A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Congratulations on improving Wikipedia thus far! Your work is definitely not going unnoticed. Panini! 🥪 14:30, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
I see that you are now also dealing with vandalism. If you have any questions about what to do in certain vandalism cases, you can ask the experts at the
Counter-Vandalism Unit. Panini! 🥪
14:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks very much, Panini, for the barnstar and all your help as well! I will definitely need to check that out. Perfect4th (talk) 14:56, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Although you may have noticed this already, fighting vandalism isn't the, well, friendliest environment. Just remember that anything said to you should not be taken personally. Panini! 🥪 01:42, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
Indeed! It's a lot more fun when it leads to welcoming new editors, but I suppose both sides are necessary to keep the encyclopedia running. Perfect4th (talk) 02:10, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

Surprised I have to tell you about LangVar

WP:LANGVAR exists and "equalled" is not a grammar issue, it is the correct British spelling if the word. Walter Görlitz (talk
) 17:31, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

I did think it was correct as it was, but the reviewer said it should be changed, so I went ahead and did so; I haven't done much in the GA area yet, so I wasn't sure how such issues are typically handled. Thanks for remedying that and letting me know! Perfect4th (talk) 19:19, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
@Perfect4th, when the GA reviewer is incorrect about a policy, or you simply are against what they're suggesting to change, politely refer to them about said policy or justify your reason for opposing the comment. In this situation, they were incorrect and WP:LANGVAR applies. Panini! 🥪 20:29, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
(And don't worry about not knowing every policy and making a few mistakes. I learned about
WP:CIR just a month back.) Panini! 🥪
20:33, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! That's good to know, I still have a lot to learn. :) Perfect4th (talk) 22:40, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Question

How do I ban a user if they do not stop messing up articles? 67.173.50.123 (talk) 21:47, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Only administrators can block or ban users. However, you can report them to
WP:AIV (often done if vandalism/disruptive editing occurs after the fourth warning), and an administrator will see the message and carry out any necessary actions (such as blocking). Perfect4th (talk

Jay_Spearing

Hi, I notice you did a massive revert on this article, and frankly, quite rightly so. I had simultaneously found it, and panicked and asked at TeaHouse what's appropriate in such a case. One of the editors looks like a CoI, and the rest are just creating chaos with endless unsourced or dubious additions. If they'd been multiple IP's I'd have asked for it to be semi-protected, but they're named users. What's the correct thing to do? Reverting makes sense, but I have no idea how you encourage people to stop messing about?? Any advice gratefully received, in case I encounter such a thing again in future. Elemimele (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi,
autoconfirmed (as a matter of fact I was contemplating doing just that). You can also warn users as necessary, but with the volume of editors on that page today it would take a while to get through them all. Perfect4th (talk
) 22:30, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I have done. What on earth is going on there? Everyone seems out to add weird text. Elemimele (talk) 22:39, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure. It would seem odd that so many editors would pick the same random article to disrupt on the same day. Two of them went to Elliott Nevitt after I restored Jay Spearing, but I'm not seeing any further disruption since the last group of edits + reverts, so hopefully it's stopped now. Some snacks for the road (not real snacks)

Since you are interested in helping newcomers, here is what you can do to advance up the totem pole (Wikipedia is not a hierarchy so don't get ahead of yourself):

  • Become a Teahouse Host! - You have been around for a while, have passed the 500 contributions limit 4 times over, and you have a very low revert rate. I can see that you are friendly with newcomers and although you don't have all of the answers, you do know where said answers can be found. I can easily say you qualify to be a Teahouse Host and you should consider becoming one. You may also want to frequent Wikipedia talk:Teahouse for any host info that applies to you.
  • User Adoption, which is what you just graduated from - All of my judgment above applies (basically, to help users you need to have a grasp of Wikipedia and it's policies and be friendly, that's all). I would suggest starting with one adoptee at a time and gradually raising the amount over time if you so choose.
  • WT:GTF
    .

And, of course, you can still come to me if you have any questions. Once again, congrats! Panini! 🥪 12:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Many, many thanks, Panini! It's been a blast! Perfect4th (talk) 14:05, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Dear Perfect4th,

Thank you for volunteering as a Host at the Teahouse. Wikipedia is a community of people working together to make knowledge free. You are an important part of that effort! By joining as a Host, and by following our expectations, you are helping new users to get started here at Wikipedia, and aiding more experienced users who just have a question about how something works. We appreciate your willingness to help!

