Islam in Croatia

What exactly is the point of saying "only"? The lede tries to establish some opinion on the numbers themselves rather than just provide objective data. Fojr (talk) 08:57, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Word "only" many be removed, but that's not what you did. You changed the first sentence which was completely unnecessary. Word "only" is about the concept of the sentence. Maybe new sentence could be: "Islam is the largest minority faith in Croatia which was followed by 1.47% of the population according to the 2011 census, compared to 86.28% Roman Catholics, 4.57% not religious, atheists, agnostics and sceptics, 4.44% Orthodox Christians and 0.34% Protestants." United Union (talk) 09:59, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
I reworded it in a fashion that corresponds to other articles. The lede is quite frankly a clusterfuck. "Islam is although being the second-largest faith in Croatia after Christianity a religion followed by only 1.47% of the population according to the 2011 census, compared to 86.28% Roman Catholics, 4.57% not religious, atheists, agnostics and sceptics, 4.44% Orthodox Christians and 0.34% Protestants." - Problems with it range from grammatical validity to vocabulary. A lede is meant to be simple, not cumbersome to read. It's not meant to force the reader into thinking "is this even grammatical?" or "where does this sentence end?". It's meant to describe the concept that the article talks about, it's not meant to instantly introduce words that deviate from subject. It is meant to be unbiased. My changes did not change the facts in any way, my changes presented them in a more clear and more concise way as opposed to the current one that immediately jumps to making conclusions about the subject at hand (which is a big no) and are potentially completely unwanted in an encyclopedia article. Fojr (talk) 11:17, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I do understand what you are trying to say, that's why I gave you this alternative proposition.United Union (talk) 13:11, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

HDZ

Hello. HDZ (Croatian "Democratic" Union) supports Dr. Franjo Tuđman, who said following in Croatian: "Rijesiti na koji nacin? To je sada tema nase danasnje rasprave. Da nanesemo takve udarce da Srbi prakticno nestanu, odnosno da ono sto necemo odmah zahvatiti da mora kapitulirati u nekoliko dana." Source=[1], ICTY explicitly stated that he was a war criminal. Source:[2]. CDU still supports this person, making their ideology based on anti-Serb sentiment. I'm eager to communicate if you have any arguments whatsoever to prove me wrong. Thank you. Vs6507 16:49, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Hy, stating that HDZ ideology includes "antiserb sentiment" is an arrant nonsense. There is no such thing as "antiserb sentiment" in HDZ ideology which is based on democracy and inclusion. President Tuđman isn't a war criminal, and Gotovina, Markač and Čermak were all acquitted. Evan Gotovina and Markač were declared war criminals, just so ICTY could eventually conclude that they were completely innocent and that there was no such thing as joint criminal enterprise by the Croatian leadership, during 1990's war, which was led by Tuðman. Those Serbs that president Tuđman mentioned in video were nothing more than disgusting rebellions that wanted to secede 30 % of the Croatian territory, and led war against Croatia. Of course that they had to be defeated so Croatia could free its territory. Tuðman wasn't talking about Serbs as a whole, but about those heinous rebellions. Just because Tuđman said something against rebellions during the war who happen to be Serbs, doesn't mean that ideology of present day HDZ has "anti-serb sentiment". Nice work - with a little bit of polishing, fit for

DYK, would you agree? GregorB (talk
) 21:00, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you! Yes, I do agree. Greetings, United Union (talk) 21:35, 24 February 2016 (UTC).
Okay, I'll do some copyediting, maybe expand or rearrange a little. DYK-specific stuff is on me. Will keep you posted. GregorB (talk) 21:45, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
It's more or less a translation from hr wiki, am I right? I'd like to tag it as such. Has no bearing on DYK - translations from other wikis are accepted. GregorB (talk) 10:35, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes, for the most part. Np, United Union (talk) 09:38, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm going to do the rest of the changes this evening (nothing much, just tidying up the refs I suppose), then nominate the article. Is shared DYK credit fine? GregorB (talk) 14:22, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Yes, of course. Thank you for your work on the improvement of article, United Union (talk) 15:17, 2 March 2016 (UTC).
No problem - it's really an interesting topic and a very nice article right from the start. Finally, the nomination is here: Template:Did you know nominations/Croatian Apoxyomenos! You might want to watch the nomination page, but no worries - should there be any complications, I'll take care. GregorB (talk) 21:09, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

