A 17th century map of Iceland digitized by the Centre for Research Collections and uploaded to flickr was added to Wikimedia Commons during a Women in Medicine Editathon in February 2016. This map was subsequently added to the German and English Wikipedia pages for Iceland and as a result of interest generated by the Euro 2016 football championship the map has now been viewed over 10 million times. The story of the Iceland map was picked up by Creative Commons who included it as a Spotlight Feature in the influential 2016 State of the Commons Report.

Strategic Goal 1

Increase the quality and quantity of coverage of subjects that are currently underrepresented on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, with a particular focus on cultural content.

Outcomes

• Monthly Wiki meetup for Women in Red held on 29 September 2017 - 4 new articles created and 2 improved.
• Ada Lovelace Day held on 10 October - 16 attendees at the editathon, 13 articles created and 2 improved about notable women in STEM including ensuring all 19 signatories to the 1904 petition to the Chemical Society were represented. The event also had 41 signups to the talks and fun tech activities in the morning and 63 signups to the evening film screening of 'A Chemical Balance' & panel discussion with Professor Polly Arnold, Professor Jane Norman and Dr. Carole Morrison. Storify of the day.
• Planning for the Fruitmarket Gallery editathon on Scottish Contemporary Artists continued with a meeting on 20 September 2017.
• Planning continued for the release of theses data to Wikidata from the Edinburgh Research Archive with a meeting on 21 September 2017. Along with further discussions on a 'Wiki loves Libraries' event with SLIC and SDLC invitees.
• Met with Lucas Agustin Reynoso, new student at the university and a new recruit to Wikimedia UK from Wikimedia Argentina, and Susan Ross, Gaelic Wikipedian in Residence at the National Library of Scotland on 22nd September 2017.
• 2,100 images uploaded to Wikimedia Commons for Scotland's part in Wiki Loves Monuments 2017. 1,351 of which came from staff at the University of Edinburgh's Information Services. Session booked in on 23rd November to add the images to relevant pages on Wikipedia.

• Confirmed participation at the When Education Becomes Possible event on 25 October 2017.
• Advocated for Wikimedia work as part of UC Louvain's strategy for open education.
• Supported Sara Thomas at the first SLIC residency editathon and arranged for follow-up event at the Community Heritage Conference 2017 to further build on this advocacy work in this sector.
• Accepted invitation to speak at Queen's University Belfast in March 2018.
• Confirmed dates for an editathon at Teeside University in April 2018.
• Melissa Highton spoke about the Edinburgh Seven and Changing The Way Stories Are Told'' with Wikipedia at the Physiological Society event on 13th October 2017.

Hidden Gems Editathon	6 October 2017	Edinburgh Central Library Organiser:Sara Thomas, Wikimedian in Residence at the Scottish Libraries & Information Council (SLIC)	10 approx.	The first event of the new Scottish Libraries and Information Council residency to improve the on-wiki coverage of Scotland's history, heritage and archaeology and to introduce history, heritage, archaeology and library/information professionals to learn more about Wikipedia/media and its usefulness for their sector. Attended to lend support and created a new article on the Govan Stones; winner of the Hidden Gems competition.

Strategic Goal 3

To support the use of the Wikimedia projects as important tools for education and learning in the UK.

Outcomes

• Translation Studies MSc course started on 22 September 2017 - 21 students trained to translate 2000 words from one high quality article into a different language Wikipedia. Due to finish at the end of the semester.
• Reproductive Biology Hons. course completed on 27 September - 51 students trained to work in groups to create articles missing from the field of Reproductive Biomedicine (6 new articles and 1 improved with 26.3K words added and 618,000 article views to date). Reflective blog articles to be submitted by the students at the end of the semester.
• World Christianity MSc course began on 27 September 2017 - 8 students trained to create articles missing from the field of World Christianity. Due to finish at the end of the semester.
• Attendee at OER17, Jeffrey Keefer informed me he has turned from a Wikipedia sceptic to a Wikipedia course leader since engaging with Wikimedians at OER17. His first course has just finished and he is keen to share his observations.
• Finally confirmed with Joe Corneli and Benjamin Bach that the Wikidata Project on the Data Science for Design MSc course is to go ahead this semester. The Digital Sociology MSc workshop on 23rd November is similarly to go ahead and am liaising with Tanja Romankiewicz, lecturer in archaeology, about an assignment. Tanja was on the PgCAP course in 2016 that I took part in so there is a further impact to the residency.

• Awaiting word back from Stephen Kaye on the Mastercard Scholarship Foundation to follow up on conversations in Spring 2017 about holding an African Alumni & Swahili editathon in December 2017.

• Met with Muireann Crowley, PhD student, 8 September 2017 to help facilitate an AHRC-funded 'Lost Literary Edinburgh' editathon on 24 November 2017. Anne-Marie Scott and Sara Thomas will lead this event.
• Confirmed with Felix Stein at Social Anthropology about a Wikipedia editing assignment for 2017/2018 - postponed due to Felix working in Haiti at the moment.
• Wikipedia workshop to take place in October 2017 on the Digital Sociology course with a view to further work in Spring 2018.
• Discussed with Sophie Nicholls at Teeside University about doing a 'Regeneration' editathon and Train the Trainer events down there - dates in Spring 2018 now finalised as April 28th 2017.
• In email contact with Tanja Romankiewicz at the School of Archaeology about an archaeology-themed editing event to mark Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017 in conjunction with Sara Thomas's work at Dig It! and SLIC.
• Collaborating with Wikisource volunteer, Sam Wilson, following Wikimania to produce materials to simplify process of working with Wikisource: the free digital library (pdf handouts, video tutorials etc.)
• Exploring how a Wiki MOOC could be implemented which builds on the work of Wikimedia France.
• Continuing to support colleagues at the University of Edinburgh's Digital Skills team to run their own Wikipedia training workshops.
• Liaising with Leila Zia and Bob West to make improvements to the Gapfinder tool for the 3rd iteration of the Translation Studies MSc.
• Showcase 'Wiki Loves Libraries' event for SDLC and SLIC representatives still mooted - liaising with Gavin Willshaw, Digital Curator on date and format.
