George Charles Champion
George Charles Champion (29 April 1851 – 8 August 1927) was an
beetles
.
Biography
George was born in
Elateridae and Dascillidae, the Cassidinae, and the Curculionidae. He described more than 4,000 species
new to science in this work.
He published 426 articles, some in , where he lived.
From 1871, he was a fellow of the
South London Entomological and Natural History Society
.

Legacy
Champion is commemorated in the scientific names of a species of Panamanian snake, Geophis championi Boulenger, 1894,[1] and several species of beetle, including Clinidium championi.[2] (found in Guatemala), Zopherus championi Triplehorn (found in Central and North America), and a species in the genus Phaleria, Phaleria championi Triplehorn and Watrous.
