Welcome to the Article Rescue Squad!

Hi, Scythre, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Glad you can join us. I personally know how frustrating it can be to have editors delete contributions I have worked so hard on. I have been on wikipedia for 4 years, I would like to think that I know how wikipedia really works. If you have ANY question no matter how small or trivial, please, please, don't hesitate to ask me. I think it is important, very important to keep editors like you on wikipedia, and provide a enjoyable experience here. I am really happy you are here.

Universal Converter

hi I have created the discussion/talk page

Thanks for guiding. I am new to wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki1985contribute (talkcontribs) 10:25, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

i have added more reliable links. how to add screen shot of software in softwre infobox. it doesn't show images in preview when i put an image link such as http://...some site..../screenshot.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki1985contribute (talkcontribs) 13:02, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Ok, a few basic things first. When you write on a talk page, try and keep it all in one spot. Put : to do a new column under your old piece of text like I have formatted, in future. Also, after writing on a talk page, remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (these things: ~) or press the little signature button up the top [2]. Now, back to the issue at hand, you need to upload a screenshot if you want one; you can't just link the website. There is a 'Upload File' link in the left hand menu which you can use. Save the picture of the screenshot and upload, but remember, images with any license restricting commercial use or the creation of derivative works may not be used on Wikipedia. Plus, you have to have an autoconfirmed account, meaning at least four days old and at least ten edits. Hope it helped, --ScythreTalkContribs 13:13, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I have added more links to the article "Universal Converter". won't be editing this article further. Please see if it is good enough for posting. thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki1985contribute (talkcontribs) 13:54, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Please put new text under old text, relevant to the topic, and please, please, remember to sign your posts. --ScythreTalkContribs 13:59, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

sorry i posted this message on wrong place somewhere in "speedy tag deletion" on your page. I am an idiot. wiki is hard to learn. Wiki1985contribute (talk) 14:04, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Speedy tagging

Hey there. I noticed an article you tagged (it was an article in a diff language) did not send a speedy notification message to the creator of the article. I am not sure what you use to enter in speedy tags (either automatic or manual) but maybe you should consider a tool that you can click on the page, then click on the CSD of choice which would then notify the users as well. It is faster and gives them a chance to respond (the tools to let you do this are on the "my preferences" tab on the top right hand corner). Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 11:42, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the advice. I actually wrongly tagged the article, as I use NPWatcher to do it and speedied it as A2, when A2 is a different reason. Kind regards, --ScythreTalkContribs 11:46, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
actualluy, it was a brand new article, started only two minutes earlier. You should have given the editor a chance to add the content. As reviewing administrator, I declined to delete it, and added an {{underconstruction}} tqag, which gives the editor 5 days to do so. DGG ( talk ) 17:13, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
I think we're talking about different articles here. I know which one you're talking about DGG, but which one are you talking about Calaka? --ScythreTalkContribs 17:24, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

well, the one I had in mind was
WP:BEFORE for some of the possibilities.). Then we are likely to gain one or two new editors, instead of losing them all. We need new people--people just like you. If you have questions about anything at any time, please feel free to ask me on my talk p. DGG ( talk

Tagging

Hi, I wanted to tell you that I changed a tag on an article that you tagged here with a db-bio tag when the title specifically stated that the article was about a street.--Terrillja talk 21:00, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

I tagged it under A7 because its a non notable street, and there's no SD option for streets/towns/buildings. I would prefer if it was restored or patrolled with a more relevant tag. Regards, --ScythreTalkContribs 21:05, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
I have never used NPW, but db-bio is not the same as a general A7. If all else fails, roll up your sleeves and use {{db|non-notable street etc...}} The tools can only do so much. Feel free to retag with an applicable db tag if you would prefer to speedy the article.--Terrillja talk 21:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Archiving

Yes thanks! I'd like it archived, though I am unaware of how to do so. Scythian1 (talk) 23:59, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

It looks like you used rollback to undo an edit that was not vandalism, which is not a good thing. Second, "never" implies finality, while "has not" more clearly conveys that she "has not" remarried to date; we can't say whether she "never" will, as we can't predict the future. user:J aka justen (talk) 16:42, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I just figured that 'has not' sounded wrong in the situation, but you're much more experienced than me. --ScythreTalkContribs 18:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Questions

The only things I can think of at the moment are:

  1. If I were to scan a picture from a book and upload it does that meet the fair usage policy?
  2. Can I use references from archives that aren't publicly accessible?
Cynical and Skeptical (talk) 21:03, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I'm quite a noob here myself, so they're quite difficult questions :L But I'll give em a shot :)
I actually scanned a picture and uploaded it, which can be found here, and some useful links might be
this
.
As to your second question, what do you exactly mean by the term archives that aren't publicly accessible? --ScythreTalkContribs 21:25, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

I mean, university archives, some of them require a reference letter from a college lecturer, which means they are fairly hard for the general public to get into, would it be ok to use material that only in there? Cynical and Skeptical (talk) 21:41, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Thats a tough one. I would recommend looking
here. If that doesnt answer it, I shall call on my friends for answers :) What's your name btw? --ScythreTalkContribs

Hello!

Hello! Always great to see someone who uses a Mac and has similar interests! What do you like to read? LovesMacs (talk) 00:30, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

I actually run on a PC, with Windows, but I adore Macs and hope to get one for Christmas. I like to read mainly fantasy books, but the occasional thriller is also good. How about you? :) --ScythreTalkContribs 06:12, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Whoops! (the plural of whoop, becuase in this case I think multiple whoops are involved)

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! In answer to your question, The menu thingy was designed by a friend of mine who did an amazing job with my userpage, but I've seen them or variations of them on some other people's pages too- User:Roux, for example. Also, some users keep shops where they offer to install userpage designs or decorations in exchange for a certain number of productive edits.

And your other question: YES! I want to archive! I need to archive! The scrollbar on my screen when viewing my talkpage is much too small! That is unacceptable!! I'm not making much sense!!

So, yes. How can I do it? A little insignificant Talk to me! (I have candy!) 19:43, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks anyway. I think I'll stick to mine for a while, but thanks for the links. I can archive it for you if you like; I'm skilled in archiving. You can message me whenever you want it archiving again :) --ScythreTalkContribs 19:52, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
