  • Alternative proposal: I would not be opposed to deleting it, because arguably it is indeed an anarchonistic category, but I would warn against the precedent that might set. We've got lots of categories of X-ian monarchs, e.g. Category:Italian monarchs, with lots of fun subcategories such as Category:Etruscan kings. You can argue that "Italy" didn't exist until 1861 (just like "Belarus" didn't exist until 1991) and so the Etruscan kings need to be removed, but that would wreck havoc to the entire category and its subcategories. And that's just one example. I'd hate to imagine what would happen to Category:German monarchs and its subcats if we decided that "Germany" didn't exist until 1871. Unless we'd like to challenge all these anachronisms (which I theoretically wholeheartedly agree with!), I would suggest we accept the current internationally recognised state borders for geographical categorisation purposes, and opt for a more pragmantic and limited alternative. Therefore, I would humbly suggest we revisit my proposal #12 at the Rulers CfD:

    That's a good point. On the other hand, the category itself says Monarchs of kingdoms within the boundaries of modern Italy from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD onwards. So it defines geography not according to the Italian Peninsula (including Vatican City and San Marino, but excluding Sicily and Sardinia, and possibly some areas of northern Italy), but to the modern borders of the Italian Republic (since 1946, so it includes islands such as Sicily and Sardinia and not just the mainland; importantly it would exclude the Popes, because Vatican City is outside these borders), and explicitly excludes the Roman era (so it excludes pre-476 monarchs such as the Etruscan kings). We might consider these criteria somewhat arbitrary, but unless we reach an agreement to change it, I think we should apply it.     To my own surprise, in doing some searches on Google Scholar, I'm finding that you appear to be correct. "Italian prince(s)" is widely accepted as a normal phrase, whereas "Belarusian princes" is only mentioned in texts that either claim it to be a nationalistic concept, or very recent texts (last 5 years) that appear to be attempting to posit it as a legitimate scholarly concept. This effectively undermines support for my alternative proposal, as "Italian princes" is widely accepted, but "Belarusian princes" is not. Nominator's rationale: This category is ambiguous. It can be interpreted to apply (a) to desktop platforms (i.e. no Windows or Linux version), or (b) to all platforms (i.e. no iOS/iPadOS version either). Since it's very common for apps to be exclusive to the Mac (no Windows port), while still having an iOS version, this ambiguity is unfortunate. What should we do?   • "Exclusive to Apple platforms" (however named) would move the contents from this, a subcat of Category:Macintosh-only software, to a new parent of that one. I suggest just clarifying in the description that the category is for software that has no desktop implementations other than MacOS, although it may also run on Apple mobile platforms (iOS / iPadOS / WatchOS). @Fayenatic london:: seems like a good idea; my only worry is the risk of IP editors/newbies not bothering to read that new description, and removing the article from this category because it has an iOS version. That would create a maintenance burden, but I suppose it can't be helped, unless someone can come up with a clearer category name. What do you think about "macOS-only desktop software"? @DFlhb: that name is concise. It might still be misinterpreted as meaning desktop-only, excluding Apple multi-platform apps, but rightly understood I think it's an improvement. It would also work for renaming the subcats accordingly. As always, every football club that exists does not automatically get one of these the moment there's one former player for that club with a Wikipedia article -- there would have to be five or six people to file here before a dedicated category was justified, and it doesn't aid navigation to obsessively categorize players for every single team that ever existed.     3. The Prisons were first known to play football sometime in the 1950s. — started by Prisons; were they for prisoners, or wardens, or both?

  1. target Category:Television episodes about wars is already under Category:Television episodes by period of setting, so no need to re-parent.
  2. Do we really expect to have many more individual television episodes set during the Crusades? (No, not many.)
  3. Looking at the tree Category:Television episodes by period of setting, there are an awful lot of onesy twosy categories. We can discourage this, while sustaining the tree in place.
  4. If and only if we eventually discover that a tree is not needed by a significant number of smaller nominations such as this, then nominate the larger tree.
  5. Large nominations are a terrible idea. They nearly always result in no consensus, so then we have to split them into smaller nominations anyway.

It's also a transient characteristic that can change in the future, with songs being added to Spotify that weren't there before or being pulled from Spotify for one reason or another, making it effectively unmaintainable even if there were a vaild argument in favour of it. Yes there are many parts of wikipedia that are transient.
Streaming is now the primary way that people listen to music, and Spotify is the biggest audio streaming platform.
If a song is considered important enough to merit its own page on wikipedia, you might expect readers will want to go and listen to the song to check it out.
