Rute is a populated area, a socken (not to be confused with parish), on the Swedish island of Gotland.[3] It comprises the same area as the administrative Rute District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]

Geography

Rute is situated on the northeast coast of Gotland.

Lake Fardume (Fardume träsk), at 3.5 km2 (1.4 sq mi) it is the third largest lake on Gotland after Lake Bästeträsk and Lake Tingstäde.[6] The medieval Rute Church is located in Rute.[7]

As of 2019[update], Rute Church belongs to Bunge-Rute-Fleringe

pastorat, along with the churches in Bunge and Fleringe.[8][9]