ZAG Airport Tuđman

Hello. I mentioned your edit on

Zagreb International Airport and read explanation. Just a few words about last case of airport's name. I saw that you're native Croatian speaker so you're able to read Croatian news media. In these past few days, some media reports made a confusion about correct and full name of airport. Articles like these ones jutarnji and vecernji
are obviously unprofessionally written because journalists don't even know a distinction between terms "airport" and "terminal" or on Croatian "zračna luka" and "terminal". In these article, journalists first publish that the whole airport will be named after president Tuđman (which is normal act in whole world), and then after in their text mention that only a new built terminal will be named (!) "Zračna luka Franjo Tuđman" or in English "Franjo Tuđman Airport" (what a joke!).

So, we can conclude that articles like these ones aren't the best source of information. I think that the only way to get a correct information is official website of Croatian Government (or official Twitter profile). There I found this document which is accepted at the meeting of Government. At first point in document, it is clear that Government renamed airport, not the terminal. The name of airport, according to Government decision in document, is "Zračna luka Franjo Tuđman/Airport Franjo Tuđman".

However, the new terminal of airport is mentioned at explanation of Govrnm. decision. But in goal to achieve a finish of this discussion and resolve misunderstandings, I suggest to hear what a competent Minister who proposed renaming of airport said in video: About name of airport at 0:17 ..."Čitav kompleks (eng. The whole complex)...nove i stare zračne luke/terminali(eng. of new and old airport/terminals)...će se zvati po prvom hrvatskom predsjedniku(eng. will be named after first Croatian president). So, the new terminal will not be only named after president Tuđman but the whole airport.

Sorry for eventually taking your time but I hope that I help you with these informations if you were maybe misguided. Best regards, ZPσβ (talk) 00:41, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Question

Hi, United. I noticed that you have reverted on

ZAG airport this sentence:"...the first president of Croatia Franjo Tuđman, the most significant person of the country's independence." I just want to get concensus with you about this introducing sentence. What do you consider that is wrong there? ZPσβ (talk
) 12:18, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Whole sentence is incorrect and really represents your personal opinion about him. It is enough to write that he was Croatian president or first Croatian president after 1990 multiparty elections (because he is really 17th president). If one wants to know more about his enrolment in the Croatian War of Independence, one can read his article and conclude for oneself whether he was "the most significant person of the country's independence" or not. United Union (talk) 07:40, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
I disagree because it is not my personal opinion but general opinion of Croatian people which you can see here and here for example. I think that is important to put short sentence about person's name of airport like other airports named after some person have. But to avoid edit-warring, I will compromise with you and put this sentence as you've suggested - "...named after FT, the first president od Croatia after country's independence." Person interested in contributing

I am an OTRS agent, I fielded an email from someone involved with a Croatian Association, who was looking to write about Croatian issues in Wikipedia and looking for administrators or volunteers for help.

I pointed the person to the WikiProject Croatia. That person wrote back and said they got no response. I asked who they contacted and they claim to have contacted everyone on the participant list with contact information.

I picked your name as someone with recent activity and listed on the participant list. Would you be willing to have a conversation with this person to discuss how they can contribute to Wikipedia?--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:41, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Croatian Apoxyomenos DYK...

...has run into slight problems - nothing too serious though. Do you happen to know a copyeditor who could take a look at it? I could give it a go myself, but obviously a native speaker would be preferable and of great help really. GregorB (talk) 21:06, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

No, unfortunately I don't. :/ You can give it a try if you wish. United Union (talk) 16:44, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Croatian Apoxyomenos

On 14 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Croatian Apoxyomenos, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Croatian Apoxyomenos (head pictured), a 2,000-year-old Ancient Greek bronze statue, was discovered on the seabed by a Belgian tourist? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Croatian Apoxyomenos. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Croatian Apoxyomenos), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Gatoclass (talk) 00:01, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

FYI, the Apoxyomenos got 12,647 page views yesterday, which is apparently the second-highest number of DYK article views in the history of WP Croatia! Thanks again for making it possible... GregorB (talk) 16:12, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

El Carmen Airport

Hi, United Union. I removed the multiple issues tag from El Carmen Airport. The page has a stub label, which covers the issues you were kind enough to bring up. It is also noted as Stub Class on the Talk page. You will find that most articles on little airports are stubs, and have the 'You can help Wikipedia by expanding it' notice at the bottom of the page. Thanks. Cptmrmcmillan (talk) 12:23, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
