The Heroic Slave, a Thrilling Narrative of the Adventures of Madison Washington, in Pursuit of Liberty is a short piece of fiction written by famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass. When the Rochester Ladies' Anti Slavery Society asked Douglass for a short story to go in their collection, Autographs for Freedom, Douglass responded in turn with The Heroic Slave. The novella, published in 1852 by John P. Jewett and Company, was Douglass' first and only published work of fiction (though he did publish several autobiographical narratives).

The Heroic Slave is the fictionalized story of Madison Washington. As Madison Washington carries a heavy load through the woods lamenting his condition under slavery, Mr. Listwell, a free white man, watches him in silence. Then, the story moves ahead five years in time and finds Mr. Listwell sitting at the table with his wife when they hear a knock at the door. Madison Washington is running from slavery, and Mr. Listwell is more than willing to help him escape. As they talk, Mr. Listwell tells Madison he remembers him from so many years before, and asks him where he has been all of this time. Madison reveals that on the day Mr. Listwell saw him, he did indeed leave his wife and children and run for his freedom. However, he was unable to find his way to the north, and a week later found himself back at his plantation. He met with his wife who gave him food and provision, however, and for five years hid in the woods. However, a great fire caused Madison to lose his hiding place, which is why he ran to see Mr. Listwell. Mr. Listwell gives Madison a new coat and provisions and helps him escape to Canada.

In Part II, Mr. Listwell is in a tavern and reveals that he has traveled 40 miles that day. As he drinks, he sees a slave-gang on their way to market, and is surprised to see Madison Washington among the slaves. Madison reveals that he reached Canada, but he missed his wife so much that he again entered the United States to help her escape. He reached her bedroom window, but he scared her so much that he woke up her master. The two of them were soon caught, and he was separated from her and sold. Mr. Listwell realizes there's nothing he can do for Madison in these conditions, but implores the man to put his trust in God. As he is leaving, however, Mr. Listwell buys 3 files and slips them to Madison in secret. Part II ends with Madison sailing away, still in slavery.

In Part III, men speak about "unfortunate" events that occurred about the ship Creole. Madison Washington gained the trust of all of the overseers on board, and then led the slave in rebellion. Nineteen slaves survived the battle. Madison declared himself Captain of the ship, which took port in Nassau. In Nassau, a group of black soldiers declared that they only protected property, and people were not property, so the nineteen slaves became free.

Stanley J. Stepanic is a known specialist in folklore, the occult, demonology and mythology, with a focus on lower mythology. Currently, he is a professor at the University of Virginia, teaching a course titled Dracula, which was previously taught by Jan Louis Perkowski, a folklore and linguistics expert at the university. The course focuses primarily on the assimilation of Slavic folklore into Western culture in the image of the vampire and how this developed into literature, popular culture and especially film. He received his Master's Degree at the University of Virginia in Russian and Russian studies and is currently working towards his PhD.

The Valparaiso Foundation, or Fundaciòn Valparaìso, is a Chilean non-profit organization, (not to be confused with a Spanish artist's residency foundation of the same name), dedicated to promoting the rebirth of the city of Valparaìso, Chile, as a UNESCO world heritage site. The foundation was founded in 1998 by a North American poet, Todd Temkin, who fell in love with the city while teaching North American Literature at the Catholic University of Valparaiso.

The foundation works in three principal areas: urban development, cultural administration, and the improvement of instrastructure and standards for cultural tourism.

In the urban development area, the Valparaiso Foundation played an active role on the consulting committee for the application for UNESCO world heritage status for Valparaiso. In 1999-2001, the foundation restored 23 homes in the Bellavista Hill neighborhood of the city, with funding from the Robert Wilson Challenge Grant Program, under the auspices of the World Monuments Fund. In 2001, the foundation worked with the Chilean goverment to create a pilot program for the restoration of historic buildings via the transformation of such structures into "living workshops," or escuela-talleres, which not only recuperate the built heritage, but also create new labor pools qualified to intervene in historic buildings. A pilot program was established in the Mercado Puerto, or marketplace in the old port neighborhood of Valparaiso.

