]- Hello PamD & DeFacto no intention here whatsoever to add bad info on to Wiki - Mortimer was born in 1965 - apologies that it's taken some time to find an authoritative source (now provided); but it would appear that this article was badly written from the start. Compared with other MPs' articles this one doesn't read well - looks more like snippets from campaign literature! Primm1234 (talk) 14:24, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- See WP:BLPPRIMARY which instructs editors not to use public records in this way. And the fact that a "Jillian W. Sowerby" was born in Leeds around the right year is not evidence that this was the person in question, in any case. If you can find a published source which states her year of birth and birth name, then please add them. As for "Compared with other MPs' articles ...": this woman has been an MP for 5 days. All other MPs have been around considerably longer. That fact explains a lot. Be patient. PamD 15:37, 11 May 2021 (UTC)]
- WP:BLPPRIMARY is very clear - but first and foremost Wiki should be corrected: (born 1964 or 1965) is wrong. Seems the evidence so far refers to a 56-year old? By my maths, should therefore state 1965 or 1966... How silly is this, not being able to correct Wiki?! Primm1234 (talk) 01:52, 12 May 2021 (UTC)]
No: either her 56th birthday was earlier in 2021, giving 1965, or her 57th birthday is later in 2021, giving 1964. Difficult to get one's head round so safer to use the template which does the arithmetic. PamD 04:24, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Hugh Elliott
Hi! Parts of your recent edits to
- Hey Gazamp - thanks your note & let's get this Hugh Elliott article up to speed and properly referenced. The best references to verify his DOB are to be found in Who's Who and Burke's Peerage but these publications can only be viewed in book form or by online subscription. I also see reference to Elliott's DOB and marriage at http://www.thepeerage.com/p12604.htm#i126036 but (despite this source being widely cited in other Wikipedia articles) now doesn't seem acceptable. Some typos re. his surname have also crept in - it should ofc be Elliott. His wife's appellidos are Martín y Elena (or more commonly in modern-day Spanish, Martín Elena, or just Martín, qv. https://www.revistavanityfair.es/articulos/la-fiesta-del-embajador-britanico-en-espana-en-honor-a-isabel-ii).
- Also, whereas the Wiki article rather blandly states "Previous to this, he was Director for Communications at the Department for Exiting the European Union", qv. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/director-of-international-agreements-at-the-fco-visits-chile.es-419 wherein it states his diplomatic (& no doubt, language) skills helped a great deal in smoothing the UK's transition from the EU after Brexit. Agreed, unsure how one would want put this, but it's not conveyed in the article. Here to help - please advise & muchas gracias.
- Saludos - Primm1234
- Hi! Sorry for not replying sooner, I didn't see this. First off, Who's Who is not used as a reference because of its 'poor editorial standards' (see WP:RSPfor details). The peerage website you give is also not used, as that is self-published and so not reliable. I'm chasing down a version of Burke's at the moment so I can have a look.
- With regards to the gov.uk source you provide, I don't think there is much to add to the article. Wikipedia needs to have a neutral point of view, and what is already on the page explains Elliott's role sufficiently in my opinion.
- I've also just taken off a certain amount of your recent additions. A lot of the references you put on had very little relation to the sentences you were adding them to, and a few didn't mention Elliott at all. Please take care when adding content to make sure it is actually verified by the sources you are providing. Additionally, have a look at Template:Cite web on how to format citations well - it really helps with making sure Wikipedia is stable and means less work for other editors.
- If you need any help or have anything to say, just ping me by putting {{ping|Gazamp}} at the beginning of your message. Thanks, Gazamp (talk) 20:20, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

- @BoyTheKingCanDance:. Many thanks for your helpful comments.
- My thinking behind creating Mr Councilman Griffiths’ page was that many other Common Councilman (several seemingly less notable) have Wikipedia entries – my apologies should I have done the wrong thing, but I get where you’re coming from on this.
- Dunno whether my edits now getting flagged up for attention, but perhaps you could guide me as to why my improvements (so I thought!) to Scooby Doo in particular being a work of his that resonates with me)! Was it random that his entry should have a general notability tagbeing added, or is it justified?
- Much obliged to have a clearer understanding & many thanks for your guidance so far – much appreciated.

- I saw you reverted my previous modifications to the article about Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, which were made in good faith but I do understand that they were overlinked. Perhaps you will allow me to make a simplified version of those alterations? and, in the spirit of Wikipedian collaboration, let me advise you in advance what they are to be:
- 2nd para: amend “assumed” to “succeeded to” (assumed could imply his succession to the hereditary peerage titles was in some way unlawful)
- Early Life
- Link to Lady Margaret Bridgeman (so that Wiki readers can easily see who she was)
- Education and career
- 1st para: amend “promoted” to “proceeded” (correct Oxbridge terminology)
- Activities
- No mention of his being Patron of the Society of Antiquaries of London (and elected FSA) since 2001 – so reinstate this, which ties in with his passion for architecture, one of the Society of Antiquaries principal areas of interest being archeology (let me reinstate but no probs if you wish to reword or put somewhere else)...
- Arms
- Notes: amend “different” to “differenced” (correct heraldic terminology)
- Other elements: link to “Label” (to help readers know what a "Point" is) & likewise “augment”
- I trust you will find these modifications helpful and to your satisfaction.
- Looking forward to hearing – many thanks.

Earl of Lincoln
Thank you for your appreciation of my heraldic art.
Do you have a source for the blazon you quoted? When I look in recent editions of Debrett's Peerage I do not see the earl described or illustrated as using quartered arms, even if he may be entitled to them. Robin S. Taylor (talk) 19:57, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Dear Robin S. Taylor
- Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Indeed your heraldic art is to be much admired among which I noted Lord Alvanley's arms:
- which, although not the same as those of Lord Lincoln, comprise some similar elements.
- Rob Fiennes-Clinton, aka the 19th Earl of Lincoln, is an acquaintance (via my Egerton-Warbuton rellies, as they like to say in Oz!). I can assure you His Lordship is quite chilled about responding to Debrett's or other such questionnaires, although he did petition the Crown Office via the College of Arms, so as to be ready somewhat optimistically! just in case any all-House hereditary peers' by-election(s) to the House of Lords crop up...
- If you don't mind, let me cut'n'past as follows the latest updated LINCOLN, E pedigree (clipped as too big to send in full) from Burke's online:
- (Redacted)
- As you can see, Burke's is yet to produce an illustration of the present Earl of Lincoln's arms (which is where a line-drawing could come in handy, if that's possible, in keeping with Burke's house style). In fact, any representation of these arms would be progress!
- Hope of help & glad of some interest - looking forward to hearing further.
