@Flix11: You should know better than to file a report like this one, even if it has merit. First, you have presented no evidence. Second, you have requested a CU, even though a check would violate privacy. As a non-clerk, I do not have the ability to decline the CU, but as a patrolling admin, I can tell you that evidence in the form of diffs must be presented, or the report may be closed with no action.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:48, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I concur with Bbb23.
    diffs
to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this.

The user seems to have registered due to an applied blocking in the previous hours. Contributions seems to match and the edits made on the version 1029933124 of Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina have been reverted as resembled the same mistake the IP user used to make and was warned about several times, and eventually led to the temporary block. — MrE (talk) 22:22, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Javito created an account and started editing on June 22. He was indefinitely blocked on July 8 for disruptive editing. On July 11, he was unblocked. 14.202.22.14, which geolocates to Brisbane, Australia, started editing on January 9, 2021. Their editing was particularly heavy in April-June. Their last edit in June was on the 21st, one day before Javito began editing. The IP did not edit again until July 8, shortly after Javito was blocked. In the archive, we have another IP, 130.102.10.24, which belongs to the University of Queensland in Brisbane. They began editing the COVID-19 statistics articles in December 2020. They continued editing at the same time as Javito; they were blocked on July 9, while Javito was blocked, for block evasion. Based on all this, I have indefinitely blocked Javito for abusively editing logged out and for block evasion. Closing.--Bbb23 (talk) 11:59, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Behavior of updating COVID-19 daily numbers only on

WP:BE. Flix11 (talk) 10:52, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply

Hi @Flix11: the source I used came from CNBC Indonesia, with data matching The Ministry of Health yesterday. Apologies as I forgot to include an edit summary on my edit yesterday. On the other hand, if you look at my list of contributions for Wikipedia, I maintain COVID-19 statistics for several countries on Wikipedia, so your claim that I only update Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is not correct. This sockpuppet investigation was created by me after this IP was warned on several ocassions on the behavior on the mentioned pages such as Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia and Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina. This was later addressed on his talk page as he was not able to read the previously issued warnings. As he was unaware of this information as both an IP and later as Javito1993, he attempted to create new users, being his current user Joplin201017. For my part, we have been able to come to a civil dialogue in my talk page, but the reason why I reported him in the first place was due to him creating new users to avoid blocking. — MrE (talk) 23:54, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MrE: As you have mentioned we have reached a civil dialogue on the best way to agree on mutual editing without compromising the reliability of the Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina page. However, here you’re pursuing the block of my user page as bad faith, clearly with the intention of preventing other legally confirmed Wikipedia users from editing pages you commonly edit. Joplin201017 (talk) 00:21, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I only explained the reason why I initiated this request in this first place. As I specified, the main reason I reported you was due to
WP:EVASION (as a result of disruptive edits and the following block; which all of it was as a result of, I believe, a misunderstanding). Whatever the clerk/administrator decide upon the fate of your account and what other users decide to report, I'm not involved in that. — MrE (talk) 00:48, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply
]
You just described that your main reason for reporting Javito1993 was based on the grounds of disruptive editing, not sockpuppeting behaviour, which eventually he was found guilty of in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Javito1993/Archive. Now, you are attempting to report on my user page on sockpuppeting behaviour grounds, when you have actually discredited my editing several times as "incorrect" meaning disruptive as seen numerous times in my talk page [[1]] (see Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina). Clearly you are looking for a block to my page to prevent other users from editing Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina as you feel entitled to the page. Joplin201017 (talk) 02:20, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't report your user, I only reported Javito1993 as a sockpuppet of the previously mentioned IP. That's when it was created in the first place. Flix11 was the one that brought your user to this, I think. I'm not entitled to any page at all, I'm not looking to block anyone, and I know that you are contributing in good faith, but you haven't seem to pay attention to my comments on your talk page lately, so we should follow that discussion there. — MrE (talk) 00:45, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GeneralNotability: as you can see what occurred to Flix11 I feel that with every single of my edits in certain Wikipedia pages like in Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia I have been under immense scrutiny and criticism by some Wikipedia users who feel entitled to these Wikipedia pages and believe no other users have the right to make an edit to them. I provided references, I did what these Wikipedia users asked me to do whenever I was editing the page but still this would not be enough for these users like Flix11 and considered my editing as “disruptive”. I feel I’ve been the target of prosecution by certain users who do not agree with Wikipedia being open to everyone (as long as there is compliance with their rigorous standards of referencing and sourced based information). I make a continuous effort to update information on Wikipedia based on credible sources but I still believe there is entitlement from some users pushing newly created users like mine to leave Wikipedia to avoid this intense prosecution. Joplin201017 (talk) 13:53, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Joplin said he is from Brisbane, consistent with IP addresses reported in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Javito1993/Archive which was used alongside the Javito. Flix11 (talk) 09:33, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Both the accounts have edited similar articles, all related to the COVID-19 pandemic articles. They also have a special affinity for the Statistics sections of these articles or separate Statistics articles of countries (if they exist). Both have had same issues with other editors, i.e, adding un-sourced data/information which upon asking, they claim is from the official websites linked.•Shawnqual• 📚 • 💭 11:45, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Shawnqual: My edits are based on official reports or dashboards from government websites in relation to monitoring of daily COVID-19 pandemic data. Although there was a consensus early on in the pandemic on how to report daily statistical data for all countries in their designated Wikipedia websites, by July mid 2020 most editors maintaining the statistics of the pandemic in most countries stopped updating in the daily charts, resulting in multiple comments from other editors requesting update of these pages (see, as an example, the top comment from the COVID-19 pandemic in Monaco page). Fortunately, their timelines were still being maintained by few editors and that’s mainly where I obtain the numbers to update daily statistics for most countries, an effort that has resulted from many hours on excel to derive those numbers. The pandemic is continually changing and I believe daily updating is necessary to reflect these changes in Wikipedia so it can deliver up to date information that is sourced and reliable. Thank you Joplin201017 (talk) 02:08, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The new account has a similar interest in the COVID-19 pandemic to the sockmaster. The account has found Template:COVID-19 pandemic in Russia/Cumulative and daily charts and made edits thereto (1 2). This page was made by a confessed sock of Javito1993, Joplin201017 and has been almost exclusively edited by other socks of Javito, such as 24Bnd, Zoey2003, and MelaniePos.