In 2002, the foundation participated in a consortium that won a goverment contract to consult the Valparaiso Port Authority (EPV) on the creation of a master plan for the recovery of the Valparaiso waterfront. The waterfront project has since been bidded out to a developer, Grupo Plaza, but the Valparaiso Foundation is no longer actively involved in the project, as the port authority changed many of the suggested in the original consulting contract.

In the cultural area, the Valparaiso Foundation is the adminstrative home for the Festival Internacional de Cine de Valparaiso, the Valparaiso International Film Festival. Fundaciòn Valparaìso also organizes an ethnic music festival, and an opera festival, called Opera by the Sea. In many of these projects, an important strategic partner is the Fundaciòn DUOC, a community college that puts many professors and students to work on Valparaiso Foundation projects.

In tourism, the emblematic project of the Fundaciòn Valparaiso is the Bicentennial Heritage Trail, a thirty kilometer zigzagging walking trail that navigates the 43 hills of Valparaiso. Other tourism projects include the Cruising Valparaiso magazine, pubished for passangers of the 46 cruise ship calls (2007-8 season) that call on Valparaiso during the Chilean summer.

Richie Hall spent nine years playing in the CFL which included four seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1988-1991. He was also a important member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' 1989 Grey Cup Championship team. During his nine year professional career, Richie Hall played in 153 regular season CFL games. He was a 4 time member of the Western Division All-Star Team in 1983 and 1986 with the Calgary Stampeders and 1988 and 1990 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 1983 Hall was also named All-CFL for an terrific rookie performance with the Calgary Stampeders. In 1990, Roughrider fans voted Richie the Roughriders' Most Popular Player. He was also a nominee for the organizations Outstanding Defensive Player award in 1988.

During the 1996, Jones began training under Mike Modest at the APW Professional Wrestling Training Boot Camp along with Donovan Morgan and Vic Grimes ^[4] graduating from the training camp making his professional debut wrestling against Manny "The Raging Bull" Fernandez at APW Gym Wars on January 15, 1997.

Feuding with Vic Grimes in his early months with the promotion, he would loose to Grimes at APW Gym Wars on April 19 and on June 20, the latter defeat eliminating him from the opening round of a tournament for the APW Universal Championship.

He soon found success in the tag team division however forming the Westside Connection with Jay Smooth defeating Donovan Morgan & Robert Thompson for the APW Universal Tag Team titles on August 1, 1997. Successfully defending the titles for over a month, including a victory over Vic Grimes & Chris Cole on August 15, he and Smooth lost the titles to the Grimes Brothers (Vic & Little Dic Grimes) at APW Sports Annihilation on September 5, 1997.

Jones attempted to regain the titles teaming with Rick Turner, although they lost to the Grimes Brothers in a Best of 3 Falls match at APW Night of the Return on October 3. He later lost to Grimes at APW Halloween Hell on October 31, although he later won a 6-man tag team match with Elijah Wisdom and Truth against Rick Thompson and the Grimes Brothers at APW Final Friday on November 7, 1997.

Teaming with Steve Rizzono, Jones regained the tag team titles defeating Robert Thompson & Chris Cole on December 6. After Rizzono was suspended by the promotion, Jones was forced to surrender the titles to APW which were officially vacated on January 17, 1998. That same night, he was given an opportunity to win back the titles and chose Mike Modest who together went on to defeat Frank Murdoch and his former tag team partner Jay Smooth.

Forming Wrestling Inc., he and Modest would have a highly successful tag team career eventually voted APW Tag Team of the Year and, as tag team champions, held the titles for almost four months defeating Vic Grimes &

A Resource-Based Economy is a system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that the Earth is abundant with plentiful resource; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter productive to our survival.

Modern society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing and medical care; update our educational system; and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society.

A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on resources rather than money, we could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.

