was also an aviator and the stamp I uploaded was issued by Norfolk Island and showed Chichester approaching the island in his Gipsy Moth on a historic flight. But no, someone found a reason why it should get zapped. Don't remember exactly what it was, but I simply was not prepared to debate for commonsense with a commons person. I also uploaded an image of a stamp featuring our Scott Dixon, issued by New Zealand Post for its Champions Of World Motorsport series. Same result -- down the gurgler. Plus others too. I uploaded three images last week, and after doing so, I thought to myself, no more, can't take the risk of deletion anymore, hence I am retiring the 500D. My blood pressure is dropping already. Hi Moriori. Just to fill in. I intend to use James Leasor's 1975 work Green Beach as the backbone source for the article. It will initially suffer from relying on a single source I know, but it will be a start I think for a worthy subject. There appears to be other material that I am coming across. I need a photo too. This will be my first article. I have always wanted to create a fully fashioned article with all sections in place, not just a stub. Equally I have always been somehow intimidated by the prospect of creating an article. Dunno why. Fear of my incompetence being exposed probably. After I can surmount this rather odd phobia I assume the others will be easier, and I have at least half a dozen interesting and untouched subjects in mind. I will keep you updated.

Reviewing your blocking log, I must say, with all due respect, you might be a little harsh with the block button. You've been around for quite a while so maybe policies have changed, not sure, for instance disruption from this this IP extended no more than 15 minutes but you blocked the IP indefinitely. First off, in general we never indefinitely block IPs. See Wikipedia:Vandalism-only account#IP addresses; IPs are not accounts and cannot be treated as such. Unless there's a lengthy history of disruption, you should assume someone innocent will eventually come by and edit behind that IP. So start with the standard 31 hour block, then if they continue to disrupt try a week, month, and so forth. Jumping to lengthy durations seems punitive and is contrary to the open philosophy of the wiki. Also only use options like "Block user from sending email" if they abused that privilege. Overall I recommend giving Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Blocking a read. Again, please don't be offended, I'm only trying to help. I am sure you mean no harm, and I hope this friendly advice finds you well — MusikAnimal ^talk 04:52, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

I read the reason was there weren't enough references online to establish notability.

I got in touch with Justlettersandnumbers and she/he informed me I could request a WP:deletion review with the reason "significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify recreating the deleted page." At the Deletion Review article, I read I should talk to the closing administrator first.

• An RfC has clarified that user categories should be emptied upon deletion, but redlinked user categories should not be removed if re-added by the user.
• Discussions are ongoing regarding proposed changes to the COI policy. Changes so far have included clarification that adding a link on a Wikipedia forum to a job posting is not a violation of the harassment policy.

• You can now see a list of all autoblocks at Special:AutoblockList.
• There is a new tool for adding archives to dead links. Administrators are able to restrict other user's ability to use the tool, and have additional permissions when changing URL and domain data.
• Administrators, bureaucrats and stewards can now set an expiry date when granting user rights. (discuss, permalink)

Miscellaneous

• Following an RfC, the editing restrictions page is now split into a list of active restrictions and an archive of those that are old or on inactive accounts. Make sure to check both pages if searching for a restriction.

I'm not claiming that the wave is somehow "unique", but that it's a part of the culture there. The link indicates that it's part of the culture there (which was the point), and something the locals are keen to preserve. I know there are other links/citations which say the same, but I'm still hunting for those and will add them when I get the chance. The fact that people in rural communities tend to wave to each other is neither here nor there, as the article doesn't say it's unique and neither does the reference. The link provided does in fact mention the fact that the Islanders are descended from the population of Pitcairn, but since that wasn't the issue there, it's irrelevant to the point - there are plenty of references elsewhere in the article regarding the Pitcairners. Which is why there's not an article on it by itself. I would suggest that if the custom is something the locals are particularly fond of and keen to preserve (on a recent visit there, there was a much stronger focus on what they do differently from the Australian mainland, although personal experience doesn't count as a source), that makes it at least slightly notable. This is to inform you that an attempt is being made to overturn an RfC that you voted on (2 RfCs, actually, one less than six months ago and another a year ago). The new RfC is at:

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#RfC: Allow private schools to be characterized as non-affiliated as well as religious, in infobox?

