Prosesize script

We use a script to obtain the wordcount. It's information page is at

User:Dr pda/prosesize. To install the script, go to Special:MyPage/common.js

and add the following to the end:

(The first line is a comment providing a link to the script's identification page, to help with later troubleshooting if necessary.)

Save the changes. Then, so long as javascript is working in your browser, you should get a little Page size option under Tools on the left sidebar when you load most Wikipedia pages.

Next, you go to the page you want a wordcount for. In this case, we want the pre-copyedit version of the page, so we take that from the page history, here. Load that and click on Page size in the left sidebar. The script should give you a count of 611 words (3567 bytes). It will also highlight the text that it's counting so that you can verify that it's counting what you copy edited (in some cases you may have to adjust upwards or downwards, or make a manual count). The script isn't perfect, but it works most of the time.

We generally consider a copy edit to be complete when it is free of grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors, and compliant with the

  • online document conversion website is it redundant to say that a website is "online"? I removed that word and hyphenated the compound modifier document-conversion.
  • Group digits in Western thousands-based style: 3200 → 3,200. This does not apply to years (e.g.: March 2020). (see

  • is used for both businesses and consumers for → by. Otherwise it sounds like it's converting businesses and consumers (into what, I don't know).
  • It can convert It → FileZigZag. Use its full name on first mention in the article body.
  • It is a free to use service. Hyphenate the compound modifier free-to-use. This can make it a little easier to read and avoid momentary confusion, as some of those words can be used as verbs. (

Some notes on your copy edit of Werrason. This article was as rough translation with sourcing problems, so probably not worth spending a lot of time on it, but it's a good article for practise.

• is a Congo musician → is a Congolese musician
• in his local church Kinshasa   in his local church in Kinshasa
• founder of Wenge Maison Mère (WMM) → founder of Wenge Maison Mère [fr] (WMM) – this is the proper way of linking to another wikipedia, though fixing this isn't a requirement of copy editing.
• There's a layout problem: The lead wasn't constructed as the article lead but was simply at the top of the article when section headers were added below it. I added a section header "Early life and education" at the logical break and added a {{lead too short}} cleanup template.
• Once you have that Early section, you can apply
  MOS:SURNAME
  to subsequent references to his college bandmates.
• "Chantal Switzerland" – be mindful of linking within a quotation or especially within a title, which can give undue emphasis or skew the intended meaning.
• Be mindful of italics for album titles. There was one spot with 'Solola Bien which had an extra apostrophe and space.