Consider the following examples: At the beginning of World War II the US had a mere 600 or so first-class fighting aircraft. We rapidly overcame this short supply by turning out more than 90,000 planes a year. The question at the start of World War II was: Do we have enough funds to produce the required implements of war? The answer was No, we did not have enough money, nor did we have enough gold; but we did have more than enough resources. It was the available resources that enabled the US to achieve the high production and efficiency required to win the war. Unfortunately this is only considered in times of war.

In a resource-based economy all of the world's resources are held as the common heritage of all of Earth's people, thus eventually outgrowing the need for the artificial boundaries that separate people. This is the unifying imperative.

We must emphasize that this approach to global governance has nothing whatever in common with the present aims of an elite to form a world government with themselves and large corporations at the helm, and the vast majority of the world's population subservient to them. Our vision of globalization empowers each and every person on the planet to be the best they can be, not to live in abject subjugation to a corporate governing body.

Our proposals would not only add to the well being of people, but they would also provide the necessary information that would enable them to participate in any area of their competence. The measure of success would be based on the fulfillment of one's individual pursuits rather than the acquisition of wealth, property and power.

At present, we have enough material resources to provide a very high standard of living for all of Earth's inhabitants. Only when population exceeds the carrying capacity of the land do many problems such as greed, crime and violence emerge. By overcoming scarcity, most of the crimes and even the prisons of today's society would no longer be necessary.

A resource-based world economy would also involve all-out efforts to develop new, clean, and renewable sources of energy: geothermal; controlled fusion; solar; photovoltaic; wind, wave, and tidal power; and even fuel from the oceans. We would eventually be able to have energy in unlimited quantity that could propel civilization for thousands of years. A resource-based economy must also be committed to the redesign of our cities, transportation systems, and industrial plants, allowing them to be energy efficient, clean, and conveniently serve the needs of all people.

What else would a resource-based economy mean? Technology intelligently and efficiently applied, conserves energy, reduces waste, and provides more leisure time. With automated inventory on a global scale, we can maintain a balance between production and distribution. Only nutritious and healthy food would be available and planned obsolescence would be unnecessary and non-existent in a resource-based economy.

As we outgrow the need for professions based on the monetary system, for instance lawyers, bankers, insurance agents, marketing and advertising personnel, salespersons, and stockbrokers, a considerable amount of waste will be eliminated. Considerable amounts of energy would also be saved by eliminating the duplication of competitive products such as tools, eating utensils, pots, pans and vacuum cleaners. Choice is good. But instead of hundreds of different manufacturing plants and all the paperwork and personnel required to turn out similar products, only a few of the highest quality would be needed to serve the entire population. Our only shortage is the lack of creative thought and intelligence in ourselves and our elected leaders to solve these problems. The most valuable, untapped resource today is human ingenuity.

With the elimination of debt, the fear of losing one's job will no longer be a threat This assurance, combined with education on how to relate to one another in a much more meaningful way, could considerably reduce both mental and physical stress and leave us free to explore and develop our abilities.

If the thought of eliminating money still troubles you, consider this: If a group of people with gold, diamonds and money were stranded on an island that had no resources such as food, clean air and water, their wealth would be irrelevant to their survival. It is only when resources are scarce that money can be used to control their distribution. One could not, for example, sell the air we breathe or water abundantly flowing down from a mountain stream. Although air and water are valuable, in abundance they cannot be sold.

Money is only important in a society when certain resources for survival must be rationed and the people accept money as an exchange medium for the scarce resources. Money is a social convention, an agreement if you will. It is neither a natural resource nor does it represent one. It is not necessary for survival unless we have been conditioned to accept it as such.

Bio

X-Piral were originally formed in 2000 by Nick Papanikolaou (lead guitars) and Dimitris Marinis (Synth & Piano), which have known each other from previous bands. Petros Hatzibiros, friend of both of them, was assigned with the rhythm guitar and Lazaros Damanis the vocals. The first drummer joins a few weeks later. Antonis Petridis (700 Machines) was a really skilful and technical drummer.

