In fact, your summary is so good that I have lifted it almost directly for an explanatory footnote, because the usage seems so odd by American standards and because the Hawks quotation just below it (mis)uses the patronym as if it were a surname. :-) --Thnidu (talk) 03:43, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Disturbing
Hi you removed my reference to this - I hadn't intended it for anything more than to draw someone's attention to the new section - it hardly seems appropriate here. Why point out thus subtly that ISIS are probably telling the West they are coming back for more? Le Sanglier des Ardennes (talk) 23:52, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I know what you're referring to. If this is about the line "This is disturbing", there was no reference attached to it to begin with. I didn't remove any reference. Tigercompanion25 (talk) 23:54, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- I am sorry - I meant the statement. But don't you think the whole section above it reads badly? Le Sanglier des Ardennes (talk) 23:57, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- ==== Timing and theological context ====
- The Paris attacks came on the first day of the Muslim lunar month of Safar, which in 2015 fell on 13 November. Since the Islamic lunar calendar year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar year, Safar migrates throughout the seasons.

- at Safwan in 623. Islamic State has referred to the Paris attacks as a “ghazva” (religious raid). According to the Cambridge History of Islam, when performed within the context of Islamic warfare, a ghazw's function is to weaken and demoralise an enemy in preparation for his eventual conquest and subjugation.
- I don't think it reads particularly badly. The problem with a bald statement like "This is disturbing" is that it's inherently subjective. I mean, disturbing to whom? Based on what interpretation? I think the other stuff in this section is pretty objective, and it's sourced. It presents information. "This is disturbing" presents an interpretation of that information, and one without a source. Tigercompanion25 (talk) 00:02, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- I thought I explained that I only said it was disturbing to make some one (id est, you) look at it. Thanks Le Sanglier des Ardennes (talk) 00:04, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- I would refer you to WP:VERIFY for the relevant Wikipedia policies that make the statement in question inappropriate for an encyclopedia. They apply to all content, including sentences intended as "attention getters." This is a big story; I don't think we need to worry about whether or not people will look at it. Reactions lists
Thanks for fighting the good fight against the mindless walls of reaction quotes after every major event. Not sure where the discussion's going to go, some people just don't understand what we're talking about, just look at the last inane oppose comment that's actually in suppose of the proposal! Anyway, perhaps the best option is to nip them in the bud after current events like they did at Talk:2016_Lahore_suicide_bombing#Reactions, but let me know if you ever need a hand if/when this comes up again. Reywas92Talk 01:23, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words :). Yeah, I was really pleased to see the scaled down and, to my mind, much more reasonable reaction section at the 2016 Lahore suicide bombing. We'll see how it plays out at the Village Pump. Tigercompanion25 (talk) 04:02, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
