Various non-free screenshots of starships which appeared in the TV series

WP:NFCC#8. I don't think the way these files are being used is an exception to that and don't feel their non-free use is justified. It appears that at one time some of these files may have actually been used in stand-alone articles about the particular ship, but were merged into the list article over time, and the non-free use rationale originally provided is no longer really valid for the new use. Only "File:EAS Agamemnon.jpg" is till being used in EAS Agamemnon. At least at first glance that non-free use appears to be appropriate, so I suggest keep for that stand-alone article about the ship itself but remove from the list article. The merging of the stand-alone article, however, is being proposed and if implemented the file's non-free use justification would no longer be valid in my opinion. As for the other eight files, I suggest delete unless the consensus is that their non-free use in the list article is considered NFCCP compliant. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:04, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply

I don't have a Facebook account and can't verify the PD claim, but I can verify that "It is available for public viewing on the facebook profile of concerned person." is not usually a valid PD claim. AntiCompositeNumber (Leave a message) 02:25, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete unless it can be clearly established that this photo is in the public domain or has been released under a free license compatible to WP:L. Keep as uploader. I believe that fair use rationale is justified in this case for Franz Kurowski, as it significantly enhances the reader's understanding of the topic of "Landser-pulp" literature that the subject of the article produced. The subject has fashioned himself as a "historian", but it's much clearer from the image that this piece is strictly militaria literature aimed at those interested in details of uniforms, insignia, etc. K.e.coffman (talk) 03:18, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per the reasons I gave at
WP:Derivative work even if the images he used are PD. Showing this particular images does not prove that Kurowski is not a "historian"; it simply shows that he used some WWII photos and other imagery in this book, and the reader certainly does not need to see a non-free image of the inner page of a book to understand such a thing. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:29, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply

Definitely a copyright violation. The uploader has claimed to be the author and has slapped a CC-BY-3.0 license on the image, but this images seems to be a screenshot, taken from an old version of http://www.laplink.com/index.php/individuals/pcmover-for-windows. Uploading user has an apparently incomplete understanding of what copyright is and how fair use works. They obviously did not take this photograph as it is a school picture and the subject graduated in 1964. They therefore cannot release the rights as claimed and as this person is apparently still living fair use does not apply either.

I think it is fairly obvious that this is not the uploader's own work and they did not have authority to release the rights, so i it were transferred to commons it would probably be deleted. That is not desirable as this person is deceased. Without knowing the source of the image I'm not sure what

Uploader has a history of copyright violations, and it seems unlikely they really were the creator of this obviously old image. As the subject is still alive and apparently active in politics it seems that it is entirely possible that an actual free image could be obtained

Obviously a professionally taken photograph in front of a backdrop. No evidence of permission, no indication who this even is, not is use anywhere on Wikipedia.

The image is probably PD-USGov, but I can't find it anywhere online to verify. The image was previously used in Barney B. Rasor, which was deleted as non-notable at AfD back in 2009. Therefore, this low-quality file isn't useful on the English Wikipedia. Thanks. Wasn't sure what the appropriate tag was. The colorbar is way off. Open ocean surface density is >= 1020 kg/m^3. I can provide any number of references for this. Here's one from NASA: [1]. This image depicts large regions of the ocean as having a density of <1010 kg/m^3. It is not just a bit off, it's way out of whack. Seems to come from [2], which is also in error.