With this line up, a demo CD was recorded entitled Perfect Lies, at Graffiti Studios on February of 2000. Bass guitar was recorded by Nick Papanikolaou as the band didn't have a bassist at that time. The result was not satisfying enough and the CD never got to the public. Antonis left the band to join 700 Machines as he never really was into the Heavy-Power metal we were trying to build, and as we were disappointed from our recording attempt, the band splits up.

After several months, Nick and Dimitris, decided to give it one more try, so we went on searching for new members to rebuild the band, this time under the name Shadow Play. Petros took once again the rhythm guitar and the search for a vocalist had begun. An old friend of Dimitris, Michael Apostolakis, finally took this place, with a voice fitted for he band's songs, having a weird brutality, and also high notes which we needed. We started, rehearsing the songs from our Demo, with some changes, first in Nick's room, until a drummer showed up and we entered the studio. The drummer was Tolis Makrantonakis, who had a past in some known bands in Thesaloniki, and was skilful enough to play the up beat tracks.

The band remained without a bass player until opportunities for live shows appeared and bassist Kostas Liapis joined the group. The band gave some live shows for a couple of months, until it was realised that there was enough material to start the recordings for a promo CD, which eventually turned out to be a full debut album.

At that time Kostas leaves the band as his musical orientation was totally different and he wasn't satisfied. The band wished him the best and he parted in a most friendly atmosphere. In the summer of 2003 the band entered Power Studios, under the guidance and support of George Stratakis (Rust), and began recordings.

2 months later and a while after the drum recordings were over, Tolis leaves the band. This was a rather difficult time as all the financial burdens were placed upon 4 people. Soon after, also Petros leaves the band, due to musical differences and the recordings stop in order to organize the financial part.

In October of 2003 the recordings started again until February of 2004, when Dimitris left for studies in Italy. Fortunately the band had all the time for Nick to record all bass, rhythm, acoustic and lead guitars and Dimitris to complete keyboards recordings. During the 6 months that Dimitris was away, some of the vocals were recorded but there was no activity due to lack of free time. In the summer of 2004, Dimitris got back and all the vocals were finished until September when the band began mixing the material.

By the time everything was almost finished it was discovered that another band has copyrighted the name Shadow Play and the band name changed to X-Piral.

That was when Giannis Georgopoulos of Burning Star Records contacted the band and after discussion of 2 weeks, it ended up with a deal and a contract.

In February 2005 Poison Eyes was finally out in the shops. Reviews began emerging, some good, some bad, but in general X-Piral had made a good entrance to the music scene.

The music of X-Piral was a combination of 80's Heavy metal with 00's European Power Metal, also featuring some female vocals, which sounds interesting enough.

So with new strength and a label to help, X-Piral found new members, Thanos Tzanetopoulos (Inactive Messiah) on guitars, Makis Petritsis (Wheelrunner) on bass guitar, and Fragisos Samoilis on Drums. All of them are dedicated musicians and metalheads, with their own influences, working hard to build the new sound of X-Piral.

Now X-Piral have almost finished 12 new tracks to be included in the 2nd album, and still composing more. The musical direction is more complicated as 6 musicians with entirely different influences formed these tracks. One can hear Power Metal, Thrash, Rock, Classic Heavy metal, influences from Finnish scene, Scandinavian, American and all this combined with new sound in the instruments. Vocals are not using so much their high notes, which is the most overused capability of singers, but concentrate in low and middle notes, making it more solid.

Ben Hutchinson is a professional footballer who currently plays for Middlesbrough FC. He was signed from Northern Counties League team Arnold Town in february 2006. he was spotted by a middlesbrough scout while he was playing for Arnold Town against Dunston Federation FC in the FA youth cup, in this game he scored 5 goals in a 6-1 win for arnold town. After impressing whilst on trial with middlesbrough during february 2006, he was signed from Arnold Town and he turned professional. Ben spent the rest of the 2005-2006 season playing in the reserve and youth team. durning the 2006-2007 season ben spent a month on loan at northern leauge team Billingham Synthonia. During september 2007 Ben scored three goals in two games for Middlesbrough reserves. this lead to him being selected in the middlesbrough squad to play Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Leauge Cup on september 26 2007, Ben was given the squad number 36 which use to belong to former middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka.

