173rd ABCT (again)
Hello. I've once again been putting a lot of effort into the 173rd Airborne Brigade page, including plenty of book sources. Since you've done some work on it before, I was wondering if you'd mind skimming it over to see if I missed anything...It's a whole lot more comprehensive than before but I don't want to head into another FAC without making it as spotless as possible. - Thanks for the offer. I won't be blocking him because I also revert a lot of his edits for simply being corny, all the time. He always makes all these articles - first Vietnamese American to graduate from law school, first VA killed in Iraq, first VA to become and army officer etc. and a whole pile of VA guys who became councillors in a small US town (100k people). And then accused me of being anti-Vietnamese. Apart from that sticking "he is a devout anti-communist" almost ad nauseum all over the place. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 04:35, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- I am taking a break from looking through the images. Is there a way to simply delete them all? I would think that the collatoral damage would be minimal, compared to the strain the user imposes on others to check through his falsehood. If any can be used for "fair-use", I am pretty certain interested editors can find them again via the web. On another note, why are there no templates to declare the information given (author, source, or date) are false? I have to go around, trying to fit db-i9 or npd to the mess. Jappalang (talk) 03:14, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, only commons has a delete all mode. I don;t think you should worry about tagging it. Some admins are onto it and they'll be deleted without someone having to put an application form on it, like you. It would be good if you voted for the ban though. Could you please vote or abstain on Motion 1.3 in the Matthew Hoffman appeal? It currently has 5 supports out of ten, but the new Arbcom is going to come in in two weeks, and then everything will be thrown into chaos. It has been up for three and a bit weeks, the appeal itself is a month old. It would be nice to be able to get this over with and move on, instead of leaving it to the new Arbcom to sort out.
Thank you,

- YellowMonkey, there's been some curiosity onthe Clerks' noticeboard as to whether you plan to participate in on-Wiki Committee matters any time soon. As a rule of thumb, Arbitrators that have not made any ArbCom-related edits in two weeks are usually moved to "away" to keep the members list current.

For future reference, could you let me know why?

- Basically, the article is written in the style of an advertisement. Also it does not appear to be notable WP:N. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 04:35, 12 December 2008 (UTC)]
Yellow Monkey,
Thanks for your response.
Is it possible to see the page again so that I can edit it.
As for being notable, as far as I can see those sources are good. Could you explain why they're not?
Thanks for your help.

- Sure I'll get it for you. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:54, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- I've moved it to User:Labyrinth23/The Word Ho Chi Minh City. The main problem is that the references have to be independent, not it's own website, and the article has to be written properly, not like an advert with information on how to subcribe etc. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 08:00, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Protection of Joseph Cao
Could you please explain your protection of Joseph Cao? There is a request to unprotect it here. There seems to have been little or no anonymous vandalism before the protection, and the article hasn't been protected before, so indefinite semi-protection seems unjustifiable. Thanks. --Tango (talk) 14:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

A comment would be much appreciated
Regarding
- Ok, I'll read them. The reason I don't want to comment on "good faith" is not because I have a general cynicism of it or have a specific suspicion about you, but because some of the allegations here involve off-wiki activity. I think that if arbitrators go into this type of stuff, people will be encouraged to try and spy on each other, or pretend to befriend people and run sting operations off-wiki, or to turn on people. I have seen a few guys join up with a few other guys off-wiki (only revealed afterwards) and they seemed happy with each other, and groups A and B seemed united in dealing with group C. Then after group C left, some of group A posted a pile of supposed correspondence on-wiki [which contradicted themselves] and then banned some of their former buddies [later overturned]. I'm not sure if they had always intended to report B after C had been thrown off and only intended to team up with B so that B could fight for them, or whether they changed their minds on a whim, but after that it started a horrendous brawl within the said WikiProject, with some folks sending emails to one guy alleging some guy did a certain illegal thing and then sending emails to another guy saying other things, and trying to play mind games with different people as to who to report [possibly falsely] and who to cover-up in return for political favours. After that the WikiProject went into a recession for a long time, basically, and even 18 months later is basically not growing much at all in terms of FA, and that was one major reason for it, although other big-time writers slowing down was another. I think that if there is a problem with some guy, it's better to deal with it in a straight manner, instead of trying to do off-wiki tricks, which can lead to mass distrust. So that's why I don't really like to make a big deal about it, in case people try to start to raise the stakes about off-wiki business. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 02:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the extensive reply. There are several findings/remedies that state that off-wiki coordination is difficult to prove/disprove without special evidence, and I am satisfied with those (quite logical) findings. The point of 25.6, as I see it, is rather different: this is a second arbcom in which I have been accused of being (by some editors at least) next to a wiki "evil incarnate" :> I am fed up with such accusations, which appear not only on arbcom but occasionally all over the wiki (quite a few appeared in Piotrus 1, were ignored by arbcom then, and as a result not disappeared but were reappeared afterwards and reappeared here). Thus I am certain that if certain issues are not addressed this time, I will be facing the same slander for the next year or so, until Piotrus 3 is launched... thus I would like to see either a general rebuke or a series of specific (evidence and workshop proposals by user x are rejected). Findings of good behavior may not be common but I know they are not unprecedented as far as arbcoms go, and I strongly believe that this case, per reasons I tried to elaborate upon, may be in need of such finding(s).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 11:33, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
