Kathleen A. FitzGibbon is an American diplomat serving as the United States ambassador to Niger since August 2023.

Early life and education

FitzGibbon earned her Bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College and a Master’s degree from the University of California, Davis.[1]

Career

FitzGibbon is a career member of the

Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia.[1]

US ambassador to Niger

On July 29, 2022, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate FitzGibbon as the next ambassador to Niger.[1] On August 3, 2022, her nomination was sent to the United States Senate.[2] Her nomination was sent back to Biden on January 3, 2023, as no action was taken on it for the rest of the year.[3]

President Biden renominated FitzGibbon the same day. Hearings on her nomination were held before

2023 Nigerien crisis.[6]