The sockpuppet has also been warned for unconstructive editing on COVID-19 pandemic in Latvia in which they broke the formatting of charts, showing that the sockpuppet shares a similar niche interest within COVID-19 that goes beyond a single page. In fact, a perusal of the editor's contributions appears to show an exclusive interest in COVID-19 and a particular focus on COVID-19 statistics.

I've semi-protected a slew of COVID-related pages (basically, any page edited by more than one of the socks in this case). I suspect we'll really need ECP, but it looks like User:Joeytje50/JWB doesn't know how to do ECP. As far as sleepers go, I started down that road, but there's a crap-ton of account that looks like they might plausibly be sleepers, so that didn't seem productive. • CheckUser requested - I've blocked and tagged the latest accounts. I've also requested CU to see if there are any IP ranges that can be blocked to prevent the creation of so many accounts. My guess is no, or it would have been done before now, but it really is an onslaught. Editing Covid statistic pages, same pages as previous socks, doing same edits - adding to stat tables. Started actively editing after last SPI account block. But the account was created earlier tough. Possible sleepers were mentioned at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Javito1993/Archive#26_October_2021_3, so this may be one of those?

This account is also editing other pages, but their primary editing seems to be the statistic pages. Not sure if this is to throw off investigation or if they are just editing.

The edits are now from mobile, so may be device changed?

In any case, asking for CU this time. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 16:10, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New account with uncreative name created after previous-to-last sock block. Making pointless edits to Port of Barcelona, presumably to rack up the autoconfirmed status. Port/coastal topic of random countries was also seen in previous sock [12][13] as a broad interest. Only one edit to Covid stat page at COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands, but the page was edited by many of the previous socks and the edit undoes the exact reverted sock content. The edit to Zara (retailer) doesn't say much, but it follows the same StxQ pattern of adding a random driveby unsourced sentence, e.g. [14][15] etc. High speculation: it looks like Nov 19 edits were not mobile, but whatever means they use to circumvent IP/account creation ban; and then Nov 21 is their usual mobile device.

Asking CU since this account was not (at least publicly among probably gajillion sleepers) mentioned during last CU check, so wondering how it slipped by or whether this is a huge coincidence. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 09:51, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
