Spell correction

Hi Sellyme,

While I appreciate your spelling correction in St._Thomas_Higher_Secondary_School,_Kozhencherry I intentionally left it since the title of the web page contains 'Heigher'. I just modified the reference while you were editing (there was an edit conflict) so it now stands the same. If you still feel that in WP it should corrected, then please go ahead. Mathew Joy (talk) 10:55, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then. Seems like it would be an unintentional error though... Maybe adding a [sic] would be the way to go. Sellyme (talk) 10:58, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spellchecking vandals

Hello there. Are you a bot, or are you using some sort of software to find pages which need spelling corrections? I'm a little concerned that your last two edits have been to correct the typos in obvious vandalism sentences which should have been deleted rather than corrected ("[a rubber duck] generally has a beard & a smell similar to rotting flesh", "The great fire of london was a bad day This is totaly random"). --

McGeddon (talk) 08:41, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply
]

Yes, I actually noticed both of these things while fixing them. I then re-edited to revert the rubber ducky spam one, however it had already been reverted when I tried to, and the Great Fire of London one was protected. I do see almost all vandalism, but sometimes I can't actually fix it before others. Sellyme (talk) 09:29, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spellchecking software problem

Hi, As McGeddon says above, it is clear that you are using some sort of software to correct spellings, but there are weaknesses in the system, as it has 'corrected' the spelling of the French word "imaginé" to "imagineé" on two pages on my watchlist (example). Clearly it cannot recognise the accented 'e' and so reads the word as if the last e were missing. This may have affected other pages, in which its 'corrections' are in fact introducing errors. Paul B (talk) 09:03, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Huh, that's unusual. I'll look in to the bot, and see if it's fixable. Thanks, I'll keep my eyes peeled for that in the future! Sellyme (talk) 09:26, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As a heads up, you've also corrected "www.newyorker.com" to "www.New Yorker.com". If this is a bot that you've written yourself, spellchecking is notoriously difficult to automate accurately - it's not very safe to have it running without any human verification of its edits. More seriously, it's misleading to other editors to have it running on your main account, where it looks more like a human user running a plugin, rather than a bot running on automatic. You should take a look at Wikipedia:Bot_policy#Bot_accounts, which requires bots to be run from separate accounts with "Bot" in their name, so that other editors know it's an automated process. (There are also requirements for having a bot approved by a review panel before you switch it on.)
Most of its edits seem fine, though! So thanks for your contributions, whatever happens from here. --
McGeddon (talk) 09:37, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply

Actually, it isn't automated. It's Lupin's famous design. I have had one or two (or five) errors, but thanks for your help! I'll grab a coffee and start paying more attention. Cheers! Sellyme (talk) 10:22, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, no problem. It seems quarter of a second late reverts are a bit of a problem. Oh well, it still gets fixed eventually :) Sellyme (talk) 22:30, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to know that you support the corrupt federal government.

Now I suggest that you mind your own business, Australian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rangetests (talkcontribs) 16:14, 17 October 2010

This is my business. I recommend you stop vandalising, it's very annoying. And if you really want to know, I don't support any government at all. But WP:NPOV (Neutral Point of View) means that your edits are vandalism and have to be reverted. Go to Conservapedia or Liberapedia if you want. Sellyme (talk) 03:16, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
