How about Taare...

Hi Shahid - thanks for your help with

Chak De India. I wonder if I could ask you to take a look at Taare Zameen Par - I'd like to push it to GA eventually but it still needs a lot of work. Would you or other editors that you know be interested in working on it? I'm a bit swamped in "real life" at the moment so I can't contribute that much for a bit. I think it's potentially a GA article with a little bit of development. Hope all is well, -Classicfilms (talk) 17:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply
]

Thanks Shahid and thanks for the nice words. Yes, I've been working relatively alone on the article for far too long - it would be great to have other editors work on and develop it. It may be a matter of going through the references which are already included and developing sections such as production and reception and that will take the work of many sets of eyes. Now I have to get back to other work :-) -Classicfilms (talk) 18:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I would also like to see CDI in FAC. Perhaps as other editors contribute to both articles, they will both develop in that direction. I'll be periodically breaking for other work but I'll check in when I have some time. -Classicfilms (talk) 00:38, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism: explanation, guidance and warning

I seriously beg to difer. For one, I see nowhere on the page where the 2 sites I mentioned are disallowed. For one, iefilmi.com is a website of an actual advisory board composed of film and movie professionals an journalists, and specifically states that it takes "all reasonable care to ensure that pages published by the site are objective, accurate and factual on the stated date of publication or last modification". Which unless you yourself are in the industry, holds more credibility than any mere fan or editor.

I already put my justification on why I selectively used akhilesh.in. Its only on the items shere it went indepth with the exact items that were copied. Of course if the contents were not true, I'm sure you could find me some other objective that disproves it.

And another thing. I did not do a full revision, I added on to the article with even more links. Even, as you requested, links from outside the 2 sites you were (unjustifiably) restricting me from. As well as a clearer definition of plagiarism (in the main article itself) to justify why some of those movies are in the list. But you apparently miss that and all the other additions.

Therefore you are the one who is actually doing the full revision.

In your own words:

Another full version reversal from your part will be considered violation of these policies and therefore a deliberate act of vandalism which most certainly may cause to your immediate block.

I do welcome third party arbitration on this. Its obvious who has been the one doing actual research work, and who's the one oging about valdalising with a simple click of the undo button WITHOUT checking the additions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zhanzhao (talkcontribs) 00:46, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In case you did not realize, the only thing I did was remove the iefilmi and akhilesh citations, the rest of the references were mostly already there in my original edit. Zhanzhao (talk) 11:37, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly explain why Zinda is being removed on the list as an alleged plagiarising movie off Oldboy. The Zinda article has a point by point analysis of the similarities. There is a pending lawsuit from the makers of the original against the makers of Zinda[[1]]. And yet it gets removed from the list without explanation. Therefore its only justfiable that I hold that my interpretation of the Wiki rules are more correct than yours, since yours seem to be bent towards a certain agenda. Aishwarya Rai

Using the word Aishwarya is not wrong nor it is a FRIENDLY name, its her official first name. Its not as if I am using the word Ash here.

Salary part has been taken off but the Most successfull.... part is not at all wrong its a fact with proper sources and also it is specially mentioned that it is in the context of Box office total. This one is not related to her salary. Infact when I was going through the Bollywood page I found this source revealing the same thing, about two other actresses.

Miss World: It requires a different section as it tells about her title win and modelling career which is totaly different from her acting career and the title win is a special achievment in itself. She is mentioned as a model and an actress which are totally different line of professions. This is just an improvment to the article.

French honour: I really don't see anything wrong in this one and a reason it should not be mentioned. It is not a rumour but a fact with cited sources. It is a special French government honour(Its their civil award) with only handful of Indians receiving it, so it should be mentioned.

Media: I've added the word international in relation to the content of this section. The section basically focuses on her special popularity in International Media.

You wrote "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not magazine, not a list of information, not a newspaper, and not a fansite"

I am not a big fan of her's nor I am trying to start a media publication out here, her article was highly underwritten in comparison to her achievments and length of her career, I just improved it.What do you mean by not a list of information(you wrote that)? What are encyclopedia's for????

