Michael Power
Hi, PRB. I just noticed that you had cut a bit from the
- I don't dispute the factual content of the statement. The modified statement was
- "Assignment is a typical action film, save that it was shot on location in Cameroon and Nigeria using African actors and crews."
- Which I changed to:
- Assignment, shot on location in Cameroon and Nigeria, is a typical action film
- I altered this because:
- It states earlier in the section that the Michael Power films "are also notable because the advertisements are shot on location in Africa using African actors and crews"
- While it is true that the lion's share of action films are shot using principally American participants, to say that it a film is typical of its genre apart from the fact that it was made by Africans grates a little. The continent of residence of the participants doesn't in itself change the nature of the film, it is still just a "typical action film". What was there before was like saying "E=mc2 is a typical mathematical equation, save for the fact that it was originally written in America by a Jew.". If you mean to say that the use of purely African cast and crew brought with it some interesting cultural feature, then say so.PRB 16:22, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
- I see your point. The real significance is that, as you say, very few big-budget action films are made with African casts and crews. By calling the film "typical" I mean that the plot, characters, explosions, etc. are standard for the genre. I've had another go at it; please check it out when you get the chance. —BrianSmithson 17:05, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

How to make a page in a different language?
If I create a page in English, how can I transfer that page to another language. Do you have to go to the "other language" wikipedia and make the article completely new again or how does that work? I am fluent in other languages, but I don't know if there is a different way to go abot that or not? Can you write your respnse back on my page, thanks!Motorex (talk) 11:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

IPA
Hi,
If you want to indicate local pronunciations, as at Cheshire, that's fine, but you need to mark them as local. When we indicate English pronunciations without any further clarification, they're just English, not any particular dialect. (And actually, is all of Cheshire non-rhotic?) — kwami (talk) 03:48, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- For many words, you can't indicate pronunciations without any particular dialect. Both RP (i.e. Standard English) and most of the accents of North West of England are non-rhotic. Rhotic accents of English That's two reasons not to put the /r/ on the end. I'm moving this to the Cheshire Discussion page where it is more appropriate PRB (talk) 07:41, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- If you speak a non-rhotic accent, then you simply drop the ars. Problem solved. But not everyone in the world speaks a non-rhotic accent, in many place names the ars are not predictable, and WP-en is for all English speakers, not just non-rhotic speakers. Ergo we need to include the ars. Also, some non-rhotic accents have ars in this name. RP, for example. Okay, I know hardly anyone actually speaks RP any more, but it's still a prestige form. An argument that "some people in Cheshire have a rhotic accent, and RP has /r/ in this name, but we need to drop the /r/ because I don't have it in my dialect" doesn't hold water. You might want to read the IPA key you're linking to so that you know how this works. — kwami (talk) 08:42, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