Specifically, it asks that "religion = none" be allowed in the infobox.

The first RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:

• 15 June 2015 RfC: RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

The result of that RfC was "unambiguously in favour of omitting the parameter altogether for 'none' " and despite the RfC title, additionally found that "There's no obvious reason why this would not apply to historical or fictional characters, institutions etc.", and that nonreligions listed in the religion entry should be removed when found "in any article".

The second RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:

• 31 December 2015 RfC: RfC: Religion in infoboxes.

The result of that RfC was that the "in all Wikipedia articles, without exception, nonreligions should not be listed in the Religion= parameter of the infobox.".

Hello Moriori,

I was the person who was suggesting that the phrase "alternative medicine" and "psuedo medicine" be removed from "Osteopathy". I appreciate your edits, but I wanted to explain why I would like those terms removed even though the rest of the article does explain osteopathy is different from osteopathic medicine.

The concept of osteopathy cannot be completely separate from osteopathic medicine. Let's talk about osteopathic manipulation first. I am a medical student at a D.O school, and I don't believe that osteopathic manipulation works all the time. But extensive research is being done to find out how much of it is supported by evidence. There are some evidence that some components have therapeutic value and some don't. Therefore, I don't think osteopathic manipulation is alternative medicine or pseudoscience. Now let's talk about osteopathy. Frequently at school people use the word osteopathy, so I had no idea that "osteopathy" was different from "osteopathic medicine" untill I saw that there were two separate articles on Wikipedia. If a osteopathic medicine school used the terms interchangeably, I could only imagine a lay person confusing the two. Therefore, using the tag "alternative medicine and pseudo medicine" damages the reputation of osteopathic medicine and the descriptions are not even true. I hope you could consider keeping the terms "alternative medicine and pseudo medicine" out of this article. Thank you.

Guideline and policy news

• Following a successful proposal to create it, a new user right called "edit filter helper" is now assignable and revocable by administrators. The right allows non-administrators to view the details of private edit filters, but not to edit them.
• Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.

• You can now search for IP ranges at Special:Contributions. Some log pages and Special:DeletedContributions are not yet supported. Wildcards (e.g. 192.168.0.*) are also not supported, but the popular contribsrange gadget will continue to work.

• Community consultation on the 2017 candidates for CheckUser and Oversight has concluded. The Arbitration Committee will appoint successful candidates by October 11.

• The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team is creating an "Interaction Timeline" tool that intends to assist administrators in resolving user conduct disputes. Feedback on the concept may be posted on the talk page.
• A new function is now available to edit filter managers that will make it easier to look for multiple strings containing spoofed text.

Arbitration

• Eligible editors will be invited to submit candidate statements for the 2017 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 12 until November 21. Voting will begin on November 27 and last until December 10.
• Following a request for comment, Ritchie333, Yunshui and Ymblanter will serve as the Electoral Commission for the 2017 ArbCom Elections.

Obituaries

• The Wikipedia community has recently learned that Allen3 (William Allen Peckham) passed away on December 30, 2016, the same day as JohnCD. Allen began editing in 2005 and became an administrator that same year.

Hope you remember me, the odd editor from Jayne Mansfield. Twofingered Typist has finished a thorough copy-edit of the article. Very nice job. (S)he left a few comments and observations. I haven't seen many high capacity editors interested in the article so far, and you have given me a hope in that regard. Can you, if you have time, take a look at the observations on the talk page? The link in the first sentence does not go to a first history of homosexuality in Great Britain and Ireland, or to the book The Other Love. It goes to a redirect to a Wiki list which is hardly the same thing. Another point, the paragraph is missing references.

You surprise me. This article has an intro which says a woman from Vancouver was found dead in a Los Angelus hotel. The background section doesn't explain when she left her home, why she did so, or what she planned to do. Essential to a well rounded, informative article IMMHO.