Hi Shahid. I've given my take on it. I've also left a note in the plagiarism talk page that I think the article should be deleted for the given reasons. It does nothing really but degrade Bollywood and the credibility of its directors and is not encyclopedic. It can be mentioned in the main article but I don't think the current article is an appropriate entry. Would you be upset if I took the article to afd? Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:04, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any thoughts?? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:08, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you agree. Thanks for your kind words amigo. I just think an article on it is likely to have permanent issues anyway even if you source it. OK I'll just upload a crappy low res image for 1985 Yash Chopra's Faasla and then I'll list it at AFD. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've redirected for now and removed the list but I have suspicions that it won't be long before somebody feels the need to restore it. If so. Then I'll take it to AFD. Undoubtedly hundreds of films porbably have resemblance, probably many Hollywood films resembles other and vice versa so I don't think the list is good enough so I've removed that. I think a good solid paragraph using book sources and newsapapers can be written about it in the main article but nothing further. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:28, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Filmfare awards

Thanks Shahid. I plan to complete the format for the rest of the categories for which nominations are announced too. Also i'm trying to do the same for Star Screen Awards. Anyways, I noticed you made a change of years in the

Filmfare Best Movie Award
and edited it according to the years they were presented in. Actually, my format is similar to the format of international film awards on Wikipedia and all those awards say the year for which the film belonged and not when they were awarded. Its a minor thing but please see to it and also inform me what to do the next time. Kindly refer:

Anant Singh (talk) 16:49, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I prefer it the earlier way coz the awards have been awarded for 'that' year and on all the sites (except IMDb; they have different set of rules) as well as in books, it is referenced like that...Junoon won the 1979 Filmfare Award and so on. But i suppose i can wait and see which one is the best through further discussions by other wikimembers. I'll update the other categories in Filmfare with the 'year they were awarded in' for the time being. Regards,

My beloved grandmother

I'm worried about my grandma at the moment. Shes extremely ill. I hate February, it is the death month. My Grandad died on February 23, my Grampy on Febryary 5th, this year my great aunty died on February 4th. I'm hoping my nan will get better. Shes 103, so as you can imagine we think she has only days to live. I'm so sad but she has lived to an incredible age. I want her to live to 120! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:52, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope so, she has just had several chest infections in the last few weeks. Things like that during the winter are enough to kill people in their 70s let alone who are a generation older at 103. Hopefully the antibiotics will cure it. She managed up until about 98 living by herself after my Granddad died in 1993. Now she is in a nursing home and surrounded by people coughing and spluttering in the winter! She lieved not far from the birth place of Ivor Novello! Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:11, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have a listen to this. It is like the quintessential rock ballad. I think the track would work well with a teary eyed Zinta? Let me know what you think. If a cheesy love song has to be given I'd rather they did it with some style eh, not like Backstreet Boys LOL/ Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I love Boston ,in my view one of the best rock bands to come out of the states along with Aeromsith, Lynard Skynard etc of course. WHen it comes to female vocalists you like Celine Dion, Whintey and Mariah right? I must admit I find Emmylou Harris more touching. There is something in her voice that affects me. Have a listen to this. You've probably heard it before. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:25, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shahid. Extremely ill. She has been in and out of a coma the last few days. The phone has been ringing like crazy. I;ve been ill myself with horrid salmonella poisoning and am still recovering so I haven't seen her for three days unfortunately. We had a phone call two nights ago (I thought it was going to be "the news" ) but they said she wasn't responding. She is slipping in and out of a coma, it will be a miracle if she pulls through this. At 103 her immune system will be drastically lower than when younger which is partly why few people live this long or longer. The older the body gets the harder it is to fight off infections and disease. She has always been an extremely tough woman (well matched with my late grandad), my sister reminds me VERY much of her. I'm just praying that she will get better as just two weeks ago she was in wonderful health for her age. If she can beat this chest infection and coma I know she has life still left in her. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Feeling so sad now. Just received a phone call to say her pulse is getting weaker and her kidneys have packed up and so is her liver about to too. Shes had a wonderfully long life but I feel so sad at her passing and breakdown like this. Death comes to us all, most much sooner than 103 but I will miss her greatly.