Here are some links you may find helpful as a Host:

Patrolling

Thanks so much for RC patrolling. I just wanted to call your attention to a relatively common scam by ill intentioned users that you might not be aware of. Have a look at the history for Depp v News Group Newspapers Ltd. See how there's a bunch of content added by one IP editor, then an obvious vandalism edit by another IP? That's designed to trick you into reverting the obvious vandalism and leaving the rest of the recent edits. If you look at the edits by the first IP that I removed, they're an even worse form of unsourced/poorly sourced edit. It's good practice to glance down at the rest of the history when you're reverting obvious vandalism, just to make sure this isn't happening. Thanks again for your hard work! agtx 00:25, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip! I've done that a couple times, but didn't realize it was so common. I'll need to pay attention to that! Perfect4th (talk) 00:29, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

APPLICATION FOR MENTORSHIP

I am looking for a mentor. I see you're taking in adoptees. I wanna go through a course under your tutelage for a period of time that you determine for a counter vandalism course and/or a course on proper page creation. After which I will be given rollback and/or new page reviewer privileges. I'm reaching out to you because I wanna do this the proper way. It will be a honor to learn. Cheers Amaekuma (talk) 17:14, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Amaekuma! I see you've put this request on several users' talk pages. Please only use one request at a time, as multiple can be confusing for those requested as well as those requesting. I believe Rosguill is currently unavailable for adoption, but I see you asked Justiyaya first, as well as FormalDude, so I will let them respond first; if neither of them do so, I would be willing to discuss adoption with you. In the meantime, be patient, as they will respond when they can. Best, Perfect4th (talk) 17:19, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks Amaekuma (talk) 17:22, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

@Perfect4th Okay. Amaekuma (talk) 17:23, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

No problem, Amaekuma! In the meantime, you may want to start looking though the pages of Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy and Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School. These two are courses in counter-vandalism and reviewing pages that you can take. You will probably want to talk to potential trainers for those eventually, but you should see what the adopters you reached out to say before you do. Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 17:30, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay. I'm on it @Perfect4th Amaekuma (talk) 17:48, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Okay, Amaekuma, it looks like the users you contacted are not available for adoption, so let me list some resources before I discuss with you more.
  • You said you want to take a counter vandalism course. The best resource you will find for this is the Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy. You should read the homepage, as it lists what the program is designed for; if that sounds like what you're looking for, then you will want to go ahead and look at the list of trainers. Two of them indicate that they don't have any open slots, so you will want to contact either Cassiopeia or Pahunkat (I'd recommend Cassiopeia first as Pahunkat hasn't edited in a while); ask on their talk page if they'll be willing to take you on as a Counter-Vandalism Academy student.
  • As for learning proper page creation, a good place for that is New pages patrol/School, mentioned earlier. It doesn't necessarily teach you how to create pages, but it will teach you how to review them. Read the main page for it and then check the list of trainers; as Rosguill has declined to for now, you would want to check with either Cassiopeia again or Atsme. However, you should note that this school requires more experience than the CVUA, and Rosguill does not think you are yet ready; you should probably focus on the CVUA first and later check back in with NPP School.
So I would recommend that after you read the pages I linked you to, you check in on Cassiopeia's talk page. Ask about the Counter-Vandalism Academy and mention that you are interested in NPP school as well, but might not be experienced enough yet; that way Cassiopeia knows you are interested in it and can help you when you are ready.
Since those are the two things you are most interested in, I should add that those aren't my areas of expertise. I've done some counter-vandalism but not the course, and I've not done NPP school either. I think it would make more sense for you to go through those schools in the capacity they already have, without me as an extra point of reference; adoption is intended as a main point of reference with a more experienced user to guide you, and if you're mainly involved in projects with other users, it doesn't make as much sense. That's not to say it's a bad thing; it just doesn't quite fit your personal purposes. Should you still wish to be adopted, I can discuss it with you, but I wouldn't suggest it. You are still welcome to drop by if you have questions either way, though :). Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 23:22, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

@Perfect4th Thanks for your guidance, it is appreciated. I have been reading the materials you recommended. I should be done reading by Tuesday and ready to take the next step Amaekuma (talk) 21:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, need help tagging

Hello @

Hi, Amaekuma! You can tag the page with the template More citations needed by typing this text at the top of the article and clicking publish changes: {{More citations needed|date=May 2022}}. Alternatively, if you have Twinkle, you can click "Tag" under the TW tab, scroll to the ''Verifiability and sources'' heading, and select the box for 'more citations needed' and submit the query. A full list of article-related templates can be found here. Let me know if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 19:36, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Date and Year articles

Hi. You are probably not aware that all entries in this type of article require a citation to back up the date. We're trying to clean them up but it's a very slow process so please don't accept edits like this one. Thanks in anticipation. Deb (talk) 07:53, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for responding to the Teahouse question about talk page notifications. Hi, Silpante Garg R mark, and welcome to Wikipedia!