"The Dome Patrol" is the collective nickname of the New Orleans Saints' linebacker corps from 1986 to 1992. The quartet included Pat Swilling and Rickey Jackson as outside linebackers, with Sam Mills and Vaughan Johnson lining up inside in a 3-4 defensive scheme. Thomas Daniel "Danny" Efland, III (born October 4, 1988) is an up and coming American race car driver. He was born in Irmo, South Carolina where he currently lives while taking undergraduate engineering courses and pursuing a professional race car driver career. He began racing World Karting Associating (WKA) go karts at age five. During his WKA tenure, he won five National WKA Championships as well as the Holley Future Stars College Scholarship. At age twelve, he moved on to Pro-Modified Mustangs at Florence Motor Speedway(FMS). By thirteen, he won the Track Championship and Rookie of the Year at FMS. Unfamiliar Occurrence is a Southern California underground independent experimental music band founded in 2003 by author, singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer Sam Oak. Sam Oak is fully responsible for the artistic direction and content of Unfamiliar Occurrence as well as its recording production and sound engineering. A number of other musicians are sometimes assembled to play a variety of live shows extending from acoustic to fully electric ensembles. Sam Oak writes fairly uncomplicated songs composed of 1-4 chords and sometimes with no changes in the structure or form of the melody. Barrowing from various genres of electronic music, trip-hop, and hip-hop, Sam Oak layers FX on top of simple chord progressions which give the music variety and dynamics. Yet, his music does not sound minimalistic and manages to retain a rock and roll edge without sounding like electronic music, coining the term “glitch-rock.” The beats are produced as Sam Oak records himself on a Jazz/Hip-Hop hybrid drum set. The drums are then fed into various synthesizers, Midi-systems, looping stations, and computers to modernize the drum sound without loosing their organic quality. He records bass lines with an active electronics Standard Fender Jazz Bass and mixes them into the song without modifying them. He then records the guitar tracks using a Telecaster Guitar (painted and signed by renowned artist Aaron Kraten) using either clean or fuzz (using a DS-1 Boss Distortion Pedal) settings. Sam Oak produces the FX using the art of Circuit Bending, synthesizers, and ambient recordings. He then mixes the vocals live in a separate layer. During the live shows, he uses an iPod Nano which is connected to a mixing and looping station. The iPod has the drums and bass lines that he has produced. He then uses foot pedal FX and looping stations to create sound effects while playing the guitar and singing. All of these components have to be played in sync with the right volume mixing levels which is an art in and of itself. He calls his live performance “the Nano Seed Pod Project.” All of his equipment for live shows fit into two small briefcases and a guitar bag, giving it a compact ultra-modern utility while bringing the cutting edge of computer production into the world of live music for solo artists. He does not use a separate amplifier if there is PA system due the natural compression and mix of the single output source that comes out of his mixer. He also uses headphones as a monitor while playing live.

In November 2001, soon after the finale of the show, Matheny made her professional wrestling debut in New England's World Wrestling Alliance soon hitting the independent wrestling circuit across the U.S.

During the next year, Matheny appeared in numerous independent promotions defeating Frost in an intergender match at Alaska Superslam II in Anchorage on February 17, teaming with Rory Fox to defeat Gage Octane and Vixen in a mixed tag team match for New Era Wrestling on April 6 and faced April Hunter at a Universal Wrestling Federation event in Oxford, Pennsylvania on April 19, 2006; this was one of two matches during which Hunter made her professional debut.

After making an appearance in Liberty All-Star Wrestling defeating Danny Rose & Allison Danger in a mixed tag team match on April 20, Matheny began competing for the Nova Scotia-based Mainstream Wrestling defeating Kyle Kruze in a series of intergender matches and, teaming with Lincoln Steen, defeated Flexx Falcone & Morgan Storm in mixed tag team matches during late April. ^[3] She would twice defeat Morgan Storm in subsequent "Ladies" matches on April 28-29, 2002. ^[4]
