Lemke's hutia (Rhizoplagiodontia lemkei) is an
endemic to Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti). Its natural habitat was subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is thought to have gone extinct after European colonization of the islands.[2]