I'm kind of feeling as you do when you learn that a close family member has died right now, or is near death, a sickening emotion. I suspect she won't last the night. I loved her dearly ever since I was a baby. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:25, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I extended Zhanzhao's block for block evasion. But Shshshsh -- I completely agree with this block and was about to decline your unblock request when Ed beat me to it. You seem to think that after a short, recent conversation between you and Zhanzhao, with relatively little input from others, that a consensus has developed on these sources, but it hasn't. Discussion is needed... and I do tend to believe that Zhanzhao is the one who needs to find some substantive responses, but acting as if the matter is settled is only making things worse. New topic

Hello my dear friend. How are you doing?? I just needed to ask you a quick question about the awards that appear in a table format in the "external links" of an article such as [2]. Every year, an actor is awarded for his/her work in a certain category. However, during some of the years, no award is given in that category. Take for instance the

Filmfare Best Male Debut Award; Shiney Ahuja won in 2006, then no one won the award in 2007 and then Ranbir Kapoor won in 2008. Since no one won during the year 2007, I was wondering if we just leave that part of the table blank or should we add Shiney Ahuja in. Do you get what I am talking about?? LOL -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 18:25, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply
]

LOL, I am glad to know that both of our favorite actresses have decided to become friends!! LOL :P BTW, have you heard about Slumdog Millionaire's win at the 81st Academy Awards?? The film has earned 8 Oscars out of the 10 nominations it received, with three of them going to Indians!! WOW!!! A. R. Rahman is truly a complete genius!! Take a look at this!! Who do you think will win?? (P.S. There seems to be a problem with all of the BOI links; all of them are dead and none of them seem to work anymore. It looks like the site is currently being updated!! I hope that is the case otherwise we wouldn't have a proper source to indicate box office figures of films.) -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 02:45, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Slumdog Millionaire winning 8 out of the 10 Oscars it was nominated for is indeed a great victory for India. Many people have stated that this film has played a big role in reducing the gap between Bollywood and Hollywood; it has taken the perception of Indians to a whole new level. Over the next couple of years, we can probably expect a lot more cross-over films. A perfect example of this is with the case of Heaven on Earth. TBH, I never knew that Ms.Zinta was nominated at the Genie Awards, the Canadian version of the Academy Awards. It indeed is a great big accomplishment for her. What saddens me the most is that I haven't seen the film yet!! Have you?? The Indian-dubbed version is expected to release around next month.
As for the Indian awards, what can I say?? Nowadays, the Indian awards are becomig quite monotonous. It is like the awards are given to actors based on hype/popularity rather than merit and talent. =( Since the results of the
Filmfare Best Actress Award
from 2001-onwards, list them in the order based on who you felt fully deserved it. I have included my list below:
  • Karisma for Fiza (2001)
  • Rani for Black (2006)
  • Preity for KHNH (2004)
  • Kajol for K3G (2002)
  • Kareena for JWM (2008)
  • Aish for Devdas (2003)
  • Kajol for Fanaa (2007)
  • Rani for Hum Tum (2005)

Grandmother

Perhaps you didn't get the news Shahid she died last night. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:12, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Well she died with my father holding her hand and his sisters and brothers around. He said he could feel her pulse gradually getting weaker and her hand colder as the night progressed, She sneezed 3 last times gave a little sigh then died. So she died peacefully and probably in the best way she could have. Imagine how you would feel after 103, pretty knackered. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:24, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm OK, not my usual self, its difficult to feel happy at the moment, February is always difficult anyway but having lost a close Great Aunty and Grandmother in a few weeks I'm feeling a little off set at present. I've just been listening to Belfast Child written about the IRA bombing in 1987. Beautiful song. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I could sure use some cheering up! Yes Slumdog as expected scooped up the Oscars. I bet it feels great that an Indian film won all those awards. Theres all these American blockbusters that the critics just seem to hate and then somebody shoots a film with a lesser known actors in Mumbai for $15 million, they go crazy for it! Have you seen the film yet? Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it isn't an "Indian" film like Bollywood films are etc but it was made in India and starring Indian or Indian origin cast members. So the fact that something Indian related won 8 oscars should be a good thing and help close the gap between "east" and "west". Not sure if it will have any positive effect on the Indian film industry in the west but it certainly is not a bad thing. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL. I bet there are some seriously bad films made, just like in Hollywood. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thats terrible though. 80% is way too high. I thought you said you thought Bollywood was the best film industry? The problem I see is that they produce far too many films. There just always seems to be a big rush to get films out so it probably affects the quality and depth of a lot of them. Perhaps if they released less films and focused on producing good films the situation would improve. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
